of French and German statisticians,
there hare perished in the wars of th
last thirty years i.,500,000 men, while
there has been expended to carry them
on no less than the. inconceivable sum
of 113,000,000,000. Of this amount France
has paid nearly $.'3,500,000,000 as the cost
of the war with Prussia, while her loss
