SHREWD AND SAGACIOUS.
The Roman Catholic Church Will Absorb
the World's Laborers by Kspoaslng Their
Cane.
It is said that the pope will shortly
issue an elaborate essay on the sub
ject of socialism which will be ad
dressed to all Christendom. It is as
serted that he will seek therein to
prove from the non-success of the state
socialism advocated by l'rince liis-
marck and Emperor William that
church socialism is alone able to be
stow peace and happiness amonj the
masses, and will also perfect a plat
form of his own. The pope is at pres
ent being advised by leading sociolo
gists of Europe.
If not '"harmless as doves," Roman
Jesuits may at least claim to be "wise
as serpents." If the Roman Catholic
church returns to the pure and primi
tive teachings of the "early fathers"
and advocates the system of sociology
practiced by the early Christian
churches, it will enlist under its ban
ner th:e laboring masses of the com
mon people. And all that it is neces
saryTor the church to do is to return
to us own recorded articles of faith as
enunciated by its teachers and potent-
en.
'Christ and II is apostles and all the
early fathers were ideal socialists and
inculcated and emphasized the doc
trines of socialism as the teaching of
Christianity.
Thus Paul, writing to the Corinthi
ans, said: "For I mean not that other
men be eased and ye burdened; but by
an equality, that now at this time your
abundance may be a supply for their
want, and that their abundance also
may be a supply for your want, that
there may be equality; as it is written:
lie that had gathered much had noth
ing over, and ho that had gathered
little had no lack."
Now, the man who gathers little
may beg, steal, or starve. The primi
tive church and the "early fathers" in
sistently inculcated the principles of
socialism and constantly inveighed
against private ownership of property,
specially of land. I submit a few of
such citations as I have at hand:
St Ambrose: "Nature created com
munity; private property is the off
spring of usurpation."
St Chrysostom: "The rich are rob-
bers. A kind of equality must be ef
fected by making gifts out of their
abundance, liettef all things in com
mon." St Clement: "In strict justice every
thing should belong to all. Iniquity
alone has created private property."
St Jerome: "Opulence is always the
product of theft coin in ittod, if not by
the actual possessor, by his ancestors."
Tertullian, in his apology, says:
"Why, we are even brothers in income,
the very question which almost tears
your fraternity to tatters. So we, who
are one in mind and soul, make no balk
at common property. Everything we
have is common and equal property,
except our wives. Our socialism ends
just where yours begins."
St. Crypian insists that none of the
gifts of God are given to us to be our
private property, or ought to be
claimed to the exclusion of others.
He says the land and its products
ought to be as common to men as are
the sun, clouds, wind, sleep, stars, and
moon; and he calls upon landlords and
crop-lords to use these, as God shows
how, for the common benefit
In these days, hundreds of gifted
ministers of the gospel, entertain the
sentiments voiced by Cardinal Man
ning, thus:
"The land question; means hunger,
thirst, nakedness, notice to quit, labor
spent in vain, the toil of years seized
upon, the breaking up of hoiyses, the
misery, sickness, death of parents,
children, wives, the despair and wild
ness which spring up in the hearts of
the poor, when legal force, like a sharp
harrow, goes over the most sensitive
and vital rights of mankind. All
this is contained in the land ques
tion." If the Protestant church does not
awaken to the significance of this new
move on the part of the pope, it will
lose what little grip it now has upon
the toiling masses.

THERE'S NO HOPE THERE.
The Taat History of the Twin Frauds Proves
Them Hitter Knemle of Silver.
"Silver Knight," of Gunnison, Colo.,
furnishes the following warm com
munication: "Is it good common sense to believe
habitual liars? If your neighbor had
been in the habit of telling you lies on
any particular subject every year for
twenty-two years, how much confi
dence would you have put in his state
ments? The silver democrats and the
Bilver republicans have been telling
the people for just that length of time
that their respective parties were in
favor of the remonetization of silver,
and that they would do all in their
power to accomplish that end.
"During these twenty -two years each
party when in power has used the
patronage of this great government to
aid the money power to destroy silver
and reduce the legal tender money of
the world to gold alone. No adminis
tration act of either party since the
crime of 1873 has been in favor of sil
ver. On the contrary, each party
has vied with each other in trampling
upon the laws of congress to degrade
and banish silver. Neither party has
obeyed the law to use it as money, but
each has declared time and again that
it is a debased currency and that it
would be bad faith to comply with the
statute and pay it out in the discharge
of obligations according to contract
"The game of the gold combination is
plain. The Rothschilds own the two
parties and will spend their money and
use the power of the administration
to keep the voters in one or the other
of their two gold parties. The silver
leaders in both parties act as cow boys
to force the masses either into the
Rothschilds' republican corral or the
Rothschilds' democratic corral, there
to be branded as the property of the
gold combination. Never in the his
tory of man was there such a bare
faced fraud as the pretense that either
lot the Rothschilds parties intends to
restore silver. Vajcto Weekly Uia-

