The institution will be a pri vate bank with a capital stock of IS, 000. The Missouri river at Nebraska City 'continue to rle, and a great deal of damage hae been done. Railroad tracks are inundated, and in bad con dition. The governor,! private secretary, Fred Jewell, has returned from Platte Centre where he made arrangement to rebuild tome building that were burned oa hi farm laat week. The sobool house in the Tillage of Alda was struck by lightning and en tirely destroyed. The structure cost 1,100. There was 11,200 insurance on the building and 1400 on the contents. At Stromsburg several business houses are being built this spring and the town is entirely filled up. A new sun-bonnet factory has been started. Mrs. Hattle Bhidner, the president of the concern, is a very progressive lady. While Oeorge Bymer was working oa a scaffold on a building on Eighth street, Nebraska City, the building gave way, letting him fall over twelve feet One rib was broken and two more fractured, besides other bruUcs, lieutenant-Colonel Colton has de clined to swept the colonelcy of the First Nebraska regiment, and Harry II, Mulford, senior major, was yester day appointed as tbe head of the regi ment. Wallace 0. Taylor, captain of company L; Omaha, was advanced to Junior major. Frederlok Zerbst, an aged Oerman farmer living ten miles northwest of HarrlMon, committed suicide by hang ing. For some time past he has shown signs of insanity and he had been close ' ly watched by his family, but eluded their vigilance and it is thought that he took his own life while in a tempor ary fit, Ssturdar, April St. Frank Hummel, aOordon liveryman, bad an am broken and shoulder dls leeated in a runaway, Company H. Mr. Jasaes Jsrmln of Osceola fell flown the cellar way of her home and broke her right arm in two places. Frank Oerlow, a fanner near Au burn, lost twelve tons of bay by fire, had a wagon ruined and a horse badly Injured by the same fire, and later a wind storm blew bis hay sheds down, crushing another wagon, and moved his large bam partially off its founda tion. Edward Albright, an inmate of the soldiers' heme at Grand Island, who was addicted to somnambulism, fell down stairs the other evening and was Instantly killed, lie was 54, a private in Company O, 83d Ohio, and it stated that when he was mustered out Win. MoKlnley, now president, was his com pany commander. This is the third accident of this nature the past month, The Missouri river at Omaha 1 above the danger line and a large portion of the lowlands is flooded. It is believed that the worst will soon be over. Many poor people were driven out of their home. Just below the Union Faoifle bridge the river is three tulles wide. On the Iowa side of the river near ly all the farmers who were drives out by tbe recent flood have returned to their homes. On the Omaha side nany people have also moved back home bnt there are still a number of houses in East Omaha which are surrounded by the water, Helen, the five-year-old daughter of Mr, and Mrs. W. W, Boott of lleatrloe, was seriously burned on the arm and band by hot coffee, The little one was sitting on the floor playing when a pot of boiling hot coffee was overturned by the servant girl. On her arm, for the full length, the burn was very se vere, and until the arrival of a physi cian caused the child intense pain. In response to an inquiry the war de partment has Informed the adjutant general of Nebraska that General Otis, commanding at Manila, has discretion ary power to discharge wounded men when such jaon have recovered sufli clently to endure the long voyage home. The boys who wish to eome home may apply to Oeneral Otis, who can grant the request if he thinks it best to do so. Weduesds.
