Catching Up
on Poor Relief as
Load Lighter
Easing Up of Need Thru Summer
and Tax Receipts Permit the
Payment of Old Claims
At its October meetings, the Cass
county Board of Commissioners al
lowed many claims against the Poor
Relief fund, dating back to late win
ter and early spring, which have
been on file for some time, help up
due to depleted balance in that fund.
Demands upon the fund have grown
steadily each year.and although a
very sizeable tax levy is made to
take care of relief costs, it has been
necessary to delay payment of claims
sometimes for months until money
it on hand to meet thera.
Reports were received of fees col
lected by the various county officers
were received, showing the follow
ing amounts:

The Board approved orders by the
County Judge renewing the Mother's
Pensions of Edna Marie Greene, Cleo
Capper, Mrs. Anna Pittman, Marie
Richards, Mrs. Mary McFarland,
Mrs. Lucille Gaines and Elsie Kath
crine Tweton.

PARIS, Nov. 12 (UP) The Duke
and Duchess of Gloucester and Wind
sor are parting today with such a
show of affection that it seemed the
estrangement of Great Britain s royal
family was ended, and the former
Wallis Simpson of America would
soon be accepted in its ranks.
The Duke of Windsor, who aband
oned the throne two ea;s ago to
marry Mrs. Simpson, was described
as "happy as a bov" that his Lrothct
had come to visit, and it was reported
that a contributing factor to his joy
was that the visit had been suggested
by King George, their leignlng broth
er, as a prelude to invitii ? the Wind
sors to England.
The Dukes and Duchesses were out
until after midnight today celebrat
ing the reunion, beginning :.t the
famous Larue restaurant, on the place
De La Mad?leir.e. A few ir.timutc;
were with them.
The Duke and Duchess of Glouces
ter planned to return to xpJqii by
airplane today. They were on routs
homo from Africa in a plane piloted
by E. H Fielden, captain of the King's:
Flight, and arranged the stopover
here, reportedly on instructions from

the Windsors were likely to return tc

newspaper said it vas believed that
the meeting of the Dukes ar.d Duch
esses marks the beginning of recon
ciliation. Paris gossips noted particularly
the warmth of the two Duchesses'
greetings. A short time after the
reunion yesterday they were alone in
animated conservation, leaving the
Dukes in another room. The Dukes
were said to have discussed gencrr.1
topics, and especially the Glouccsters'
African trip, but it was doubted that
the subject of the Windsors' exile
came up.
The two couples had lunch together
in the Windsors' apartment yesterday
then went to visit the Windsors' now
heme on Boulevard Sachet, which the;,
plan to occupy in two or three weeks.
The Duchesses explored the decoration
plans, and were together incesscntly
throughout the day.

husband, today was the only woman

title. Mrs. Chestnut defeated a group

day. She husked a net of 11 bushels
and 6 pounds in the allotted time of
one hour.
