PLATTSMOUTH SEMI - WEEKLY JOURNAL THURSDAY, JULY 22, 1937. PAGE FOUH Weeping Water Henry Lemke has been painting the jewelry store, making it very tasty and neat after the work. Ralph Binger, who is employed in Lincoln was a visitor at the home of his parents in Weeping Water over the week end. G. It. Binger was called to Platts mouth last Friday where he was looking after some business matters for a short time. E. L. McCartney was called to Om aha last Friday to look after some business, also stopping in Platts mouth for a short time. Dennis Phillips was in Elmwood visiting for a few days at the home of his son, Harry Phillips and family enjoying a very pleasant visit, ar riving home last Thursday. Wallie C. Johnson of Friend was visiting in Weeping Water for a time and also was called to Omaha to look lifter some business in connection! with his movie show at Friend. E. L. McCartney, who conducts a barber shop under the amusement parlor, has been having the room newly painted and papered. The work was done by Messrs. Bobbitt and Henega r. Messrs. Henegar and Bobbitt were in Omaha as well as Nebraska City where they were looking after busi ness in their line. They also stop ped at Plattsmouth to look after some business matters. Mrs. John E. Johnson was passing her birthday on Monday of this week and on the occasion the daughter,! Anna, gave the mother a birthday surprise party at which a large num ber of friends were present. A most merry time was had. Mr. and Mrs. James H. Miller of near Murray with their little daugh ter were over to Weeping Water last Sunday where they were attending the Danish Sisterhood Ladies' Aid and also took P. H. Miller with them to the picnic at Baker Grove. J. C. Sjhwers who ha.i been mak ing his home in the eastern portion of Weeping Water last Tuesday moved to the Teegarden place, a short distance west of his implement business, thus making it handy for Bible School Sunday, July 25th "God Prepares a People" Ex. 12.21-2S. It was a deep laid plan of God to prepare a nation through which he could reveal his love for man, and bring about the redemption of the human race. God was very careful in selecting men of deep piety, strong faith and an earnest desire to serve him; their descendance, in order to keep them from entanglements with the heathen races dwelling in Canaan sent them into Egypt, where they lived for 413 years and multiplied in this time from seventy souls to about 3,000,000. During this time, they lived on the traditions delivered to them from the patriarchs, in the hope of fulfillment of the promise made to the fathers. Their know ledge of God was very meager de ficient, hence the schooling they went through, from the day that Moses and Aaron came to them to tell them that God had heard their cry and would bring them out of bondage by a high hand. The period of negotiating with Pharaoh regard ing the release of the Israelites, the people got a proper understanding of the God, under whose protection they went to live, and whom they were to make known to the world. In the course of preparation they learned to know God in his might and power, in his love and mercy. Then they learned that we are not re deemed by character, or by good works, or heredity but by sacri fice, by the shedding of blood, the blood of God's only holy son. In the ten plagues, visited upon Tharoah and the Egyptians, while the Israelites were exempted, they learned to fear and trust God. While the first four plagues had no effect on the King he stubbornly refused to listen to God he hardened his heart; after this God hardened his heart. In like manner God deals with man today; there comes a-time when God says: "My spirit shall not always strive with men." (Gen. 6:6). See the consequences when God's spirit departs from a man, as we read in I Sam. 16:14: "But the spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord troubled him." The ten plagues should be memorized, and their effect on man and beast noted. They are: 1 Rod-serpeut ; 2 Water-Wood ; 3 Frogs; 4 Dust-lice; 5 Flies mosquitoes; 6 Murrain-contagious; 7 Ashes-boils; S Hail, thunder and pestilence; 9 Locusts; 10 Three him, as the home and business are now near together. Herbie Kuntz. the blacksmith of Nehawka, has been troubled with his tonsils for some time and so had them removed which kept him from working. So John E. Johnson went over to Nehawka and helped his brother workman out nutil his throat should be well again. Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Davis were over to Seward last Thursday, attending the funeral of the late Andrew Mor row who passed away at Gracie, Ne braska last week at the age of 60 vears. Mr. Morrow was a cousin of Mr. Davis and will be remembered by many of the older citizens in the eastern part of Cass county. Hallas Akin and w ife were down in Missouri tor a number of days dur ing last and this week, their trip extending over the week-end. They went to Dunnegan, Mo., where they picked up Mrs. Mat Akin who had been visiting there for the past month and making a tour through the lower portion of Missouri and northern Ar kansas. They returned home Tuesday evening. Mr. Akin reports very line crops in Missouri and Arkansas. Celebrate Anniversary. The members ot tlie Ladies Aid of the Danish Sisterhood were gathered together at the Baker grove south of Weening Water last Sunday where they enjoyed an outing and picnic dinner as well as looking after the business of the organization. The members in the late afternoon had to hasten to their homes when the rain came and broke up the picnic. Waterlogged in Plattsmouth. Mr. and Mrs. K. W. Boyd were in Omaha last Sunday visiting at the home of the uncle of Mrs. Boyd, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Anderson, enjoying a good visit and returning just at the right time to get marooned in the streets of Plattsmouth when the water was highest following the Sun day evening downpour. Enjoyed Picnic Sunday. Miss Olive Marie- Iviaubnde of Blair has been visiting for the past week or more at the home of Mr. and Mjs. Elmer Mkhelsen and with the family Lesson Study! By L. Neitzel, Murdock, Neb. days of darkness. The slaying of the first-born was a direct act of God. Before this last act takes place, the people are in structed regarding the feast of the passover; the selecting of the lamb; the preparation; the number at the meal; the readiness to go; the use of the blood. This is the most sig nificant part for the blood means death a sacrifice in the blood is life under the blood safety. So we sing: What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. What can make me wholly clean? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. O precious is the flow, It makes me white as snow, No other fount I know. Nothing but the blood cf Jesus." The whole doctrine of the atone ment is involved in the slaying of the paschal lamb. It is a pity that we never hear a sermon on that theme, which is so vital to man's sal vation. At last the passover is eaten, the people have collected their "wages" from the Egyptians, all are ready the zero hour approaches soon the cry is heard here and there from Egyptian homes of the death of the first born soon all of Egypt is in a fearful uproar the King is awaken ed. When he sees and hears what has happened, he calls for Moses and Aaron to get out of his country with all they have, and at last his spirit is broken. "Pray for me," is his last request y them. Never in the his- tory of the world has a movement like this taken place. The facts of these acts are so well authenticated that record of the Bible cannot be doubted. The analogy of the pass over is given to us by St. Paul in I Cor. 5:7. By the institution of the passover, Israel was redeemed from bondage in Egypt, but by the sacrifice of the Lamb of God Jesus Christ, all mankind is redeemed from the power of sin and satan. As man applies the blood of Christ, as the Israelites did, man is safe from 'the wrath and judgment of God to be visited upon all that will not be obedient. No Israelite was slain on whose door the blood was found. "There is power in the blood." The neglect of applying the blood meant death. "How shall we escape, if we neglect so great a salvation.? " "Trust and obey; there's no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey." and Mr. and Mrs. Ross Shield went to Louisville where they with the families of Carl Christensen and Lois Reese enjoyed a picnic on the banks of the Platte river during the day. The storm however came up on the party. They hastened to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Christensen where they remained during the storm which lr.sted for three hours. Changing Location of Pumps. J. F. Knecht of South Bend, who furnishes gasoline and oil for the Farmers Grain company, who also conducts a supply pump for gasoline at the warehouse was over from his town last Tuesday to look after the changing of the pumps to a location near the office and where formerly the scale was. George Dennis and a crew of assistants were making the change. A new measuring pump is being installed which has a comput ing system, thus making the service to the customers more convenient to tlie vendors of the gas. Says Business Is Good. Ole Olson, the stone man, who has contracted for a number of deliveries of stone, is being kept busy supply ing them. One customer is having sugar stone shipped to Kansas City. Another buyer is the Louisville ce ment plant, also suplying stone for Grand Island. Mary Allen Doing- Nicely. Mary Allen, 13, who with her mother returned from their stay at Yellowstone park where Mary was at tacked by a cross bear, having one of her legs badly bitten, since returning home has been getting along very nicely, which is good news to her many friends. Visit Son in Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. A. 11. Jones were in Lincoln last Sundty to visit for the day at the home of their son, Clif ford Jones and wife, but on their ar rival found that Mrs. Clifford Jones had been visiting in Chicago for a few days and will remain for a few days longer.
