TWINS ENJOY A REUNION
Rex Young of this city was at
Lyons, Nebraska, Sunday where he
attended a reunion of the members of
the Duerr family held at the city
oark and which was a most pleasant
occasion for the large family group.
Mr. Young took James Gow, of Belle
true, to the reunion, as Mrs. Duerr,
of Rosalie, the aged mother of the
Duerr family was a sister of Mr.
Gow.
Mr. Gow and Mrs. Duerr are now
both eighty-four years of age, they
being the first twins born in the ter
ritory of Nebraska at the old frontier
post of Bellevue. Mrs. Duerr was
the first white girl born in the ter
ritory also but Mr. Gow was a few
months younger than William Gram
lich of Papillion, the first white
male born in the territory.
This was the first meeting of the
twins since their childhood days and
was a most happy occasion for the
two as well as the members of the
family circle.

Early Congress
Adjournment is
Being Favored
Session to Continue Until at Least
June 1st Is Foreshadowed
by the Members.
LINCOLN, May 20 (UP) Several
legislators said today they saw little
possibility of final adjournment be
fore June 1.
They pointed out that the general
appropriations bill likely will con
sume most of next week. Debate is
expected to center on (tie amount
to be appropriated for state assist
ance and for the University of Ne
braska and the state teacher's col
leges. Previously members had hoped
to wind up the session by next week
end. Two factors that will have much to
do with determining the adjournment
date are the weather and how much
farther- the legislature goes into the
sifting file, representing a selection
by each member of a bill for prefer
ed consideration. If the weather is
hot there will be a tendency to cut
short.
Twenty-seven of the forty-three
preferred bills have yet to be con
sidered. Among these are Senator
Sorrell's agrol bill exempting farm
machinery from the gasoline tax, and
the state civil service bill.
"If the members are going to in
sist on considering their pet bills,"
Senator Edwin Schultz remarked,
"we won't be going home until Labor
Day."
Schultz is chairman of a committee
authorized to arrange an adjournment
date. He said he saw no advantage
in calling his committee together un
til the budget is past the contro
versial stage.
HOLDUP NEAR GLENW00D
GLENWOOD, la., May 19 (UP)
Police in adjoining states today were
on the lookout for four men who last
night, reportedly held up and robbed
Joe II. Ja-cobson, New York jewelry
salesman of 30,000 in diamonds and
other gems.
Jacobson told the sheriffs office
here that the men blocked his car
at the junction of highways 275 and
34 near here, lie said While one man
stayed behind the wheed,' the others
leveled guns at him and his Negro
driver and demanded two grips in
which Jacobson tarried his jewels.
The men were not molested.
Jacobson said the trio jumped out
!f their car calling, "stop in the
name of the law!"
ORDER ANTI-SUB BOATS
LONDON, May 20 (UP) Great
Britain has ordered high speed con
struction of twenty anti-submarine
ships of an entirely new and secret
design, the Daily Express asserted
today. ,
It was said that one of the most
important features of the ships
would be submarine detection gear
of a type which is also being fitted
to thirty-six destroyers now under
construction. No other navy possesses
this device, the newspaper said.
EXPLOSION AT PRAGUE
PRAGUE, Czechoslovakia, May 20
(UP) A tremendous explosion rock
ed half of the city today, wrecking
a house in the Rosengasse in the cen
ter of Prague, which is headquarters
of four Masonic lodges.
The force of the explosion blew
doors into the street. Smoke clouds
rolled out7 of the building, part of
which collapsed.
An investigation so far had not
revealed whether there were any cas
ualties. WHEAT PAYMENTS CERTIFIED
LINCOLN, May 19 (UP) Fred S.
Wallace, Nebraska agricultural con
cervation committee chairman, said
today payments totaling $797,000
were certified for payment to Nebras
ka wheat producers under the 1939
price adjustment program.
Payments were approved for grow
J in fifty-two counties. Total
amount for price adjustment pay
ments available is about $4,300,000,
Wallace said.
DR. CHARLES MAYO RESTING
CHICAGO, May 20 (UP) Dr.
Charles H. Mayo, 73, famed physician
and surgeon of tse Mayo clinic at
Rochester, Minn., stricken with pneu
monia while visiting in Chicago, was
reported "resting" today in Mercy
hospital.
He became ill yesterday while
stopping in a "Loop" hotel.
His wife and Dr. Thomas Dry of
the clinic staff flew to his bedside.
CHINCH BUGS MENACE
LINCOLN, May 19 (UP) Heavy
flights of migrating chinch bugs early
this month warned Nebraska farmers
the insects may cause considerable
damage to crops this year. Professor
M. H. Swenk, "chairman of the Ne
braska college of agriculture ento
mology department, said today.
Small grain fields in southeastern
Nebraska were found harboring
heavy chinch bug populations, Swenk
said. Serious damage to barley, rye,
and wheat fields was reported in the
area as far north and west as Saline
and Lancaster counties.
Professor Swenk said "the flights
continue and indicate the presence
and survival of a larger area of a
larger number of hinch bugs than
had been realized last fall and early
spring."
