"ALOHA" WILL NEVER DIE,
SAYS HAWAIIAN SOLOIST
HONOLULU (UP) Lizzie Alohi
kea, soloist with the Royal Hawaiian
band, estimates that during the past
two decades she has sung Aloha Oe
and Xa ei o Hawaii (Song of the
Islands) more than 10,000 times.
She recently gave her farewell con
cert with the band to which she had
been attached 23 years.
She has had words of appreciation
from President Roosevelt, the duke
of Windsor (when he was the prince
of Wales), the crown prince of Swe
den, the crown prince of Japan and
hundreds of operatic stars and other
celebrities on the occasion of their
visits to the islands.
She is convinced the two songs will
never die, as they express the Bpirit of
the islands more than anything else
FINED FOR RECEXESS DRIVING
Charles" Hustead. giving his home
as Falls City, drew a line of $25 and
'costs Saturday afternoon iu the coun
ty court on a charge of reckless driv
ing. Hustead is the man, who drove
tha Riii-Hnetfin railroad
yards and had it stranded among the
tracks of the upper yard. He first
claimed that a soldier had driven the
car there but later two men who had
slept in one of the box cars along the
tracks, came forward with the story
that Hustead himself had driven the
car there and no one was with him.

Charles Gregory, who claims Bride
port, Connecticut, as his home, was
in the city Monday on another of his
bicycle tours of the United States and
is still going strong. He has just re
turned from a trip to the west coast
and Is now on his way to the south.
He carries with him books of clip
pings of his tours and of the news
paper comments that are made of his
Journeys over the country.
After a short stay here Gregory
pedaled the old wheel to Nebraska
City and from where he will con
tinue on to the southland and warmer
weather.
The Are department was called
Sunday afternoon to South Sth street,
a chimney fire at a residence occu
pied by the Taylor family having
made necessary an alarm. The fire
was extinguished without any ser
ious damage.
Bob Richardson of this city i3 to
be featured on the boxing card at
the South Omaha Eagle3 club house
on Friday night. Bob was on the bill
last week and won handily by the
K.O. route over his opponent. His
excellent showing has caused him to
be a favorite with the fans at Omaha
and a demand that he again take
part in the boxing show.

I F. J. Fitch, former justice oi me

in the city today. Mr. Fitch states
that the article in which it was
stated that II. C. Mehlig. arrested on
a bad check charge, had been con
nected with hi3 court was not true.
Mr. Fitch wishes it clearly under
stood that Mehlig had no connection
with him.
HAVE NEW DAUGHTER
Miss Maxine Cloidt. v5o was here
over the Thanksgiving holiday with
her parents, returned Sunday to her
teaching wcrk at McCook. She was
taken to Lincoln by Mr. and Mrs.
Cloidt and Frances and from there
made the return trip over the Burlington.
VISIT WITH RELATIVES
Ralph Amick, of Detroit, Michigan,
returned home Saturday after a visit
here in Nebraska with his relatives.
He was a visitor over Thanksgiving
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Theo
dore Amick at Nelson, Nebraska, and
on his return stopped here to visit
his sister, Mrs. Merdith Chancellor
and family.

SUFFERS INJURED FOOT
Mr. and Mrs. Glen Larson are the
parents of a fine four pound daugh
ter that was born to them at the hos
pital at Omaha on Thanksgiving. All
are reported a3 doing nicely.
William Armstrong, local high
school student, is on crutches as tile
result of an accident that he suffered
while playing with some companions.
The boys were playing some sand lot
football and Bill who has not been
playing a great deal this summer had
his ankle injured.

in mid-air with a well-aimed hat.
PORTLAND CAPTAIN DIES
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 20 (UP)
Capt. Benjamin Dutton, commander
of the cruiser Portland, died of a
heart attack last night. He collapsed
in a Southgate cafe and was dead
before he was removed to an emer
gency hospital.
Capt. Dutton was born in Illinois
in 18S1.
