LOSE GAME THURSDAY
The local American Legion base
ball team was at Omaha Thursday
afternoon to play a return with the
Holmes Recreational parlor team, the
locals losing the contest 9 to 3.
The Plattsmouth team led 3 to 0
up to the last of the third when the
Holmes team scored one. The fifth
and sixth1 innings saw theb lowup of
the contest for the locals, three scor
ing for Holmes' in the fifth and four
in the sixth frame.
Sedlak and Noble labored on the
mound for the locals while Phil
Hps did the receiving. Howard and
Vacantl were the batteries for the
Holmes aggregation.

DRAWS DOWN FINE
From Saturday's Daily
This morning In the county court
on the complaint of a represen
tative of the state liquor commission,
a complaint was filed against a young
man residing near this city, charging
him with misrepresenting his age for
the purpose of purchasing liquor. The
young man who was with a party of
other young people, called at one of
the local package liquor stores and
desired to purchase some refresh
ments. He was questioned by the
party in charge and stated that he
was of legal age for the purchase of
the liquor. As the youth emerged
he was grabbed by a representative
of the liquor commission and the li
quor taken and offered today in evi
dence in the case.
The court after hearing the facts
of the case and the plea of the de
fendant assessed a fine of $10 and
costs for the offense.
RETURNS FROM COLLEGE
Miss Frances Cloidt has returned
home from Columbia, Missouri,
where she has been attending
Stephens college, stopping on her re
turn home at Kansas City, Missouri,
where she visited with her friend,
Miss Norma Lee Clyatt. Miss Maxine
Cloidt accompanied her sister, called
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe E.
Hartford, (Marguerite Lynn) for
merly of this city, Mrs. Hartford be
ing a sorority sister of Miss Cloidt.
The Plattsmouth ladies learned while
there that Mrs. C. E. Hartford had
been quite ill at her home in Florida,
suffering from pneumonia. Mr. Hart
ford, long an invalid, is also not do
ing so well..
UNDERGOES OPERATION
Mrs. George Kalasek was taken to
Omaha Thursday where she under
went a major operation at the Clark
son hospital Friday morning. Mrs.
Kalasek has not been the best of
health for some time and her condi
tion was such that an operation was
necessary in the hope of giving her
some permanent relief from the ill
ness.
REPORTS FINE RAIN
From Friday's Dally
Attorney J. C. Bryant of Ashland
was among the visitors at the court
house today. He reports that the vi
cinity of Ashland had a nice shower
Tlra'sday night and this morning a
half inch rain that did much good.
PROVE GOOD SURGEONS
James Brown and Cack Lorenz,
two of the young bird lovers of the
city, have proven themselves real
surgeons in caring for Ibe injuries of
birds. A short time ago a pigeon, a
wing broken by the effecls of a bul
let fired by someone exterminating
the bird life, came to th Brown
home, limping into the shelter oi
this haven. The boys placed a splint
on the wing of the bird and it has
so far recovered that it was able to
t?y away and join its mates. The ac
tion of the boys is most commendable.
TO VISIT IN CALIFORNIA

Mrs. Paul Vandervoort and son,
Paul III left this morning on the
Challenger for Burbank, California
where they expect to spend some time
visiting friends and relatives. Dur
ing their stay in California they will
be guests of Mrs. Vandervoort's
brother, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Bulin.
HAVE PLEASANT VISIT
Miss Olive Jones, local librarian,
has had the pleasure of having a
number of guests with her, including
Mrs. 3. Dal Jones, sister-in-law of
Mis3 Jones; G. Dal Jones, Jr.,
nephew; and Mrs. Joseph Kane, a
niece, all of Evanston, 111. The gueBts
returned home Monday.
HERE FOR MEMORIAL DAY
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Stokes and
Mrs. Marie Richards had as Mem
orial day guests, Mr. and Mrs. Silas
A. Green and family of Omaha. Mrs.
Stokes and Mrs. Richards are a sister
and niece, respectively, of Mrs. Green.
SHOWS RAPID IMPROVEMENT
The condition of Bronson Timm,
who is at the Clarkson hospital, at
Omaha, continues to improve. The
patient has shown sapid progress and
it is hoped that he may be able to
return home by the end of the week.
VISITS WITH OLD FRIENDS
Dr. Elmer Nelson, of Seminole,
Texas, was here Wednesday evening
for a short time visiting vith his
old friends. Dr. Nelson was at one
time an operator for the Burlington
at Oreapolis and later studied as an
osteopath and has been in practice for
several years. He has been east and
is now on the way home. While here
he was a guest at the home of Coun
ty Treasurer John E. Turner and Dr.
O. C. Hudson.
ED SCHULH0F IMPROVING
The friends of E. H. Schulhof, who
are legion over Cass county, will
be very much pleased to learn that
his condition at the St. Joseph's hos
pital at Omaha is very pleasing to
the attending physicians. Mr. Schul
hof is resting well and showing the
most favorable reaction to the oper
ation. He is being kept quiet and
allowed only a few visitors as he is
recuperating.
DRAWS DOWN JJNE
Thursday afternoon in the county
court Duane Clark was arraigned on
a complaint by County Attorney Wal
ter H. Smith, charging the defend
ant with intoxication and resisting
an officer.
The court after hearing the evi
dence in the case as to the intoxi
cation of the young man and at
tempts to resist Officer Herbert John-,
son, gave a fine of $25 and costs on
tho charge of intoxication and on the
charge of resisting an officer, thirty
days in Jail.
RETURNS FROM HOSPITAL

Mrs. M. E. .N'Jenart. who has been
recuperating at the St. Joseph's hos
pital fr,om a recent operation, return
?ii tc her homo in La Platte, last eve
ning. Mrs. Nier.ari, who underwent a
major operation, 13 showing rapid
improvement but it will still be some
time before she will be able to re
sume her usual household duties.
FINED FOR INTOXICATION
FINED ON TRAFFIC CHARGE
In the county court Wednesday
afternoon Harry Roach was arraign
ed on a charge of driving onto a pub
lic highway without first bringing
his car to a full stop. After hear
ing the plea of guilty of the defend
ant, the court assessed a fine of $10
and costs.

Edward Smith of Pacific Junction,
was fined $5 and costs this morning
In police court. He was arrested last
evening and charged with intoxica
tion, "contrary to the peace and dig
nity of the people of the state of
Nebraska."
