Ed Sweeney, the Tanks' elon
gated catcher, can handle all kinds of
pitching.
It is doubtful if there is another
catcher in the league who could do
much with McConnell, New York's

be one of the hardest pitchers in the
majors to catch. Sweeney can get
his glove behind wide ones that
would get by the ordinary backstop.

a good seven feet for a high one.
Moreover, Sweeney is a willing
worker. He is always ready to

Cobb on Sta"ge Again.
Ty Cobb, baseball player extraordi
nary and retired actor, may go upon
the stage again this winter. Hef has
received an offer to become interlocu
tor of George Evans' minstrels. Evans
had Jim Corbett in this position two
years and now hopes to land a dia
mond celebrity for the job. In addi
tion, Evans is angling for the services
of Red Dooln, Mike Donlin and Christy
Mathewson, all of whom have appear
ed in vaudeville. Incidental to his
show, Evans has a baseball team and
he would back that team against all
comers if he could get Cobb, Matty,
Dooln and Donlin to join. -
- Sox Get Lange's Pal.
Miller, the young pitcher signed
for the White Sox, is the former pal of
BUI Langs on the Des Moines team.
The two twirlers won a championship
for the Iowa team tha last time that
city had the honor.

nie" Hearne crossed the dope recently
when he made three home runs In
nine-inning game.
McGraw Praises Cubs.

says John McGraw, paying his compli
ments to the Cubs, and he adds further

Clark Griffith says he never believ
ed it. before, but he now knows that
the Washington climate is a great
