They Ratified.
North Platte, Aug. 9, 1S92.
Editor Alliance Independent:
There was a grand ratification meet
ing at North Platte last Saturday after
noon and evening. At the afternoon
meeting the court room was well filled.
Hon. C. D. Shrader spoke for a short
time. Hon. J. W. Edgerton followed
in one of the most powerful speeches,
to which it has ever been our lot to
lot to listen.
In the evening Prof. M. V. Rork of
Crejon, gave his famous black board
lecture to a crowded bouse.
Independents here are all enthusias
tic over the nomination of Van Wyck.
Many republicans say they will vote
for him. R.

Platte Center. Neb-, Aug. 0.
A people's party club was organized
here this evening with 28 charter
member, notwithstanding it wa3 a
rainy night. The club is named "The
Platte Center People's Party Club,"
with the following officers:
President, Fred Jewell.
Vice - President, Hon. William
Schelp.
Treasurer, H. Mahoney.
Executive Committee, J. S. Freeman,
C. C. Carr'g, Fred Jewell.
One of the literary features of the
club will be to challenge republicans
and democrats to meet us on the issues
of the day.
Meetings will be held the first and
third Saturday evenings of every
month.
George W. Brown,
, Secretary.
A Woman's Appeal.
The great conventions are past. The
campaign is upon us, and as there have
been nominated strong men and good
m-in as leaders, so there needs to be
men of principle to cast votes for tho
people's cause. . .
Now right away after the convention
we may not have our differences of
opinion settled, but let u? cast every
thought asiJe that is liablo to bring
discord, and let us put our shoulder to
the wiscel and push with a mighty
effort for the enemy is upon us.
Let not a man, woman or child say
"we can do nothing," but let tho man
say "I will cast my vote for the people,
Let the women say "I can do something
for the campaign fund." Let the boys
and girls shout "hurrah for tho peo
ple's party;" and on the 8th day of next
November "we shall como lejoicing
bringing in the sheaves."
I can see very plainly '.hat there is an
el ;ment that is ready to ruin if they
can't rule. Perhaps the man of
their choice is not nominated. What
if he is not? The choice of the majori
ty shall be my choice. The man of my
ctioic was not nominated for governor,
but that did not hinder me from going
to work right there in the convention
and doing all I could do to help on the
good cause. I am in the fiel 1 this
campaign to stay, and to work by all
fair means to help elect the people's
ticket, and to raise mo'iey for cam
paign funds. Voters of Nebraska, don't
sin away your day of graco. If the
nom'nees on the independent ticket
don't fully please you, . vote for them.
Remembjr every voter in the ranks
has a place he calls homo or expects to
have, and as he is of the common
people, vote for the common people
Remember it was tho common people
who heard Christ glaily. Remember
you have all ccrae from either the
democratic or republican ranks and
what wou'd it profit you to turn back'?
He who occo confesses that lie has
changed his views, and turns back,
dot-s it for the profit there is in it at
this present time, but at the lat it
biteth like a serpent and strngeth
like an adder.
Don't spend your time talking to the
democrats or republicans, but spend
your time thinking what you can do to
help on the cause of justice.
You may think I have no light to
advise in this way. as I have no right
to cast a vote, but I tell you I have
great issues at stake as the force of
circumstances has brought in all. on a
common level. Let us all work to
gether and great good will be accora
pJished. Independent men, lay all prejudice
aside. "Be wise as serpents and harm
less as doves." Cast your vote for your
sslves, your families and friends, and
not for corporations.
Yours for Reform,
Mrs J. M. Sanford.
