BUSINESS OF THE BURLINGTON.
Figures From the Annual Statement Is
sued Last Week.
The published report of the Burlington
for the year 1890 shows an Increase of
$518,185,136 in the gross earnings over
those of 1895. The increase was due to
greater freight traffic. The total freight
earning for 1890 amounted to f 22.423,
210.77 an increase of 820,964.40 over
theeurnfngs for 1895. The earnings in
the passengor department amounted to
$7,452,301.50 a decrease of $339,002..

Thin paper recently detailed a reporter
to visit west lork, Crawford county,
Indiana, and interview Mrs. Clara M.
Robertson. He made the journeybut
Mrs. Robertson was not at Home.
Whereupon he left a note for her request
lug that she write him the facta asked
for, which in a few day she did, In the
following most grateful manner:

"Dear Bin In response to your note
of inquiry I trust you will not expect me
to write all I feel, for I cannot do so in
an ordinary letter.
"I am now past my nlty-nltn anni
versary, and am in possession of better
health than at any time within thirty
years, f rom my twenty-iourtu year,
when my first child was Dorn, until the
spring of 1894, when 1 bad the good
fortune to begin the use of Pink Pills. I
scaroely knew what it was to be free
from pain, though naturally of a robust
constitution. The hardships of life for a
farmer s wife in those days can hardly
be estimated by women in the same
station now-a-days, for in those days
farm labor was more enormous.
'At the birth of my child my youth
seemed to suddenly fade away, and my
once robust constitution to collapse, but
my husband could not afford hired help,
and though ill-health brought Its train
of miseries, it brought no relaxation
from the burdens which devolve upon a
poor man s wile, railing of the womb,
my first complaint, was soon followed
by dyspepsia, bladder complaint, rheu
mutism and neuralgia till 1 prayed often
for that peace which the world cannot
five. Local doctors gave me 110 relief,

more rising during the night by reason

more than any other symptom of my
enfeebled condition. By the end of six
