July 20, M 8 THE WEALTH MAKERS. DINING DENOU Our Congressmen Boundly Disclaim Put in a Fusion Schema- HAVE HO DI8P08ITI0H TO B088 No Right to Even Suggest Fusion, or Direct the Party's Courts Do Not Know Wbtl the People Went. The Watchman Called Washington, D. C , July 10, 1894. To thi People t Party of Xtbrasta: The National Watchman, a news paper published In thUclty by N. A. Dunning, contained in its issue of June 22nd, an editorial under the caption of "Fusion Conspiracy" in which, among; other thlogs.lt said: "It is evident that a conspiracy for a fusion haw been entered into etween Weaver, Bryan, Kem and McKnlgnan. These are the beneficiaries but di not constitute the entire number. Weaver has moved inn another district in order to make the race, and his paper is filled with laudation of Bran and arguments for fusion." That this statement is entirely false and that there is cot the shadow of an eiouse for Its publication, the people of Nebraska, and especially the Popu. list party, will understand. The Populist delegation in Congrew from Nebraska have studiously refrain ed from doing or saying anything hav log the least appearance of "Botsism,' believing that It is for the party la its state convention, unprejudiced and ua influenced by anything that we ma say or do, to determine what course should be pursued this fall. We have at no time supposed that we bad a right to participate in or suggest fusion, or pre scribe the course to be pursued by the party, And this It made more manifest to you when it is remembered that we bave been removed for so many months from our friends in Nebraska as to be unable to f oi m a correct judgment of the situation there and the course that ought to be adopted. Our opinion, under such circumstances, would be of oo value. ' We look upon Mr. Dunning as far from being a true Populist. His chief desire seems to be to prooure money ef Populist congressmen and others, for the support of his paper and himself, and when he finds a member of coo gress who refuses to respond to his oft repeated requests tor money he lmme' d lately begins to misrepresent him through his paper. About two years ago he told Mr. Kem that it was his purpose to defeat Mr. MoKeighan if he could because the lat ter would not contribute moaey to him, and recently he has expressed his bitter hostility to Mr. Mi Kelghan to different persots, admitting that his chief ground of complaint was a failure upon the part of the former to contribute money. He has also expressed h utility to Mr. Kem bt cause, after making a donation of twenty five dollars, the latter refused to continue contributing money to him After Inducing Mr. Allen to make a donation of fifty.fl ve dollars to his paper, Dunning prefensed that the latter had become a stockholder In the paper and by some means unknown a certificate of stock for one hundred dollars in the National Watchman was placed on Mr. Allen's desk, and then Mr. Dunning made a claim of a balance of forty-five dollars due him on the stock. On dls covering that a stock certificate hnd been Issued to him, Mr. Allen promptly returned the same and refused to be recognized hs a stockholder or as hav ing any interest la the paper whatever, whereupon Mr. Dunning brcame his enemy and U Indirectly responsible for the atttuks made upon Mr. Allen threugh the Nonconformist, published at Indianapolis, Indiana. We are possessed of information which leads us to believe that when Mr. Dunning 1 able to obtain money from Populists, ho gives his services to the K'puhllcane, and by that means tries to obtain money from anyone who will pay him. Information In our po seton satUdes us that Mr. Dunning ha glvtn his Influence and the Influence of his Paper to the Republican party for moDiy and that h Is really and truly an euemy to the cause of the Pop ulist party. The new password has just been re- calved from the National Secretary under Instructions to give It only to the Alliances having paid this quarter's dues (September 30) The National Secretary, . P. Dun can of Columbia, South Carolina.writes: "Our sympathies are with the strikers, and if they would vote like they strike they could and would accomplish some. thing. ."We have got to turn the lawyers out of Congress and fill their places with our own people before we will accom pllsh anything." We should not fight all lawyers, and yet nearly every disgrace and distension in the new party has been caused by tbi.ni. They work to the front, not by ability, but because the working class push them ahead because they admire the gift of gab. A lawyer who has conscience enough not to work to clear the guilty, or punish the Innocent, is all right; but I weuld just as soon trust Judas as one who would do those things. A Lancaster County brother writes, who Is well posted in affairs of the state: "We must rally the Alliances to the work. ; Now is the crisis of our o iuse in the state. Every true man and woman must now rally to the rescue of our cause, Make Rome howl. Wake the Alliances up to their responsibility as men and women and take the reins of polltloal action out of the bands of lawyers and the rings in the towns. Send the note of warning. Ring the bells, and rally the farmers to the danger that the party has encountered by allowing the towns, and lawyers, and shysters to get control of our party. Ually as never before. 8ound It out all along the line, that tbe farmers must arouse themselves to the emergency, or sll Is lost. Thank God we have one farmer in Congress that will not be caught in any of their traps, and that fa O, M. Kem. All honor to such man bo h), if not quite so great a statesman to fall." , Brother A D'Allemand writes: "My bill was $97 20, not including railroad fares, which was to be paid by N. F. A. Actual expenses such as printing, re ports, constitutions, proceedings, stamps, express, freight, etc., (197.20 for tbe year, bo allowance for rent, fuel or light, and I have not even asked my salary Included in tbe first amount, I have been twice sued for printing, which for defending, cost me $10 eaob tlmo. At last I borrowed money to quiet the plaintiff. Hence you see it Is not charity, because you will see it Is due me. January 14, 1803, Allen Root sayi in his letter: .' You state truly that the State Alliance assumed the National Alliance debt to relieve you, etc" All the delegates to the State Alli ance at Hastings were instructed and pledged to use their utmost efforts to get their Alliances to pay this debt; yet half of it bag uot been raised. An ac count is kept of every cent sent in for this fund, and will be submitted at tbe annual meeting. Sherman County Alliance paid for all the Alliances In that county and where there is money in the treasury that can be spared it is a good plan. The sub-alliances have so many calls. The assessment was ordered on the AUHnoes In good U ml ing at Hastings; but in my judgment, all In good standing at Grand Island where Hie debt was assumed, should help to l ay It. Should too much be sunt In it will be used to pay other dt bts, We will pay all just debts at fast as possible, but uuder no olroumatauees will any new tUbis be contracted under the present management, all the ofllccrs blng uaaulmouscn this point. Editor Wkalth Makers: I bave just completed a trip tbrongh the south part of the state and I find several of the members of the party do not know that tbey are expected to raise money at tbe prlma' js for tbe state committee. In order to win the coming campaign the committee must have money to carry oj the campaign; and It is much better tbat the money be collected early tban jnst before the campaign closes. Now I hope to see at least one dollar collected In each voting precinct at the time of the primaries are held, and the one dollar or more tbat is collected sent to the county con ventions and there all be put together and seat by the delegates to the state convention. In this way the committee will have something to open the cam paign immediately after the ( (invention. Now every precinct can raUe one dol lar, and no precinct should fall to send tbat much to the s'ate convention. Respectfully, D Clem Deaveh.
