Gerald Sheehan was surprised on
his 13th birthday last Monday, June
5. by a group of his young friends,
who were guests at a birthday party
given in his honor. A most enjoyable
time was had by all.
Misses Margaret and Irene Dall,
daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Herman
Dall. departed early last week for
Peru, where they will attend sum
mer school during June and July.
They are completing their courses
and when they graduate Miss Mar
garet will receive the degree of
Bachelor of Science, while Miss Irene
will receive the degree of Bachelor
of Arts.
Guests at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Fred Flaischman last Sunday
were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cade and
Mrs. Albert Cochran and children,
all of Ashland; Mrs. Lloyd Trayo
and son Donald of Falls City and
Mrs. Alfred Martin and family of
Louisville. Mr. Cochran, who is a
traveling salesman, was not home
and so did not accompany the others
here from Ashland.
Departed for the West
Mr. and Mrs. Teddy Harms and
their son, Teddy, Jr., departed last
Thursday morning for Los Angeles,
where they will visit with their son
for about three weeks. They went
via ."Wichita, where they picked up
Mrs. Alice Alberding, a daughter,
who is accompanying them on the
trip.
Called to Talmage for Funeral
Herman Damme, a nephew of Mr.
Theo. Harms, died at his home in
the northwest and the remains were
shipped to Talmage, where the fun
eral was held on Thursday of last
week. Mr. and Mrs. Harms and son,
while on their way to Wichita and
the west, stopped to attend the fun
eral, continuing their journey from
there.
Holding Vacation Bible School
A vacation Bible study school is be
ing started at St. Patrick's Catholic
church this morning, with two in
structors. Sisters from the Blessed
Sacrament church who will have
charge of the giving of instruction.

weeks and at the conclusion of same
examinations will be giveu to stu
dents taking the course.
Wil Visit at J. C. Eauth's
Jack Huse, of Jackson, Nebraska,
a nephew of Mr. and Mrs. John C.
Kauth. who some time since was to
have spent thirty days at the Rauth
farm but had his vacation cut short
by a week, has ever harbored in his

Visitors Here from the North
Mr. and Mrs. William Keckler,
Mrs. Herman Bradenfeld and Mrs.
Will Baker, all of Gardner, North
Dakota, arrived here last week for a
visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Fred Bauers, parents of the ladies.
Mr. and Mrs. Bauers were pleased to
have the daughters home at this
time, when Fred is recovering from
a recent injury to his back, suffered
when he fell from a load of fodder.
He is getting along nicely now and
is able to be up and around.
The visitors state that although it
was rather dry there when they left,
they have heard some good rains
have fallen since. They say that dur
ing the past twenty-five years there
has never been a crop failure in the
vicinity where they reside. They left
Friday for home, as Mr. Keckler had
to return to his work, he being the
driver of the car.
Serenade Newlyweds Monday
A group of friends of the newly
wedded couple, Mr. and Mrs. Ken
neth Roeber paid a visit to their
farm home northeast of Manley and
gave the young friends a real old
fashioned charivari, with all the
noise and hubub possible to empha
sise their friendship and good wishes
for those who are now starting on
their journey of married life. The
newlyweds joined in the spirit and
invited the merrymakers in for a
most pleasant evening, climaxed with
some good eats. In departing all ex
pressed best wishes to Mr. and Mrs.
Roeber.
The bride, prior to her marriage a
week ago, was Miss Dorothy Ries-
ter.
Greenwood
Miss Nettie Clark of Lincoln spent
last Sunday at the Chas. Dyer home
here.
Greenwood has free movies every
Wednesday night. The pictures are
enjoyed by large crowds.
Mrs. Rosetta Axmaker is very
poorly at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. Ray McNurlin, at Lincoln.
Miss Marion Hartsook. who is at
the Bryan Memorial hospital in Lin
coln is not so well at this writing.
Mrs. E. L. McNurlin visited in
Omaha at the home of her daughter,
Mrs. Kenneth Fosberg the past
week.
The Greenwood Womans club met
Wednesday afternoon at the hall. A
fine luncheon and social meeting was
enjoyed.
Mrs. Osie Kidd of Fairmont and
Mrs. Lulu Leiver came . Friday to
visit Mrs. Levier's daughter, Mrs.
Joe Brown.
Mrs. Ray Rouse had the misfor
tune to fall and tear the ligaments
of her ankle, causing her much pain
and inconvenience.
Mr. and Mrs. William Carlson and
daughter of Tuscon. Arizona, who
have been visiting here, departed for
San Francisco Friday.
Mrs. Florence Armstrong and her
daughter, Miss Florence Beighley,
entertained the Dorcas society at the
church Friday afternoon.
Elaine Fulmer, Floyd Peters, Tel
ford Stradley, Wayne Howard and
John Lunceford enjoyed an outing
on the river from Sunday until Tues
day forenoon.
Mrs. E. L. McDonald attended
the graduation exercises at the Uni
versity of Nebraska coliseum in Lin
coln Monday, when her son, John
Bock, received his degree.
Miss Josephine Lewis returned to
her home at Verdon after finishing
high school here. She made her home
during the school term with her
grandmother, Mrs. Elsie Peters.
Miss Lucille Kelly went to Scotts
bluff Thursday night to visit her sis
ter, Irene, who has been there some
time. She visited at the Carl Foster
home in Omaha Thursday.

