They also stop ped at Leavenworth, Kansas, on the way back, to look over this inter esting city. Harry Buffington and T. G. Klimm were at Lincoln the past week, go ing there to have the crippled child of the Buffington family placed in the hospital there for" treatment. Miss Alma Linkie and rather and Miss Alice Steel, of Nebraska City were visitors at the Klimm home on ' Sunday. Miss Linke has taught school in Nebraska City for the past thirty years. Home chapter No. 189, Order of the Eastern Star, held its annual election of officerso n Tuesday eve ning at the lodge rooms in the Ma sonic building and with a very large body of the membership in attend ance. The officers selected were: Worthy Matron Mrs. William F. ! Evers. Associate Matron Mrs. W. L. Seybolt, Murray. Worthy Patron John Jahanasek. Associate Patron L. L. Wiles. Conductress- Miss Marie Nolting. Associate Conductress Mrs. Wiley Sigler. Secretary Miss Clara Weyrich. Treasurer Miss Mary Petersen. The other officers of the chapter will be appointed later by the new worthy matron. SCHOOL BOARD MEETS The board of education held their regular monthly meeting Monday night at the school house to take up a large number of matters that were demanding attention. The board of education received the resignation of Mrs. Lora Lloyd Kieck, teacher in the first ward, ef fective January 1st, as she is to take up her duties as county super intendent of schools. As successor to Mrs. Kieck the board named Miss Ruth Evelyn Horn, of Papillion, who has had three years teaching ex perience and comes here very highly recommended. The board also decided that the Christmas vacation would Btart on Wednesday, December 21st and school resume activity on Tuesday, January 3rd. It was also voted that the meet ings of the board be held on the first Monday of the month at 4:15 p. m., in the future. ATTEND TAXPAYERS MEETING From Monday's Dallv This morning H. A. Schneider, .County Commissioner Elmer Hall- etrom. County Treasurer John E. Turner and State Senator Fred L. Carsten, departed for Fremont. They attended a meeting of the Ne braska Taxpayers League which is holding a ' two day session. Many speakers from over the state will be at the meeting and discuss the tax problem from many standpoints. Governor Cochran will be among the speakers at the sessions. UNDERGOES OPERATION J. A. Edgerton, one of the long time residents of the city, was oper ated on Monday at the University hospital at Omaha in an attempt to correct an eye trouble I from which Mr. Edgerton has suffered in recent years. Mr. Edgerton was taken to the hospital four weeks ago for the operation but suffered a very severe heart attack that made necessary his being kept quiet and in bed until the attack passed sufficiently for the operation. The mother and little one are reported as doing very nicely.
