    EIGHT HOURS FOR WOMEN.
California Legislature Enacts Short
er Workday for Women.
The legislature of California has
just passed a stringent eight hour
workday law for women and Gover
nor Johnson has signed it. The pro
visions of the new statute cover all
occupations, save the exception that
the law shall not affect the harvest
ing, curing, canning or drying of anjr
variety of perishable fruit or vege
table. The penalty attached for vio
lation cannot be less than $50 for
each offense, and may reach $200,
with a jail sentence of from five to
thirty days, the latter discretionary
with trial court.
Another bill was approved which
provides for the manufacture of sup
plies by prison labor to be used ex
clusively by the institution conducted
by the state. Safeguards are pro
vided that convict labor will not
come into competition
LABOR'S BEST WEAPON.
Much of the success of the"
union movement in this and
future years will depend upon
the use the labor men make of
their purchasing power. To em
ploy union labor by purchasing
union label goods is the most
effective weapon of organized la
bor. It can change the com
merce and manufactures of the
land. Start right in this respect
and keep up the good work and
the future is ours.
There's the Rub.
"Well," said the optimistic boarder,
"there's one thing about our boarding
house you can eat as much as you
like there."
"Of course; same as ours," replied
the pessimistic one. "You can eat as
much as you like, but there's never
anything you could possibly like."
Catholic Standard and Times.
She Should Be Tied.
"He's a dangerous man for the com
munity." "Does he steal?"
"No, Indeed."
"Does he Intox?"
"No, but he goes round among the
married women telling how much he
helps his wife out with the house
work." Boston Herald.
' The Inevitable.
"You don't resent that successful
candidate's proud and haughty man
ner?" "Nope," rejoined Farmer Corntossel.
"The fact that he's In politics Is all
the guarantee I want that sooner or
later he'll meet with some kind of a
terrible finish." Washington Star.
THE UNIONIST'S DUTY.
Mr. Union Man, what are you
doing with your portion of the
$1,500,000,000 received each year
by the members of labor unions
as wages and expended for the
necessaries of life?
The purchase of union label
goods by each member of all un
ions would work a commercial
revolution. John Mitchell says
that If each member of organ
ized labor would do his duty in
this respect there would not be
an unfair article on the market.
Use your purchasing power.
The "Bradford" Brand
The label of "Bradford" on clothing bears the
same relation to clothing that the "hall mark" of
Britain does to ware made of precious metals. It is
an absolute guarantee of the best there is in the cloth
ing line. It is with especial pride that we annouoce
to the buying public that we have secured the selling
agency in this territory for this remarkably fine brand
of clothing. Nothing better is made for men's wear,
and the prices are such as to appeal to economical
buyers who desire to practice economy while securing
the best in style, fit, durability and fabric.
FROM $20.00 TO $25.00
This price range is limited, to be sure, but it comprehends
the best there is in the ready-to-wear clothing line. These are the
bargain prices that we always offer at the beninning. They will
continue to be the bargain prices. Our system guarantees to our
customers that from the very beginning of a season they get the
bargain prices that will be offered at the fag ends of seasons by
others. We have no "special bargain sales." Every day is bargain
day with us. And our "Bradford Bargains," now offered, are so
remarkable that we desire your attention to them.
Everything That Men Wear
That is a brief resume of what this store handles. And it
is all of the best for the money asked the real price value in
every article. For the staunch union man we have the labeled
goods that will outfit him from head to feet most satisfactorily.
Now is the time to secure the best selections at the "bargain
price" others will offer after the choice has been picked out.
