message of the death last night at
Poeatello. Idaho, of Mrs. Frank
lfrnik. CO. a former resident of
Plattsmouth. which came at the close
of an illness that : has covered the
past two years and. in which she has
been gradually failing until the"end.
v The deceased lady, daughter of
the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kalasek,
was born in Plattsmouth and spent
her younger years in this city and
where forty-one years ago she was
married to Frank Ilronek and later
they moved to the west where they
located at Poeatello and have since
resided there.
Mr. Hronlc has been engaged as an
inspector for the Union Pacific on

great many years.
There are twelve children with the
father left to mourn the passing of
Mrs. Ilronek, all of the family re
siding In and mar Poeatello and were
with the mother In her last days.
She is survived by three sisters and
Ave brothers, Frank, Wesley, Julius,
Edward Kalasek of this city, Anton
Kalasek of Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs
Michael Eajeck and Mrs. J. M. Sed-
lak of this city and Mrs. Joseph Wales
of Omaha.
Mrs. Bajeclc and Julius Kalasek
are departing this evening for Poca
tello where they will attend the fun
eral services.
RECEIVES HIGH H0N0B
James Robertson, II, son of Mr.
and Mrs. W. A. Robertson, has been
made an officer of the Midshipman
regiment of the United States Naval
Academy at Annapolis. Officers for
this regiment are chosen on a basis
of aptitude for the service and
scholarship.
During the year, three sets of offi
cers are taken from the graduating
class, of which James is a member.
The first two are appointed and the
third set is chosen from the person
nel of the first two. The first class
run the regiment under the super
vision of the commission officer.
Comparatively few are given this
office. There are 614 in the graduat
ing class this year so to be chosen
for the post is a fine recognition for
James. His 'position is Lieutenant
Junior Grade.
CONDUCT SURVEY TO GAIN
"FIRST HAND INFORMATION
At the suggestion of Supt. L. S.
Devoe. Mr. Price is having his Sen
ior English class make a practical
investigation. The investigation is
for the purpose of determining what
should be taught during the second
semester pf S?nior English. The sec
ond semester's work has been par
ticularly designed for those students
who wish to go on to college and
therefore are particularly in need of
a good command of the English lan
guage. (All of us need this, but
many do not have Freshman English
college teachers who insist upon good
English).
The question facing the Senior
English class in Plattsmouth high
school is "What should be stressed
mopt in Senior English, in the light
of the experience of former students
who are now In college?" In order
to get the answer, each student is
writing to former students, now in
college, asking their opinions. The
answers will guide the class work
during the second semester.
DEATH OF GUY MILLER
From Saturday's Dally
The message was received here to
day by relatives of the death early
today at his home at Winner, South
Dakota, of Guy Miller, the result of
a sudden heart attack. Mr. Miller
has been a very prominent resident
of Winner and for a number of years
was an enthusiastic follower of
aviation and has made many trips
between his' home and Omaha to visit
here. Mrs. Miller, the widow, was
formerly Miss May Kunsmann of this
city and with her son are the only
survivors of the immediate family.
The funeral will be-held Monday
at 10 a. m. at Winner.

New Officers Now in Charge of the
Business Affairs of the County
and Busy at Work.

Following the swearing-in of the
elected and appointive deputies at
the court house this morning, the
newly elected officials and their
forces are' now busy at work. To
those who are just assuming .their
offices the experience is new and a
very happy day for them all while
to those who are re-elected the work
is proceeding along calmly and with
but the time out for the oath taking.
Judge A. H. Duxbury administered
the oath of office and the ceremony
was witnessed by a number of the
court house force and Mrs. Ray Nor
ris of Weeping Water was here as
well as Mrs. Walter II. Smith to wit
ness their husbands tyke up the new
duties to which they had been called
by the people of the county. The
new officials are taking hold in fine
shape and will be ready to carry on
for the best interests of the people of
Cass county.

The annual meeting of the Farm
ers Elevator Co., of Cedar Creek,
Nebraska, will be held at Cedar
Creek on Thursday. January 12,
1939, at 2:00 o'clock p. m.

Veterans hospital at Lincoln the past

fore New Year's day, greatly improv
ed in health as a result of the treat
ment received there.
ANNOUNCE BIRTH OF SON
Friends of Mr. and Mrs. D. R.
Utter of Princeton, Indiana, have re
ceived the announcement of the birth
of a fine son, Jack Dudley, weight
six pounds and twelve ounces. The
little one waj born on January 2nd
and is showing excellent progress.
He Is a grandson of Mrs. Myra Utter
of Lincoln, who was at Princeton at
the time of his arrival. The Utter
family reside at 128 So. Prince street,
Princeton, Ind.

MENDED I'OR RED CROSS WORK
The Nebraska State Dental asso
ciation has recommended to the Cass
county chapter of the American Red
Cross that Dr. P. T. Heineman be ap
pointed as the dentist to work with
the Red Cross here. This Is a fine
recognition of the work of Dr. Heine-man.
PERFORMS FIRST CEREMONY
Hugh Norton served as justice of
the peace at Panama and Brock for
18 years but up to this week had
not performed a single marriage cere
mony. Monday he married the first
couple In his career Mildred Wag
goner and Charles Doty of Vesta.
Mr. Norton is a former agent of
the Missouri Pacific in this city.