A Better Way Now Discovered. Which
Cure Every form of Files Wirhout
Fain or Inconvenience.
Many people suffer the pain, annoy
ance, aud often serious results from piles,
for years, and after trying the many
lotions, eulves. ointments, aud so-called
cures without cure or relief, give up the
hope of a final cure, rather than submit
to the intense pain and danger to life
which a surgical operation involves.
Happily all this suuering is no longer
necessary, since the discovery of the
Pyramid Pile Cure, a remedy which is ap
proved by the medical profession, as be
ing absolutely sufe, free from any trace
of opiates, narcotic or mineral poisons
and which may be depended upon as a
certain cure (not merely relief) in any
form of Piles, whether itching, blind,
bleeding, or protruding, borne of the
hundreds of cures recently made are little
short of marvelous, as a perusal of the
following will demonstrate.
.Major Dearie of Columbus, Ohio, says:
"T wish to add to the nurabsr of certifi
cates as to the benefits derived from the
Pyramid Pile Cure. I suffered from Piles
for forty years and from Itching Piles for
twenty years, and two boxes of the pyr
amid Tile Cure has effectually cured nie."
Dr. J. AY. Megan, Leonarilville, Kan.,
writes: "I have used a box ot ryraimu
Pile Cure and received more benefit aud
relief than from any remedy I had used
in the past twenty-two years."
James Jemorson, Dubuque, Iowa, says:
I suffered from l'iles for six years; have
just used the Pyramid Pile Cure and am
a well man."
Mrs. M. C. Hinkley, C01 Mississippi St.,
Imliunapolis, Ind., says: "Have been a
sufferer from the pain and annoyance of
Piles for hi teen years, the I'yratmd file
Cure and Pyramid Pills gave me immed
iate relief and in a Bhort time a complete
cure."

Morgan County, Colorado
The amount of land for sale in Morgan
County is limited. The entire irrigated
district comprises only about 125,000
acres, more than half of which is aiready
under cultivation.
Allowing 80 acres to a farm (the usual
size of an irrigated farm and as much.ns
one man can look after properly) there is
room for only 750 more farmers than are
already on the ground. Prompt action
is therefore advisable. The best farms
will go first. As land becomes scarcer
higher prices will prevail. Two years
hence you will not be able to buy an acre
of Morgan County land for twice the
figure it can be had for today.
Morgan County has any number of ad-
vantngesover uineout of every ten farm
ing sections in the United Mates. JNo
crop failures; no droughts; no malaria;
no hot winds; no intense heat; no bitter
cold. The people are iriendly. Ihe
schools, churches and shipping facilities
are all that can be desired. , The system
of irrigation is co-operative and econo
mical. Ihe climate healthful. Ihesoil
rich.
Morgan County's crops beat the world.
Wheat averages nearly 40 bushels to the
acre. Over 100 farmers report this year's
yield as in excess of 40 bushels and fifty
as in excess of 50 bushels. Oats, corn
and potatoes do equally well. Alfalfa is
a staple crop and yields 5 tons to the
acre. Cattle and sheep raising are profit
able. Market gardening and fruit cul
ture receive a great deal of attention.
One man will makethis year f 1, 300 from
three acres of onions. Another 8820
from 60 stands of bees. A third has al
ready been paid $1,520 for the proceeds
of 70 acres of wheat. And so it goes
through the entire list.

THINK BEFORE YOU KICK.
Do Not Talk About "Worthless Agitators''
Until You Do a Little Thinking.
' You are sometimes offended at things
you find in the Coming Nation; you get
mad and write a postal card with
out giving your name or locating your
selfand you think that the editor is
a wild long-haired dangerous "anar
chist" who ought to be in jail with
the gentle and manly Debs. But that
don't help matters a bit, brother.
Don't be a cypher, brother. Go and
talk with some aged, well-informed
and honest man in your neighborhood,
in whose integrity and judgment you
have confidence. He will tell you,
being honest and well informed, that
when we had no millionaires we all
had a living. You, of course, admit
that now when we have many million
aires, many of us are starving. The:
old man will tell you, being honest,
that our present system allows one
man to lay thousands of men under
contribution and to take some
thing fi;om each. He will tell
you that what the one gains
the many lose; that the one grows rich
by making the many poor. He will
tell you that under present conditions
the millionaire has the power, not
only to take from each what he has
already gained, which power has al
ways been exercised by the "great,"
but has a new power peculiar to this
age, and that'is the power of taking
from men their chance of gaining a
livelihood by applying their labor.
He will tell, being an honest man, that
capitalism has always taken from the
laborer that which labor has gained,
but never until the introduction of
labor-saving machinery has it been
possible to take from a man the
chance to apply his labor. He will
tell you, what you ought to try to un
derstand, that we are face to face with
a problem entirely new, which is this:
While tyrants have always robbed the
people of their earnings, they have
never until now taken from them the
opportunity to labor. Coming Nation.
Nervous Prostration
Cured by Dr. Miles' Nervine.
Prolonged derangement of the nervous
system not only affects the brain and men
tal powers, but develops disease in some of
the vital organs. The most dangerous of
these Indirect results Is when the heart is
affected. This was the case of the Rev. N.
F. Surface, Fawn Kiver, Mich., who writes
under date of Feb. 14, 1895:
"Fourteen years ago I had a slight stroke of
paralysis. Overwork brought on nervous
prostration. I was exceedingly nervous and
the exertion of public speaking caused
heart palpitation that threatened my life.
I used two bottles of Dr. Miles' New Heart
Cure for my heart trouble, and two of Dr.
Miles' Restorative Nervine for my nervous
ness and feel better than I ever expected to
feel again. I can speak for hours without
tiring or having my heart flutter as it for
merly did, and I have you to thank that I
am alive today."
