From Tuesday's Dally
In the death of Mrs. Walter J.
White, 91, at the family home here
Saturday, the community lost one of
its oldest residents and a lady who
was loved and esteemed by a large
circle of friends that she made
through the years.
Annie lone Betts was a native of
northern Ireland. ; her family being
of the nobility of that part of tne
British empire and she was a direct
desecendent of Lady Leigh, prom
inent in the history and life of that
section of Ireland. When a young
girl she came to the United States
with her family and was engaged in
teaching for 'some time. It was in
this city that her family located, her
father and brother being priests of
the Episcopal church and of which
she has been a very devout member
up to the day of her passing away.
It was due to the efforts of the
brother. Father George Betts, that
the present St. Luke's church was
secured through the generosity of
Mrs. Young, donor of the building
as a memorial to her son. The father
of Mrs. White was also the founder
of the St. Barnabas parish of the
Episcopal church in Omaha.
It was here that Miss Betts and
Walter J. White, member of one of
the pioneer families of the west, were
married and have made their home
here through the years and loved and
honored for their splendid Christian
lives. Mr. White preceded his wife
in death several years ago and since
which time Mrs. White and daugh
ter, Miss Mable White, have made
their home in' the family residence In
the north; part of the city. A daugh
ter, Mrs. Edwin Brawick, has also
preceded the mother in death. There
are also two nieces here, Mrs. J. A.
Donelan and Miss Verna Leonard,
surviving.-
The funeral services were held this
morning at 10:30 at the St. Luke's
church where the final chapter of
life was closed amid the scenes
she has long loved and where she
had worshipped.,
Father George Tyner of Omaha
conducted the Episcopal office for
the dead-
During the services two of the
old hymns. "O Lamb of God" and
"Jesus Lover of My Soul" were sung
by Mrs. R. F. Patterson, Mrs. John :
E. Schutz and Father Tyner. j
The interment was at Oak Hill j
cemetery and in charge of the
Streight funeral home.
Among those from out of the city
to attend the services were Mr. and
Mrs. J. E. Worley of Lincoln and
Mr. and Mrs. J. C Thygeson of Ne
braska City, the ladies being nieces
of Mrs. White.
FULLY RECOVERS FROM ATTACK
E. J. Holmes, a member of the
Nebraska Masonic Home, who was
taken with a heart attack last Sun
day while he was in the men's Bible
class of the Christian Bible school
and had to be taken to the Home.
He was reported as about fully re
covered later in the day. Like at
tacks have come to Mr. Holmes, who
is advanced in years and it is with
much gratification that his many
friends now know that he is in nor
mal health again.
