care of an increased output that will
put them on an equal footing.

Thomas Sullivan, living six miles
southeast of town, a brother of Judge
A. N. Sullivan of this city, met with
and accident this morning which cost
him two fingers and a part of anothc r
off his left band.
Just how the accident happened Mr
Sullivan does not know, but thinks
that carelessness on his part had very
much to do with it. He was assisting
in operating a circular wood saw, and
in some way his left hand came in con
tact with the saw, severing the last
two lingers and a portion of the middle
linger from his hand.
After the accident Mr. Sullivan came
to town and Dr. Humphrey attended
to his lacerated hand.
Where there is a majority there need
be no filibuster. It is eatirely evident
that the congressmen opposing the
Bland bill know they are in the
minority, else they would not resort to
obstructive tactics. They are tryingto
defeat the will of the majority a
jourse whieb, when employed against
the bill for the repeal of the Sherman
law, was loudly denounced as un
American, not to say treasonable. The
newspapers which then most violently
condemned the filibuster are either
silent or complimentary now.
The situation of the house of repre
sentatives only emphasizes the grow
ing antagonism of the east and west.
New York and New Kngland are de
termined to defeat every effort for the
rehabilitation of silver. Ever so slight
concession as the coinage of silver al
ready bought and paid for and against
which no certificates are outstanding
meets their bitter hostility. In the in
terior, on the contrary, the rem'netiza
tion of silver is generally demanded.
The silver question and the tariff ques
tion are held of equal importance. The
farmers hare learned that the tariff
compels them to pay more for what'
they buy, while the single gold stand j
ard forces thm to accept less for what j
they sell. By'the one device they are !

Will Appeal the Case.
As yet Z.T.White,who was convicted
yesterday by a grand jury for hanging

him,but will probably Friday morning
The attorneys in the case are prepar
ing the necessary papers for an appeal
in case their motion for a new trial is
overruled. The appeal will betaken
on various grounds and his attorneys
are confident that they will have no
trouble insetting aside the verdict.
The case against II. W. Hoeratb has
been continued until the next term of

Associated Charities Meeting.
At the regular weekly meeting of
the Associated Charities last Friday
afternoon Vice President Clifford Wes
cott presided. The treasurer's report
showed the sum of $117.30 cash on
hand, and was as follows: Received
from all sources. 81.6U; paid on
orders, Sol. 10; expense of entertain
ment.W.ZO; balance, $117.30. it was
decided to extend aid to the Bowen
family, the colored people who live
in the north part of town. A vote
ot thanks was extended to the Turn
verein for a donation of 23.00.
On account of the conflict between
the cattle and sheep men in northern
Wyoming, a large number of sheep
will be put on the range in southwest
Dakota, especially in Fall River
county. S. A. Iden unloaded 3,000
head at Edgemont yesterday brought
from sear Sheridan and others are
coming. This is just what the people
there have been wishing for, as it is a
splendid sheep country and a number
of the large cattle companies have re
cently gone out of business in the
county.
C. E. Mayne, formerly of Omaha,
the real estate boomer, is under arrest
at San Francisco, charged with selling
land to which be bad no title.
