Meeting Postponed Due to the illnes of Mrs. Earl Keller during: the past week, she was unable to entertain the Moth ers' and Daughters' Council club members as previously arranged and the club meeting has been postponed till a later date. Celebrates Birthday Mrs. Frank Taylor's birthday oc curred Monday and that evening she had the pleasure of celebrating the occasion with a group of friends who came up from Weeping Water to participate in an evening of games and visiting. Until moving to town to be close to his grocery busi ness, the Jordan family had resided on their farm continuously from the time of their marriage. - The farm was sold to Joe Parsell. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Howe have been residing on the place the past year. Quite 111 Joe Armstrong, who has not been in the best of health for the past few years, has been quite ill this week. Mr. Armstrong has been confined to his bed and relatives are much concerned over his condi tion. Friends hope that in a very short time, Mr. Armstrong will be about again. PTA Meeting Wednesday Wednesday evening, February S, at 7:30 o'clock at the school audi torium, the P. T. A. will hold its regular reoruary meeting, wnicn is scheduled one week earlier than the usual meeting date. Dr. Werner from the State Uni versity Extension department will address the association. Dr. Werner has been a guest speaker at Alvo some time ago and was greatly appreciated and enjoyed, so there is no doubt but what he will fee equally as well enjoyed upon his second appearance. The committee is trying hard to secure some very special music in addition to the address. Everyone is invited to be at the high school auditorium Wednesday evening. February 3. Entertains Aid Society Members and several guests of the Ladies Aid Society met at the liome of Mrs. W. L. Copple Wednes day afternoon for their regular February meeting. A very large crowd was present to enjoy a most profitable and pleasant afternoon. The devotions were in charge of Mrs. Mark Nickel. The president, Mrs. Talbert, pre sided over the business meeting. Mesdames Albert Swanson, Frank Edwards and Hardnock were assist ant hostesses. Some of the guests present were: Mesdames Paul B. Johnson, Clyde Johnson and Raymond Bornemeier. ' Entertains Club Mrs. Mabel Winn most delight fully entertained the Mothers' and Daughters' Council club at her home Friday afternoon of last week. Mrs. Carl Sutton was to have been hos tess, but due to Mrs." Sutton moving, Mrs. Winn entertained. A large crowd was present and the ladies greatly enjoyed the les- THE ! After the regular lesson, the let ters from away were continued and members who had not previously read their letters did so at the close of the lesson. A delicious hot lunch was served at the close of the afternoon's ac tivities. Mrs. Grover Hill was a guest. Parents of Fine Son Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dieckman are the proud parents of a fine big son born early Monday morning. Mrs. Dieckman and son are doing fine. They are at a Lincoln hos pital. Friends extend congratulations. Served Ground Hog Supper Mrs. Ed Schuelke and her group of the Ladies Aid society served a delicious ground hog supper which consisted of pancakes, sausage, coffee and prunes, Thursday evening at the church basement. Quite a good crowd attended and enjoyed the event. Elmwood News Guy McGill, living a short distance east of town, was looking after busi ness matters in Weeping Water last Tuesday. Cyrus Maires, who has been mak ing his home in Elmwood, went to the home of. Clark Gonzales, where he will make his home and work on the farm. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Julian visited friends in Omaha over Sunday. Guy Clement was called to Om aha last Tuesday to look after busi ness for the American Exchange bank. Mrs. Emma Shreeves was taken suddenly ill last Monday evening and was very ill throughout the night. By the next day she was somewhat better, though not entire ly over the malady. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Penterman and their son Morris Penterman and wife were guests Sunday at tha home of Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Adams and family, of Ashland. Mrs. Her man Penterman and Mrs. Adams are sisters. W. W. Coat man was celled to Weeping Water last Monday where ho had business matters to look after for his father. William Coat man, who owns property there. The elder Mr. Coatman is making his home with a daughter, Mrs. M. L. Golliher, of Grand Island. Richard De Les Dernier has re ceived word from his cousin, J Stuart Rough, of Nehawka, who has been spending the winter in Cali fornia, that he has gone to Austin, Texas, to visit at the home of a daughter the next six weeks before returning to Nebraska. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wood have been experiencing their share of ill ness with the flu and other prevail ing malidies. Mr. Wood got by with only about eight days of having to stay at home, but Mrs. Wood was compelled to miss eight weeks from IJible school, which she attends regu larly when not indisposed. Members of the Elmwood Volun teer fire department held a most en jovahle meeting at the community I uilding Wednesday night. Follow ing their business session, all enjoy ed a fine oyster stew which was pre pared by Herman Penterman and N. D. Both well. Many at Plattsmouth More than a score of Elmwood people went to Plattsmouth Mon day to attend a county court hear ing in which certain local parties were involved, growing out of the robbery of the Hall store. Several of the group had business to transact there, but the court hearing was what took most of them to the coun ty seat. Enjoyable Bridge Party Mr. and Mrs. Guy Clement enter tained the members of their bridge club at their home in Elmwood last Monday evening. High scores among the ladies were won by Mesdames Ronald Schlichtemeier and Orley Clement, while among the menfolk, Harry Sexton and Bud Clement car ried off the honors. A most delicious luncheon was served to climax the evening, and all are looking forward to another meeting at this hospit able home. Seeing Much Country Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Parriott have received word from their son, Ed ward Parriott, who last Bummer joined the navy, telling of the travel ing he has been doing. The Pacific fleet ship on which he is stationed was among those, that went to the Hawaiian islands for maneuvers, and he was able to visit Honolulu. Since then they have turned eastward and gone through the Panama canal to Cuba, where he will remain several weeks as a student in a naval school, while the-hip on which he was sta tioned goes on to New York City. Benefit Bingo Party A benefit Bingo party was arrang ed to raise funds for improving the Elmwood park. Prizes were given by the merchants and a large crowd turned out, including several dele gations from neighboring towns. A fine time was had by all, and a neat sum was realized with which to carry on the park work. Telephone Office a Beauty Spot Believing that a business place might as well be one of beauty as one of drab surroundings, operators at the Elmwood telephone exchange have a liberal supply of growing plants and flowers, many of them in bloom, which enlivens the place and makes it one of cheer for both the employes and patrons.
