Alliance-Independent, Lincoln, Ne
braska: The first joint discussion between
Meiklejohn and Poynter took place this
morning at the Ponca fair grounds.
David slow Goliah, Corbett whipped
Sullivan, but Poynter skinned Meikle

Caesar, "veni, vidi, vici,'' (I came, I
saw, I -conquered.) Poynter will
represent this district in congress.

Crounse Called Down.
Beatrice, Sept. 16.
Editor of tho Alliance-Independent
Lincoln, Neb.
Dear Sir: In leading the Daily Ne
braska State Journal of this date, I sec
that Lorenzo Crounso made a speech at
Clay Center, Neb., yesterday in which
ho usd the following language: "Tho
second speaker introduced was Lorenzo
Crounse, who was greeted with cheers.
He responded briefly, speaking first of
tho prosperity of our own slate, and
the magnificent exhibits of Clay county,
lie was g'ad that for a quarter of a
century his life had been spent in this
stato. Speaking of the advancement of
the stato and nation he sai l: 'Repub
licanism goes hand in hand
with prosperity.' An object lesson in
the form of fifty bills of defunct banks,
of the wildcat system, pasted on a
piece of muslin, was given and created
applause. That,' said fce, 'is the sys
tem our alliance friends want to back
to.' "
If this report is true as to what he
said, by comparing it with the follow
ing extract of the platform adopted at
Otmha, July 4, 1892, by the ieople'8
party, or "our alliance Jriends," as he
calls them, it will show what an infer
nal Liar, he, the said Lorenzo Crouose,
candidate of the republican party for
governor, w, and if he makjj such
willful mis-statements in one tbing how
can any other statements he makes be
relied upon.
The following is part of our demands
in the platform above referred to con
cerning the issuance of money:
"We demand a national currency
safo, sound and flexible, issued by the
general government only, a full legal
tender for all debts, public and private,
and that, without the use of Banking
Corporations."
One Who Desires Truth
A Costly Wardrobe.
A costly wardrobe is owned by one
of the Chinese ministers, whose mag
nificent and varied toilets have driven
the society bodies wild with envy. The
celestial dignitary never appears at
public entertainments twice in the
same costume, and his silk and satif
garments are valued at 30,000.
The prospects for the Lincoln Normal
University grow brighter every hour.
The electric street car, which now runs
to the campus, brings students by the
score. Profs. Saylor, Shelton, Lewis
and other members of the faculty are
busy classifying students, and classes
were organized this morning, with an
enrollment which surprises every one
interested in the institution. Students
are more than delighted with the hand
some new building and elegant furniture
Work has begun in carntst and every
one is interested in the f utut e of this
great institution.
