September -was much better than the
average. Jlore parents in Platt?
mouth are realizing: the necessity of
prompt attendance and we are very
glad to present this group of names

The report of the Plattsmouth pub
lic library for September shows that
2642 books were exchanged. The in
crease over August was 53 6 books
and the decrease over September 1936
was 314. C7 new borrowers were
added and 13 new books were pur
chased. The Children's Summer Reading
club was very successful. 73 com
pleted the required reading. They
were all taken to the picture show to
see Shirley Temple in "Wee Willie
Winkle." If you have never taken 73

The school banner contest is well

BEGINS 20-DAY SENTENCE
FALLS CITY, Neb., Oct. 13 (UP)
James Wyscarver of Falls City be
gan a 20-day sentence in county jail
on a simple assault charge today
after a more serious complaint al
leging assault with intent to commit
murder was withdrawn.
The serious charge was filed on
complaint of Wyscarver 's wife who
accused him of attempting to murder
her with a shotgun. The less severe
charge was filed reportedly after she
had left town.
TWENTY MILES UNPAVED
OMAHA, Oct. 12 (UP) John H.
Miller, Tulsa, Okla., president of U.
S. Highway 75 Association, said here
the 20-mile stretch between Dawson
and the Kansas line is the longest
unpaved portion of the entire high
way, which extends from Canada to
Mexico. Miller also said the only toll
bridge left on 75 is at Omaha.
SHANGHAI, Oct. 13 (UP) Hand
bills offering a "reward" of one yuan
(29 cents) to each Chinese soldier
surrendering to Japanese authorities
were dropped behind Chinese lines
today by Japanese airplanes.
The "offer" asked that those who
surrender bring with them one of the
handbills.
GRANT TAXI PERMIT
LINCOLN, Oct. 12 (UP) The
state railway commission today
granted Mrs. Elsa M. Pearsall au
thority to operate a taxi cab line in
Nebraska City. The line formerly
was operated by her husband who
died recently.
SNOW AT OMAHA
OMAHA. Oct. 13 (UP) Although
the weather bureau denied knowl
edge, snow flurries, the first of the
season fell intermittently here about
5 o'clock this morning. The snow de
veloped in the midst of a drizzle.
