O. C. Hinds, several members ot
the Weeping Water council and a
business competitor interceded with
the State Liquor Control Commission
yesterday on behalf of E. A. Fisher,
whose Leer license was revoked July
2Sth.
The mayor told the commission
that the four beer taverns were per
mitted to rmeain open for a short
time on Sunday morning, July 4,
while the Fourth of July celebrants
were present, although the village
has an ordinance forbidding Sunday
sales.
A commission agent purchased
beer at Fisher's place that day. Fish
er at his, hearing said discrimination
was shown against him. Mayor Hinds
said he was sure Fisher would up

NEBRASKA PLANS APPROVED
FOR ASSISTANCE TO NEEDY
PHEASANT SEASON SET
WASHINGTON, Aug. 17 (UP)
The Social Security board today ap
proved Nebraska's revised plans for
assistance to the needy aged, needy
blind, and dependent children. It also
asked a $560,778 appropriation for
carrying out those plans during the
period from July 1 to December 30.
The board described the program as
placing public assistance in Nebras
ka on a permanent basis and as pro
viding for a "more efficient adminis.
tration."
One of the 34 states participating
in all three branches of public assist
ance and one of the first to enact leg
islation to those ends, Nebraska now
has on its rolls 27,200 aged, 5C0
blind, and 10.900 dependent chil
dren. The federal government's con
tribution is $400,602 for the aged,
$151,374 for children, and $8,797
dependent children. State funds,
without local contributions, will
match the federal amount.

MARRIED AT COURT HOUSE
LINCOLN, Aug. 17 (UP) The
state game commission today fixed a
ten day open season on pheasants
October 17 to 2C and for the first time
opened the entire state to hunting
The dailv has: and possession was
raised from four to five birds and two
may be hens.
Last year there was only a seven
day season permitted in thirty-six
counties and parts of two others.
"At first conclusion it may be seen
that this will permit the killing of
many more birds than when only a
section of the state is open," said the
commission.
"On the contrary, opening of the
entire state will lessen the entire kill
because will not be concentrated."
Huntsmen will be asked not
hunt where birds are scarce.

Poultry lllanied
I was just talking with Omaha Poul
try Buyers, who tell me that Poultry
receipts have increased many times
in last few days and most of them
have lowered their prices from 1
to 2c. per pound. Wholesale prices
of meat were also about 4c a pound
lower yesterday, so in sympathy
with the above it looks like Poultry
prices may decline some. For Friday
and Saturday, we will continue to
pay the following CASH prices:
