Moved to Elmwood
The Rev. Hawkins, pastor of the
Christian church here, and his fam
ily, have now moved to Elmwood,
and are nicely located in the par
sonage. Rev. Hawkins conducted ser
vices for the first time last Sunday,
the church being well filled with
members who were pleased with the
first discourse of their new pastor,
and who seem willing to take hold
and assist with the work of the
church, which is what it takes to
keep things going and retain a pas
tor. We join in welcoming the new
minister and his family to Elmwood.
Rev. Fintell Returned Here
The people of Elmwood and espec

church are greatly pleased that the

Protecting Kasonic Temple
On account of a peculiar drain
age situation at the Masonic temple,
water seeps down beside the founda
tion walls in time of rain and makes
its way through the foundation. As
a result the basement is too damp
to be used and the foundation itself
is weakened. Steps have been taken
to remedy this situation, some of the
work having already been done, and
in this manner it is hoped to save
the building from material damage.
During the dry weather of the last
few years, the condition has not
been bad. and like the house of the
Arkansas Traveler, where the root
didn't need fixing whea it wasn't
raining, it was allowed to draw on
until now, when a well direrted ef
fort is being tirade to remedy it be
fore fall rains set in.
' Work on 0 Street Progressing
Journal readers will be interested
in knowing that the work of black
top paving the ten mile gap on the
O street highway in this vicinity is
progressing very nicely. The black
top base has been placed from Fort
George station west to the end of the
concrete slab, a distance of four
miles, and the grading is now com
pleted on the east six mile stretch,
insuring completion of the entire
project in the course of a few weeks,
and the road being open to traffic
this fall.
The detours have proven quite in
convenient also to local traffic, es
pecially in time of rain, but through
traffic from the north has been rout
ed through Murray and Elmwood,
thus giving them the advantage of
gravel all the way.
It will be a pleasure to have the
nighway open again, with an all
paved road into Lincoln.
Since the re-routing of U. S. 34
a great deal of transcontinental traf
fic has come this way, as many peo
ple from the east bound for an outr
ing in the west have desired to pass
through Lincoln and see our splen
did capitol building, which is one
of the outstanding ones in the en
tire nation. A glance at the visitors
register there shows people from a
dozen up to twenty and thirty dif
ferent states registered.
It is this loss of traffic and that
over l . b. .50, now routed through
Blair and Fremont that is irking
Omahans greatly.
