Evidence Not Condoelvw and the Theory of Suicide Debatable Witnesses Testify M to Her Horn Surroundings Other Kebnuk News- Bryan's Movement. Wtmore, Neb., July 29. Coroner Miller and Dr. Albright of Beatrice were out yesterday and completed the inquest over the remains of Maude Eodus who several days ago died under mysterious circumstances; The result of the investigation was to the effect that death resulted from the taking of some opiate unknown to them. Many witnesses were examined and the home surroundings of the girl in quired into. A number of witnesses testified that the girl had been heard to say she was afraid of her father, but he was not at home when she died. One witness saw Maud one day when she exhibited bruises on her face which she said her father made and that he had kicked her. Another witness told about a con versation had with Mrs. Eadus as fol lows: "Why don't you let the girl go; she is old enough to care for herself?" to which the reply was: "She couldn't earn her salt, and no body would have her; wo wouldn't if we didn't have to." A teiffic hailstorm devastated a large portion of this part of the state night before last, The day had beeen excessively hot, The thermometer registered a little more than 100 degrees in the shade, but the sky was clear and the air wai atllL There was no indication of a torm till nearly 10 p. m., when flashes of lightning could be seen from the horizon, both east and west. After awhile a prolonged . roar could ba heard like continuous, distant thunder. At 11 o'clock hailstones began falling as large as hen'B eggs, and in a few minutes they had increased to two or three times the size. In fifteen min utes the roar of the storm was simply appalling. The loudest thunder could not be heard above the drafening roar. All windows on the west sides of buildings and most of those on the north side were broken in and rooms filled with bushels of hail from the size of a walnut to nearly four inches in diameter. Shutters were quickly x roken to pieces and roofs pounded to splinters. Shade and fruit trees were nearly denuded of leaves and limbs, larire and small were torn from the trees and lay thickly scattered about the yards. ; BRYAN QUITE SERENE. A Solution of the Popallat Complica tion Predicted, LixcoLir, Neb., July 29. W. J. Bryan expresses the utmost confidence that a solution of the perplexing pondi tions brought about by the aotioa of the Ponulist national convention Fri day and Saturday will be presented and adopted in due time. Further than this he declines to talk in rela tion to the situation. Every inquiry calculated to fathom his plans er pur- noses met with the simple response "I must decline to be interviewed concerning the St Louis convention or its results." "I received." Mr. Bryan said, "an other rabbit's foot It was sent to me ' by a telegraph operator in Montana. That makes the sixth rabbit's foot be sides a treat many four-leaf clovers and a horse shoe. I wrote the donor f the last rabbit's foot that while am not at all superstitious, under the clrcumitanoes I can but feel that every condition and necessity to insure my triumphant election has been se- eurad axoaot the votes. " On his return from the Populist con ventlon Governor Holoomb brought to Lincoln a cage containing two birds of the variety denominated love birds, seat by the Kansas delegation, one iiatueu fcanaaa and the other c brook, -. V HOLCOMB'S FIGURES. The Nebraska Oovernor Believes That Ike State la Sure tor Bryaav Likcolh, Neb., July 29.; Governor Holoomb said to-dT that he believed Mr. Prym w?Bld 2P W Populist nomination, and as Ve nad lately held a lengthy interview with Mr. Bryan the governor's opinion is worthy of weight The muddle over vice presi dent, he said, would be settled by fusion in different States, Sewall and Watson to take their ohances In the electoral college. In Nebraska there would certainly be fusion and the fu sionista would carry the state fle figured that under normal conditions there would bo 900,000 votes la Ne braska this year. He divided these as follows: Kepublloans, &,000; Pop ulists, 75,000; all kinds of Democrats, 85.000; Prohibitionists, 6,000. Of tola vote he believed Bryan would receive all but 5,000 or 0,000 Demooratlo votes, all of the Populist votes and a major ity of the Prohibitionists. He also fUrured that from 10 to IS U per oent of the Republicans would bolt M oKia lay. Ob a recapitulation he believed that Bryan would reeeive 110,000 ol to 100,000. Didn't Know the