Sunday afternoon Sheriff Homer
Sylvester and Deputy Sheriff Cass
Sylvester returned home from their
trip to Childress, Texas, bringing
with them Earl Freeman, who is to
face forgery tharges in this county.
The officers left here Friday morn
ing and were on the road the greater

HUNDREDS ATTEND SERVICES
The funeral services of Fred H.
Gorder, former county commissioner,
were held on Tuesday afternoon at
the Congregational church at Weep
ing Waie-r, of which Mr. Gorder had
been a member for many years and
treasurer for the past eighteen years.
The church, auditorium, one of the
largest in the county, was filled to
its capacity by the friends from every
section of Cass county, coming to pay
their last respects to the old friend
and public servant.
Rev. George Hunt, pastor of the
church conducted the services and
in his sermon paid a glowing tribute
to the well spent life of Mr. Gorder
now gone to his rest.
During the service the mixed quar
tet gave the hymn, "Take Time to Be
Holy" and Duane Harmon gave a
very beautiful solo number, "One
Sweetly Solemn Thought."
The interment was at Oakwood
cemetery and at the grave a male
(quartet composed of F. A. Cloidt,
R. C. Cook, L.. D. Hiatt and L,. J.
Minor sang, "Now the Day Is O'er."
The pall bearers were from the old

The chanters of the choru3 of Tan
gier Temple Shriners of Omaha, are
to pay a visit to the city, word re
ceived by W. F. Evers, superintend
ent of the Masonic Home states.
This well known musical organ
ization will pay a visit to the Ne
braska Masonic Home on Sunday,
May 1st and will present a fine pro
gram for the benefit of the residents
of the Home and the public as well.
The music lovers of the city are

From Tuesday's Dally
Last evening the employes of the
Iowa-Nebraska Light & Power Co.,
I were entertained at luncheon at the
Stewart cafe, there being represen
tatives from all sections of the dis
trict here.
Frank Emery, of the head offices
of the company at Lincoln, was the
main speaker and gave a very inter
esting talk and as well as showing
slides of the various lines of the
work.
RETURN FROM VACATION
Mr. and Mrs. John P. Sattler, Jr.,
returned home Saturday night from a
motor trip through the south which
took thern to the gulf coast country
and with visits at Hot Springs,
Arkansas, and New Orleans. On their
return north they spent several days
at Teoria. Illinois, at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Ilarley Decker and also
visited old friends of the Sattler fam
ily at Pekin.
GO TO FREMONT

This evening Mr. and Mrs. W. A.
Robertson, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Evers
and L. W. Niel will visit at Fremont
where the gentlemen will attend a
meeting of .Knights Templar com
mandery officers. Mr. Robertson is
grand senior warden of the Nebraska
grand commandery.

the invitation meet of that schooL
This was the first competitive tests
of the locals and several of the mem
bers made excellent showings.
Warren Reed showed class in the
racing events being first in the 100
yard dash, time 10.7 and took first
in the 220 in 22.1, showing a fast
field to his foes.
John Jacobs also showed well in
the tryouts, winning first in the
broad jump, 18 ft. 11 inches and was
second in the olw hurdles.
Joe York was also one of the bright
star3 on the Platter squad by taking
the high jump with 5 ft. 4 in.
Allan White, who showed well last
season took the high hurdles and
also was in the 100 yard dash and
the 220.
ATTEND FUNERAL SERVICE
Mr. and Mrs. W. II. Porter of
Union and Mr. and Mrs. John T.
Porter of this city were at Lincoln
Monday to attend the funeral ser
vices of C. L. Van Petten, a brother-in-law
of the Messers Porter.
EAGLES VISIT LINCOLN
The Fraternal Order of Eagles of
Nebraska staged a large meeting at
Lincoln Tuesday night and at which
a class of 150 was received in the
order, known as the "White Spot
Class."
There was a very large number
from the various aeries of the state
and Plattsmouth wa3 well represent
ed by a fine delegation headed by
Past State Worthy President W. M.
Barclay.
Representatives of the grand aerie
were in attendance as well as Judge
A. B. Duncan, of St. Joseph, Missouri,
past grand worthy president and one
of the leaders of the national organ
ization. The Fremont drill team, winner
of first place in the national contest,
was present to confer the work.
HERE FROM ARAPAHOE
Mr. and Mrs. Charles A. Patter
son of Arapahoe, Nebraska, are here
to enjoy a visit at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. R. F. Patterson and Mr. and
Mrs. T. M. Patterson and are also
house guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. O.
Minor, Mr. Patterson being an uncle
of Mrs Minor.
JOE HENDRIX IN PLAY

more at Doane College, Crete, was
selected a member of the cast of the
Dcane Players' last production of
the year, "R. U. R." The play, writ
ten by Karel Capek. includes a cast
of twelve and is under the direction
of Mrs. Lucille Deals Aron.
