NAVY TO STAY ON JOB
WASHINGTON, Sept. 24 (UP)
The Navy department announced to
day that American naval forces in
China will remain "until it is no
longer possible or necessary" to pro
tect American nationals in the zone
of hostilities.
The department announced that
Admiral Harry E. Yarnell, com
mander in chief of the Asiatic fleet
has Informed our vessels of the fleet
that the American policy during the
emergency will be to employ naval
forces "so as to offer all possible pro
tection and assistance to our nation
als in cases where needed.
The navy department admitted
that the policy may mean that naval
forces will at times be exposed to dan
ger but said:
"These risks must be accepted."

MEXICAN FAMILY BURNS
SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb., Sept. 25
(UP) Three small chidren were
burned to death and three others suf
fered severe burns in a fire which
destroyed a shack occupied by Mexi
can field workers five miles northeast
of Scottsbluff Friday. The dead were
a son of Pete Perez and two daugh
ters of Nick Reyes, an inmate of the
Nebraska penitentiary. Mr. and Mrs.
Perez were caring for them. The
older Perez girls and an older brother
also were burned. The dead children
ranged in age from 3 to 5.
V0GELER RESIGNS POST
LINCOLN, Sept. 23 (UP) Rudolf
F. Vogler today announced his resig
nation, effective October 1, as direc
tor of the Nebraska state employment
service at Baltimore. Vogeler has
been appointed supervisor of the Bal
timore field office of the division of
standards and research of the nation
el employment service. His successor
will be chosen by Governor Cochran
from a list of successful applicants
who took a merit examination for the
post last week.
DENIES MASSACRE
ROME, Sept. 25 (UP) The press
ministry issued a statement today
denying that Ethiopians had mas
sacred Italian residents of Makale as
reported in special dispatches which
originated in London.
"Nothing ever happened at Ma
kale to justify such reports." the min
istry said.