Town. Lincoln, Neb., July 29. Ernest Fol aom is of the opinion that the local postoffice authorities should inform themselves on the location of a certain city. The other day a letter from a friend in Colorado came to him here. The friend as a joke had addressed it to "Bryanstown," Neb. The postal guides were ransacked for the location of such a town, but no such name could be found anywhere. The letter waa returned to the writer. He enclosed it to Mr. Folsom with a nice little roast oa the obtuseness of the Lincoln dis- 5c tors. .... i finance FACTS WANTED The Mlat Bareaa Bewwaaiag mm Kdaeav ttoaat Instltatloai of Importance. The questions cover every conoeivable phase of the cur rency question and the inquiries are of all shades of political belief. Most of them want information that can be easily furnished, such as the total amount? of the coinage of the last fiscal year, the amount of cold aDd silver in circulation in the United States or the present value of the different coins, but many are 01 a more abstruse nature and would tax the officials to answer them properly. Last week a British Columbia logger sent the cook of bis camp to Douglass, the British Columbia station Just across the H e from Blaine, to get an express package. The Mongolian came to Douglass, and instead of stopping there, wandered over the line to the Great Northern Depot, on this side, where he sat down. A zealous deputy marshal spied him, and after a few questions found out he bad no papers. So he de tained him, and according to law the only thing that could be done was to deport him to China, although McKee came down and explained and tried to have him released to go back and cook. Sunday the train had Just started couth with this Mongolian on board, when some one yelled: "There's an other one!" Sure enougn, mere .came another big, fat, wabbly-looking Chi nese across the line. The train was stopped lnstanter, and he was ques tioned. He was on this side of the line without papers, and the funny part of it was that he was a cook, who had been sent from Westminster to take the other fellow's place as cook in Mc Kee's logging camp, and, mistaking hta location, had wandered too far south. He cried when he knew his predica ment, but law, as interpreted by the of ficers, is stern, as well as surprisingly silly, and he will go back to China along with No. 1. In the meantime McKee has no cook. Whatcom Htev- ellle. . ANTI-BRYAN MEN. The Recess ot the Convention Followed by a Mlddle-of-the-Road Rally. St. Louis. Ma. July 22. After the convention took a recess a middle-of- the-road meeting was announced. There was at once a rush of delegates towards the speaker's stand. Mr. Carter of Georgia acted as chairman. There were immediate calls for "Stump" Ashley, but as he began to speak the band began to play. Angry men shouted, 'rui ous man uemo- cr&tlo band." and "Stop that band.' After awhile the band was hushed, but by this time Congressman Howard had got to the front and began mak ing a speech. He talked long and loud against the Bryan movement. He was followed by "Stump" Ashley, who made another long speech. There were loud calls for Coxey, but no re sponses. Then "Cyclone" Davis made a strong plea for the preservation of the Popu' list party, after which an attempt was made to do some business. Stump Ashley was then elected chairman and a number of secretaries were chosen. It was suggested that one delegate from each State be elected to form a permanent middle of the road committee, but some of the States did not respond. A partial list was finally obtained and this to be the steering committee for the middle of the road men and act for them, Fu ture meetings will be held as may be deemed necessary. YELLOW 8 TONE PAEK Is more and more impressing itself upon the public, as the years go by, as being the great park of the land. The strong feature of it is the fact that it is not a man made park, True enough man has built roads and bridges and ho tels in order that he may see the park, but he has not yet tried his hand at con structing new-fangled geysers, or re adorning or resculpturiug the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. These are as God left them. There, too, the elk, bear, deer and other animals are not en closed in wire fences. They wander free andunfretted whethersoever they will. Man's handiwork is but little seen and the park is the grander forit. Send Chas, S. Fee, Gen. Pass. Agt. Northern Pacific R.R. 6c for Wonderland '90 and read about the park.
