"The Sacredness of the Home" Ex. 20:14; Matt. 5:27, 28; Mark 10:2-16. Not many teachers are able or willing to discuss this delicate prob lem in their classes; and yet a proper understanding of the relationship of the sexes, before and after marriage, would forestall many sins, misery, shame and divorce. Man, endowed with intelligence, leason, will power and conscience should not need to be forced by law to abstain from adultry. But here again we meet man after the fall, with his whole nature going the wrong way the most holy desires and emotions are distorted and have become selfish, immoral, beastly. According to God's purpose and plan, one man and one woman con stitute the family; the first organi zation in the world, the foundation of society and the state. And it will only fulfill its God-intended purpose and plan, if it lives up to the divine decree one man one woman and love the bond that holds them to gether. Would there have been any neces sity for a law such as: "Thou shalt not commit adultery" if man had not lost the image of God through dis obedience? This disobedience chang ed the whole structure of the unl- yerse. What is adultery? . Unfaithfulness of either man or woman to their marriage vow. It is an outrageous crime, striking at the root of the sanctity of the home. Fornication re fers to all sexual relationships out side of the marriage state, and in the New Testament one is condamned just as severely as the other. Mar riage is .not only a physical union, tut a union of mind and spirit, so that we may speak of marriage as the true completion and fulfillment of human life, and, by God's ordain ing, in our creation, two become one;, and this can only be established by love. This being the case, how is it possible that one or the other should break or destroy this union; which would naturally blight this union that was established In love, and also destroy the home? Could one or the other ever have a proper regard for each other after proven unfaithful? Our Lord's comment on adultery goes farther and deeper, when he says that a man's lust after another woman is adultery, and warns us of impure thoughts. To lust after means "to desire," "to long for." It is through the eye-primarily that pas sion enters, but if the eye is turned away, and the moral purity of the heart expels the intruding movement towards Bin, then the law ia not bioken; on the contrary, it is kept. We come now to the perplexing question of divorce. The word of God has only one cause for divorce where one or the other prove un faithful to their marriage vow. In the various states of the U. S. there are forty-two grounds for divorce. In the United States in 1920 there were living 235,284 divorced men and 273,304 divorced women; In 1930 the figures had more than doubled, being 4 89,478 men and 573, 14S women. In the year 193 2 there were 160, 33S divorces granted in the United States, or 103 out of every 1,000 marriages. Remarriage of divorced people is tantamount to the commission of adultery, according to Jesus' inter pretation of the law. Jesus' love for little children shows us a beautiful picture. Child ren are the crown and glory of par ents and the home. There is no real home where there are no children. This act off Jesus, taking - little children in his arms, laying his hands on others, could never be for gotten by the mothers who would talk about it years afterward. The Kingdom belongs to little children; there are no children in hell. This beautiful incident opens up a new vista on childhood. It is not enough to raise, house, feed, clothe and pro tect them; that will do for the body; but mind, soul and spirit have to he cared for as well as the body. The first is needed and the second essen tial. But can a parent do this who does not know God? They may send them to Sunday school, or let the mother look after their spiritual training. Many children may rise up in the last judgment, accusing their fathers (and some mothers as well) for having neglected to bring them to Jesus. ' Only through Jesus can the child come into his own. Ever since this incident, Christianity has become pre-eminently the religion of the child. O, the glory of the Christian fam ily where this ideal of marriage is realized and where this truth con cerning children is accepted. The ideal Christian home is beautifully described by St. Paul in Eph. 5:22 33. Where man and wife live in a relationship as ChriBt and the church there is a piece of teaven on earth. (Read above scripture). Where men love their wives as their own bodies and so live as to h.ive the respect and reverence of their wives the divorce lawyer would starve; there children are brought to Jesus early and grow up in an atmosphere where they will have no desire for the pleasures of the world, but find perfect satisfaction, in beius about their Father's business. FAIRFIELD, Neb., Nov. 16 (UP) Two unmasked bandits held up the Fairfield state bank at opening time today and fled in a banker's car with approximately fSOO in cash after tieing up Charles Glenn, bank cashier and his wife. Clay County Sheriff John J. Han- said the robbers tied Mrs. Glenn to chair, bound her husband, took his car keys and placed him on the floor. They scooped up the counter cash and ran out to Glenn's car, park ed in front of the bank, and sped eastward out of town. Mrs. Glenn dragged her chair to a window and rapped on the glass, at tracting the attention of several' passersby who quickly untied them. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn were the only persons in the bank at the time of the robbery. She is the bank book keeper. On entering the bank the robbers asked for money to buy food When Mrs. Glenn gave them each a me, one said, drawing a gun: "This is a holdup, put up your hands." uienn described the bandits as rather nervous" and not at all "hard boiled." Sheriff Karr said he believed the men were the . same who loitered about the village yesterday. The bank car is a gray 1938 Chevrolet coach with license number 30-713. INCLUDED CATHOLICS TOO WASHINGTON, Nov. 16 (UP) President Roosevelt's criticism of Nazi Germany and its treatment of religious groups applies to Catholics as well as Jews, the White House stated today. Secretary Stephen T. Early point ed out that the president's statement in which he expressed himself shock ed at the treatment accorded certain minorities was interpreted generally as meaning only the Jews. Such was not the president's intention, he de clared, referring specifically to Nazi inspired attacks on Cardinal Innitzer in Vienna. It was indicated that the presi dent would confer with Ambassador Hugh Wilson, American envoy to Germany after he has made his re port to the state department on his return to this country. There is a possibility that Wilson's conference might take place at Warm Springs, Georgia. MRS. JEWEL BOX REGISTERS ASHLAND, Ore. ' $5L to $3 CASH FOR DEAD HORSES AMD CATTLE 50o per 100 lbs. for Hogs! For Prompt Service, Reverse Calls to Market 3541, Omaha The Fort Crook Rendering Works LINCOLN, Nov. 16 (UP) The Ne braska State Medical association an nounced tentative plans today for establishment of a low-cost group hospital service to be directed by a non-profit corporation organized un der the Nebraska insurance laws. M. C. Smith, executive secretary, said the board of trustees had au thorized him to set up details of the plan for submission to the board of councillors at the annual meeting in January, when the proposal is ex pected to be placed I.i operation. The American Medical association gave its blessing to group hospital insurance in September and also ap proved pre-paid medical care, which Smith said "we hope we can add at a later date. "We want to help people to whom a nospltal bill is a catastrophe, Smith continued. The State Medical association is interested in seeing that Nebraska residents get the very best hospital and medical care at a cost they can afford to pay. This plan does not contemplate any free service. "If the corporation is successful. and we have every reason to believe it will be, any profits will go back into the Group Hospital associa-' tion." Subscribers will pay approximate ly 75 cents a month or $9 a year which will entitle each member to 21 days of hospitalization per year in a semi-private ward (two to a room) and use of the operating room. The family rate will be $1.50 a month, regardless of the number of children. This service does not in clude medical care, X-ray, anaesthe sia or pathology examination. Patients will select their own phy sicians but the hospital must be an approved institution. Smith said the plan is to accept memberships in groups of 10. He believes the idea will appeal particularly to business employes and other groups. No sales man will be employed to solicit mem berships. Smith said the Nebraska Medical association is among the first of the state medical organizations in the nation to sponsor ' hospital insur ance. The announcement was interpreted as an answer of organised medicine in Nebraska to charges that physi cians were not interested in low-cost hospital care. The association will finance the plan with funds from its reserves. Walter H. Smith LAWYER Flattsmouth State Bank Building Plattsmouth, Nebraska I J.
