Tho Marriage of IUchard Gibson and
Anno Shepherd.
Little Gibson was at the christening
and 8aw tho small Anne decked out in
it re at splendor: and although he was
still rather young to think of matri
mony, he fell in love with iior then
and there. His affection was returned,
and in due course the king and queen
gave their consent to the marriage of
the two dwarfs.
Great preparations were made
for this weeding, wh'.ch wa3 celebra
ted in the chapel of the Palace of St
James; ana everybody who was any
body at all was biddcri to the ceremony.
Henrietta Maria, who. in moro senses
than one, was tho reigning beauty of
tho British court, took great interest
in the festivities and arrayed herself
in all her splendor and loveliness to
bestow her blessing on the little pair.
The little bride looked charming in
ahite satin dress with a very long
train,' 'and the tiny groom wore a
white satin waistcoat with trimmings
of satin. His hose and breeches were
of white silk, and diamond buckles
sparkled in his " tiny shoes. The
dwarfs were a dainty pair, and created
a sensation as they stood before the
clergyman exchanging their vows.
King Charles, very handsome.-, very
graceful,, and looking every inch a
king, gavo away the bride. St

A few years ago I had a quiet
milch cow Rose." which was fond of
Thoma.s the stableman, and also
showed an aversion to dogs. Ono
morning I had just begun to dress,
when I heard my puppy barking in
the cow-shed. The next minute I
heard a roar of unmistakable fear
and anguish a human roar. I
dashod down stairs, and at the same
moment arrived my son. pitchfork In
hand.
There lay 1 nomas on his race In a
dry gutter by tho side of the road to
the cowhouse, and tho cow butt'ng
angrily at him. Wo drove off the
cow, and poor i nomas scuuieu across
the road, slipped through a wiro
fence, stood up and drew breath.
Why. Thomas." said I, "what's
the rrfutter with Rose?"
Well sir." said Thomas, i heard
the pup bark and untied him. and I
was just coming out of the cowhouse
with the pup in my arms when Hose
came round the corner, bho knocked
me down and would have killed me."
Thomas had indood bad a narrow
escape; nis trousers were ripped up
from end to end. and red marks all
along his legs showed where Rose's
horns had grazed along them.
Woll," said I. youd better not
milk her this morning, since she's in
such a fury."
Oh! I'll milk her right enough,
sin hy and bye; just give' her a little
time to settle down. " said Thomas.
It's only jealousy of that 'ere pup,
sir. She couldn t abide seeing me
a-fondling of It." -
In about' twenty minutes Thomas
called me down to see the milk. The
cow had stood quiet enough to be
milked. But the milk was deeply
tinged with blood, and In half an
hour a copious red precipitate had
settled to tho bottom of the paiL Till
then I had doubled the jealousy
Iheory. After that 1 believed.