Wabash News
Henry Crozier, Weeping Water real
estate dealer, was transacting busi
ness in Wabash last Monday, calling
oh his friend, Sherman Hardaway.
Ralph Richards, who has been un
able to work the past three weeks
on account of an injured ankle, is
considerably improved, but not yet
entirely well.
Harold Richards, who is employed
by a wholesale house in Lincoln, suf
fered a sprained ankle last week, but
is reported getting along very nicely
at the present time.
Miss Helen Grant, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Fred Grant, of near Ne
hawka, spent several days the past
week at the home of her uncle and
aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Harda
way. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Schmidt and
the children went to Lincoln on last
Monday, where Mr. Schmidt secured
some repairs for the tractor which
he operates for the county in main
taining the highways of Elmwood
precinct.
Fern Hobby, former resident of
Wabash, who now resides in Alham
bra, California, accompanied by a
lady friend from that vicinity, were
guests at the home of her uncle, Wil
liam Murfin and family last week.
While here she endeavored to find
some of the older residents of Wa
bash who lived here when she did
and when the town was flourishing.
After a short visit, the ladies con
tinued on their way east, with the
New York world's fair as their ob
ject. They will return home via the
southern route.
Dr. Condra, of Lincoln, who ran
into the car of John Cardwell re
cently while returning home from
a night meeting of farmers held at
Manley, has made satisfactory set
tlement for the damages and Mr.
Cardwell went to Lincoln where he
traded the damaged car off for an
other one and now has a car in
which he can drive to and from his
work.
Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Stanley were
in Lincoln last Wednesday, it being
his regular day to go for goods for
the store, and he was accompanied
by his wife, they visiting their
daughter who recently underwent an
operation for acute appendicitis.
They found her getting along very
nicely following the trying ordeal.
Stork Brings Baby Daughter ""'
The home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Knaupe was made happy last week
when the stork presented - the par
ents with a fine baby daughter, born
at the Kunkel hospital in Weeping
Water. The mother and little lady
are doing nicely and the father
well, he is getting along as well as
could be expected.
Visited Here Last Sunday
Alfred Walters, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Wm. Walters, who has been sta
tioned at the CCC camp at Weeping
Water, was a visitor at the home of
his parents in Wabash last Sunday
and was joined here by his brother,
Roy Walters, who is employed on
the farm of Harrison J. Livingston.
This completed the family circle and
made a happy home party. The sons
returned to their .work Sunday even
ing. Flowers Attract Attention
Mrs. Bert Barden, who is a lover
of flowers and not afraid to work
and care 'for them, has a very fine
display of beautiful flowers about
the yard and house, which attracts
the attention of passersby. One of
the especially attractive portions of
the varied display is a bed of moss
roses (or as some call it rose moss)
in front of the house.
McCrorey Family Holds Picnic
The McCrorey family, many of
whom grew up in this vicinity, held
a family reunion and picnic at Rich
ards park here a place that in past
years was the scene of many assem
blages, including picnics, celebra
tions, political conventions, etc. The
members brought along an abundance
of good things to eat and a most en
joyable time was had, as they re
viewed by-gone days and visited to
gether. Those present included Marion Mc
Crorey and wife and Mr. and Mrs.
Eddie Nelson and their little son of
Elmwood; Ralph Dorr and wife and
Neil Dorr and wife of Wabash; I. C.
McCrorey and family and Mr. and
Mrs. Victor Thimgan of Murdock;
Wm. McCrorey and family, of Mound
City, Mo., and M. McCrorey and fam
ily of Greeley, Nebraska. A relative
and representative of the family
from New York state who chanced
to be visiting for a time in Lincoln,
also attended.

Dinner for Lincoln Guests
Superintendent and Mrs. L. S. De
voe entertained at a dinner last eve
ning at their home in honor of Mr.
and Mrs. iS. T. Holland and daugh
ter, Miss Dorothy Holland of Lin
coln, the former a brother of Mrs.
Devoe. Only the immediate members
of the families were present. Mr. and
Mrs. Holland's daughter is a teacher
in the Lincoln schools.
Following the dinner the Lincoln
party motored to their home.
Shcwer for Miss Moore
Mrs. James Mauzy tendered a hand
kerchief shower at her home at 823
Rock street Friday afternoon in
honor of Miss Joan Moore whose
forthcoming marriage to Mr. Herbert
Minor will take place soon. Eight
guests were present at the event.
A 2 o'clock dessert luncheon was
served by the hostess, Mrs. Mauzy,
assisted by her mother, Mrs. John
Hallstrom.
The luncheon was followed by card
and ping pong playing. In the prize
winners, Mrs. Howard Hirz won the
hrst prize, and Mrs. Walter Sikora
won the second prize.

The members of the K. B. card
club held their business-social meet
ing Thursday evening at the home of
Mrs. John Hatt on Pearl street. Mrs.
Frank Cloidt and Mrs. Raymond Lar
son were guests of the club.
The business end of the club was
taken up and the six ladies rating
the highest for the twelve consecu
tive meetings were made known. The
women listed as the six highest
rating card players are: Mrs. Frank
Cestor, first; Mrs. John Wolff, second;
Mrs. Roy Knorr, third; Miss Laura
Meisinger, fourth; Mrs. John Hatt,
fifth; and Mrs.E. A. Wurl, sixth.
Following the business session the
members engaged in playing bridge.
