We bare had but two louses eo far this
year in our bail company, both of which
will be adjusted by the time this is read-
There are many who wish they had in
sured with us since they have had a loss,
one man wanted one of our assistant
secretaries to take bis application and
date it back two or three days. This
same man had a chance just as all other
farmers bad to insure at a cost of 10
cents per acre, but as he had aever had
any bail in his neighborhood he did not
feel called upon to throw away 10 cents
per acre; but as soon as a loss occurs all
are ready to admit that it would hare
been wise to bare bad some insurance.
CYCLONE.
So far this year our company has had
but one small loss ($10.00.) We now
have a little orer 1800.000 insured, and
hope every agent will make an effort to I

Ia the fire department it seems to work
rery slowly. We have not yet received
the required $100,000 in applications.
We do not want any money with the
applications, hence there is no risk to
run unless you get your policy and be
fore we send you your policy we will give
you notice to pay your fee and if at that
time you do not want your policy issued
you need not pay for it. Tberejore, you
see there is nothing for you to lose ex
cept a postage stamp.
CONVENTION.
As the convention is here in Lincoln on
the 28 th, inst., I hope to meet many who
are interested in mutual insurance.
I would like to meet and get acquaint

England's New Commander-in-Chief.
London, Auf. 21. In the house of
lords the secretary of state for war,
Marquis of Lansdowne, announced
that Field Marshal Viscount Wolseley
would succeed the duke of Cambridge
as commander-in-chief of the forces on
November 1. The proposed changes
in the powers and duties of the office
are still under consideration.
Eight Chinese to Be Deported.
Buffalo, N. Y., Aug. 21. Deputy
Marshal Kane left here last night for
the Pacific coast in charge of eight
Chinese who are to be deported. Five
of them were brought here from Os
wego, where they were caught and
sentenced.
