Eaton returned last night from Omaha, where he went to consult an oculist about removing a piece of steel from Ills eye. The doctor succeeded in getting Ed's eje out, but the steel still remains. lie will have a glass eye fitted next week. The Cass county assessors are quite slow in making their returns tbisyear. The law requires the completion of this work by the first day of June, but as yet only two assessors have re ported, these being from Liberty and South Bend precincts. Senator Thurston and Congressman Mercer have secured a 825,000 appro priation of river improvements at Ne braska City.
