DEMISE OF EUGENE L. REED. Death Cornea to a Former Well-Known Casa County Man In a Colorado Mint) I.ant Night' Wheel Club Itace Kotes. A Case of Public Spiritedneaa. That cesspool of filth at the mouth of the city sewer system, just below the B. & M. depot, thanks to the gen erosity and public spiritedness of Mayor Newell and the 11. A M., win soon be a thing of the past, and resi dents of that neighborhood and em ployes of the railway company whose health has continually been en dangered will now breathe with more ease. From the completion of the sewer system, in 1888, a deep hole has existed at the mouth of the sewer, which has constantly been teeming with the vilest sort of filth and offal. A heavy rain would occasionally wash a portion of the vile stuff out into the river, but during the present summer no relief from that source has been had and the place became a constant menace to the city's health. At the last meeting of the city council the matter was discussed and a commit tee appointed to take steps to do away with the evil. It was then that the mayor and the 13. & M. people came to the rescue. The committee had de cided to 1111 the deep hole with rock and sand-stone, thus allowing the filth to pass out through the regular sand bar channel without being deposited and retained in the deep dole. Mayor Newell is interested with Atwood & Co. in the stone quarries at Cedar Creek and through him the quarry people donated the necessary stone. The railway company was then approached and the company very promptly off ered to haul the stone to this city free of charge. Four cars of the stone ar rived yesterday and today were switched down on the track near the sewer mouth, where street comissioner Marshall and a force of laborers at once commenced dumping the stone. It will take several days to complete the work. The mayor, the quarry people and the railway company have the thanks of the entire community for the substantial manner in which they have aided in preserving thepub- lio health. A Novel Honey Moon. A young married couple last week arrived at Ileno, Nev., from Chicago, having travelled all the way on the blind baggage. They went from Chi cago on the Northwestern and were seen to get off the train at Omaha by a Uuion depot policeman lie supposed that they had merely ridden over from the transfer, and so said nothing. They were seen to go up town, and that was the last of them. From information received yesterday from Reno the couple ac complished the unique trip in just nine days. The couple were married in July, and the husband, who was abrakeman for the Illinois Central in Chicago, lost his position because of the strike. They saw their savings rapidly disap pear and also the little home and furniture. He had friends at Reno and so they determined to go there. They had just enough money left to buy food for the trip and an occasional night's lodging, but not enough to pay the railroad fare. Nothing daunted he suggested the blind baggage and she pluckily accepted the challenge as the only means of reaching Keno. They are now the attraction of the town at Reno and both have secured work and are now on the highway to prosperity. Stohlman, one of the best known farmers out in the neighbor hood of College Hill, took it into his head on a recent warm night to sleep on a porch outside of his house. The porch was a high one, and during his slumbers George tumbled off onto the ground, sustaining bruises which will keep him about the house for some time. Hereafter Mr. Stohlman will stick closer to his bed. 1 Constipation and sick manently cured, and piles prevented! A f.t.Or'n P.VS 81 by Japanese Liver Pellets; especially I . Deafnesa Cannot be Cured liy local applications, as they cannot reach the diseased portion ot the ear. There is only one way to cure deaf ness, and that is by constitutional remedies. Deafness is caused by an inflamed condition of the mucous lin ing of the eustachian tube. When this tube gets inflamed you have a rumbling sound or imperfect hearing, and when it is entirely closed deafness is the result, and unless the inflamma tion can be taken out and this tube restored to its normal condition, hear ing will be destroyed forever; nine cases out of ten are caused by catarrh, which is nothing but an intlamed con dition of the mucous surfaces. We will give one hundred dollars for any case of deafness (caused by catarrh) that cannot be cured by Hall's Catarrh Cure. Send for circulars. tree. F. J.
