Says Wolves Plentiful
Lacey McDonald reports seeing a
total of -eight wolves in one day
while making the rounds of his mail
route. The increasing number of
these barnyard marauders is causing
concern among the farmers who have
chickens, pigs or Iambs and makes it
imperative that something be done to
get rid of them. It was thought a
wolf hunt would prove effective and
preliminary arrangements made for
holding one only to learn that much
of the territory it was planned to
comb constitutes the game preserve
that has been established in this
vicinity and that tinder no condi
tion would hunting be allowed by
the state.
The east line of the game preserve
is the road running north and south
by the Callahan church and it is in
this very territory that the greatest
number of wolves are believed to
have taken refuge.
Just what will be done further to
clean out the wolves is uncertain.

Found Pavement Plenty Slick
L. F. Fitch started out for Omaha
Tuesday morning when the fog was
thickness. He made pretty fair pro
gress till he arrived at the Murray
corner and drove onto the concrete
pavement, which was very slippery.
Thinking he might be going a little
too fast, he stepped on the brakes
and round his car spun as he barely
avoided going into? a ditch at the
side of the road. So he decided to
turn around and come back to Elm
wood, which he did. The pavement
has been plenty slick this past week,
with fog and sleet prevailing much
of the time and it docs not pay to
venture around too ranch unless one
just has to make a trip, for there
have been a good many serious ac
cidents. Suffered Fractured Ankle
Last Thursday evening as Mrs.
Herman Penterman was en route to
the post office she stepped into a
depressioji that caused her to fall,
fracturing her ankle. The broken
bones were reset and she was put to
bed. So many of her friends have
called that there is some one there
most of the time and at one time
there were sixteen ladies present, all
wanting to know if there was any
thing they could do to make her more
comfortable or assist with her work.

number of the members being pres

L. F. Uley, who has made his
home alone, and who suffered a
stroke some two weeks ago, was
taken to the home of his son at
Louisville last Sunday morning. He
will be able to receive much better
care there and his friends hope he
will recover his health.

funeral was delayed until their ar-
rival. They returned home Thursday
after a very arduous trip. The deceas
ed was SO years old and is survived
by nine children, all grown and many
with families of their own.
Entertainment at Churches
Friday evening of last week there
was a very fine Christmas program
presented at the Methodist church,
arranged by the ladies of the church
and the Bible school. After the pro
gram, Santa Clans made his appear
ance with treats for all the children.
The attendance was large.
At the Christian church the exer
cises were held the Sunday evening
before Christinas, with a tree, and a
visit from Santa Clans who had a
gift sack for all the kiddies.
The program at the Evangelical
church was held Thursday evening,
comprising a pageant that was most
beautifully presented. Santa put in
his appearance there and distributed
gifts from the large and beautifully
decorated tree.
Thus Elmwood had her full share
of Christmas programs, all well ren
dered and doing much to keep before?
the public the beautiful story of old
when the Christ child was born in
a in anger.
