Famous Dionne Quins

Enjoying Their Fourth Summer
The five niost-talked-about little
girls in the world, the Dionne Quins
are enjoying their fourth summer in
splendid manner. To make their sur
roundings more pleasant a great deal
ot landscaping and planting was
done during the past fall and spring.
Landscaping around the "Dionne Do
main" presented quite a problem as
seeded grass will not grow. The land
i3 so rocky and sandy that it was
necessary to sod the playground. The
grounds were enlarged considerably
over last year, and already the rec
ord cf 4 50,000 visitors made last
year, has been exceeded.
Although last summer, the ther
mometer, mounted to 9 6 degrees in
that nominally cooler climate, the
healthy little Dionne girls had no
ill effects or summer complaints.
The medical staff allows them to
have no cold drinks or cold food that
will shock their tender stomachs.
Even the water, which comes from
the well deeply drilled expressly for
the Quins is not given the children
until it moderates to room tempera
ture. Milk is properly pasteurized
and all vegetables are carefully
washed before being cooked. It is
the Dionne Quin staff of advisors
which is largely responsible for the
good health of the Quins.
It is they who exercise such great
care in the selection of their food
and it is they who chose Quaker
Oats for the Quins' cereal. Oatmeal
is recognized as a wonderful source
of that precious three-purpose vita
man. Vitamin B for combating ner
vousness, constipation and poor ap
petite, due ,to lack of the vitamin.
And, too, oatmeal with milk fur
nishes a fine source of body-building
minerals, muscle - building protein
and energy-making carbohydrates.

Dr. and Mrs. Emmett Dunn of West
Frankfort,, Illinois, are in the city
as guests at the home of City Treas
urer and Mrs. M. D. Brown. They
have been visiting in the west and
stopped here ror a visit with the
Brown family, Mrs. Brown being a
sister of Dr. Dunn. While here they
also had the pleasure of a visit with
Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Peterson and
family of Mora, Minnesota, who are
guests at the Brown home.

don't need to go near the stove
Even the very youngest cooks can
master these sweets made with sweet
ened condensed milk. They are lit
erally failure proof if you use this
magic milk. A creamy smooth fon
dant can be made in five minutes
and doesn't need to "ripen." The
children can enjoy the fruits or their
triumph right away.
Cocoa Patties
U oup cocoa
cup confectioners' (4X) sugar
2 tablespoons butter
U cup sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Nut meats'
Sift together cpcoa and confection
ers' sugar. Moisten with butter,
sweetened condensed milk and vanil
la. Blend thoroughly. Drop by tea-
spoonsful onto marble slab or plate, j
rress nut meat in top of each. Al
low to stand in cool place until
firm. Makes about 24.
Orange Cocoa Balls
2 cups confectioners' (4X) sugar
U cup sweetened condensed milk
2 teaspoons orange juice
2 teaspoons grated orange rind
1 cup shredded cocoanut
Measure sugar after sifting; blend
with sweetened condensed milk, or
ange juice and orange rind. Drop by
spoonfuls into shredded cocoanut;
roll in small balls. Chill in refrigera
tor or cool place for several hours.

The Missouri river at ths point is
showing a small fall after several
weeks of high stage, William Grebe,
well known fisherman, reports. The
river has fallen some five inches in
the past twenty-four hours.
This year there has been five dis
tinct rises in the river and which is
unusual for so late in the year as the
June rise is usually the peak of the
high water of the season.
The high condition of the river
has held back the completion of a
number of the river projects and kept
workmen idle.
HAS ATTRACTIVE WINDOW
The Parley furniture store has a
very attractive window arranged that
is a credit to any of the city display
windows "in the large furniture
stores.
The window has been arranged as
a modern living room with the win
dows and curtains, a fine overstuffed
set as well as telephone stand and
radio and magazine rack. The win
dow is one arranged in the utmost
good taste and coloring and is cer
tainly a very nice attraction to the
business section of the city.
RETURNS FROM THE WEST
Miss Maxine Cloidt, who has been
attending the summer session of the
University of Colorado, at Boulder,
returned home Sunday. Miss Cloidt
and Miss Florence Beighley, math
ematics teacher in the PJattsmouth
high school, have been taking special
educational work in the Colorado
school.
Miss Cloidt will later accompany
her parents to Battle Lake, Minne
sota, where they will spend a short
vacation.
