BACK IN ACTIVE WORK
James H. Herold. who has for
the past several weeks been here
vlsitinK with his relatives and
friends, has been placed In charge of
the conduct of the sales department
of the Farley Furniture Co.. This Is
a very familiar ground for Mr. Her
old as for a great many years he
was at the head of the furniture de
partment of Rudge & Guenzel of Lin
coln, one of the largest establish
ments of its kind in the state. Later
he was with a large furniture house
in Minneapolis until leaving that
city.
HAS FOREARM BROKEN
Albert Young, of Murray, Is wear
ing his arm In a sling as the result
of an accident sustained Monday.
Mr. Young was in a car with his
right arm out of the car window
when a car backing up caught the
arm and caused the fracture.
SECURES PAINTING CONTRACT
HERE FROM CHICAGO
Mrs. Ben Ilanklnson and son of
Chicago, were here Monday for a
short time and visiting with old
friends and neighbors when the fam
ily made their home in this city.
The board of education at their
meeting Tuesday afternoon let the
contract for the painting of the ex
terior woodwork on the high school
building. The contract was let to
H. L. Kruger as the lowest bidder
and who will start soon on the work.
BIRTH OF SON
Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Toman are the
happy parents of a fine eight and a
half pound son, born at their home
on Friday. September 2nd. All are
doing fine.

Graves Family
Has Reunion at
Omaha Park
Descendents of Family of William
and Mahala Graves Observe
Annual Get-Together.
The members of the Graves family
to the number of twenty-eight and
representing residents of Cass, Lan
caster, Sarpy and Douglas counties,
met on Monday at Elmwood park In
Omaha.
This group was a part of the de
scendents of William and Mahala
Graves, who at an early day had
moved from Mills county. Iowa, to
the frontier town of Rock Bluffs In
the fifties.
Though the parents have long since
passed away there are still two of
the original family living, Mrs. Mary
Burnett and Judge C. L. Graves of
this city. x
Officers were re-elected for the
coming year, they comprising the fol
lowing: President Judge C. L. Graces.
Vice-President Harry E. Graves,
Lincoln.
Secretary-Treasurer J. II. Graves.
Assistant Secretary - Treasurer
Andy Graves. Bellevue.
The party enjoyed a fine picnic
dinner prepared by the ladies of the
party and after which the time was
spent in visiting and games among
the members of the group.
DISTRICT COURT NOTES
An appeal has-been filed by the
defendants in the compensation
award case of Donald Robinson vs.
E.alph Dean and the Travelers In
surance Co. The compensation court
of Judge Charles E. Jackman gave
the plaintiff judgment of $S per
week for a period of not more than
300 weeks. The disability was claim
ed as the result of monoxide gas
poisoning while the plaintiff in the
employ of the defendant Dean, was
engaged in insulating a house.
A suit to quiet title, Peter Mumm,
et al vs. Charles Sullivan, et al, has
been filed in the district court. W.
A. Robertson and C. E. Martin ap
pear for the defendant.

Prom Wednesday's Dally
The members of the Plattsmouth
volunteer fire department met last
evening at the city hall to hold their
annual election of officers for the
department. There were a large num
ber In attendance at the meeting and
a great deal of Interest taken.
Dr. O. Sandin, who has for many
years served as chief of the depart
ment was elected again to that posi
tion and his confirmation by the city
council recommended.
Other officers of the department
named were:

It was decided to take up with
the city council the matter of re
arranging the Interior of the fire de
partment room on the frst floor of
the city hall so that a small club
room might be provided for the fire
men and which would add to the in
terest of the members.

J. A. Edgerton, one of the old
residents of the city, who has been
at Omaha for a short time to under-
go an eye operation, was returned
home Monday. Mr. Edgerton has had
jtwo of the operations in the hope
jof restoring his sight and it is hoped
that in a short time he may have
the full use of his sight. He was
brought home by his daughter, Mrs.
Ruby Lester, with whom he has made
I his home.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Long of
north of Pacific Junction, were here
Tuesday night in company with sev
eral other boosters for the kitten
ball game in which the Platteville
precinct team was playing.
They report that John A. Long,
of Louisville, father of Mr. Long,
is at an Omaha hospital as the re
sult of an injury sustained in an acci
dent. Mr. Long was working around
his place and accidently stepped on a
stick that threw him off balance and
he fell over an empty gas drum and
with the result that he sustained an
injury that may make necessary an
operation.

Lamphear and grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. B. C. Hyde returned to their
home in Downer's Grove, Illinois.
They were accompanied by Burton's
sister, Barbara, who will make her
home with an older sister and enter
high school there.
HERE FROM SOUTH DAKOTA
From Monday's Daily
Mr. and Mrs. Emmons Holy and
family, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota,
spent the week-end here at the home
of Mr. Holy's father, James Holy,
Sr., and family, returning this eve
ning to their home. Mr. Holy is en
gaged In the upholstery business at
Sioux Falls and where he has been
quite successful.
Mrs. Claude Iske. well known
young woman of near LaPlatte, died
last night at the family home on the
farm west of LaPlatte.
Death followed the birth of a
child.
The funeral services will be held
at 2 o'clock Friday at LaPlatte and
the Interment In the cemetery there.
The deceased lady was a sister-in-law
of Lloyd and Earl Iske of near
this city.

exhibit at the Nebraska state fair a j
very fine showing of pure bred reg-
istered Scotch collies, comprising the
mother, father and eight puppies of
