Named as New
District Judge
Former Supreme Court Commissioner
of Nebraska City Receives
Appointment Friday.
Governor It. L. Cochran Friday eve
ning at Lincoln announced that he
had made the appointment of W. W.
Wilson of Nebraska City as judge
of the second judicial district, suc
ceeding: the late Judge W. O. Kieck.
Judge Wilson is well known In the
district as he has been one of the
prominent members of the Otoe coun
ty bar and has previously been sug
gested for the judgeship.
The new judge was born in Otoe
county and has made his home there

for his lifetime. He graduated from
the University of Nebraska college of
law and while a student there was
an associate of former Governor Ar
thur J. Weaver and the late George
II. Dern, former secretary of war.
Judge Wilson commenced the ac
tive practice of law at Nebraska City
in 1896 and has been very prominent
in the profession since that time. He
has served as city attorney of Ne
braska City for five years, was the
county attorney of Otoe county for
four years and served as county judge
of that county over a six year period.
Judge Wilson served three terms
as a member of the Nebraska supreme
court commission, being first select
ed in 1925 and again in 1927 and
1929, or until the commission was
abolished by law.
The new Judge conies to the bench
with these years of experience as a
jurist that should enable him to give
the people of the district a very effi
cient service on the bench.
Since his retirement from the su
preme court commission Judge Wil
son has been engaged in private prac
tice and is at the present time the
attorney for the Home Owners Lean
corporation, one of the new govern
mental departments.

Back to school
One of 'the few children who escaped uninjured in the blast whicfc
wrecked the New London, Tex., school, killing more than 450 pupil,

MRS. HUMPE AT REST

Funeral services were held from
the Splain, Schnell and Griffith mor
tuary In Lincoln for Mrs. J. II. Humpe
yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
Four grandsons, John and Billy Gay
er of Plattsmouth and Robert and
John Kenry Hiltner of Lincoln, a
son-in-law, H. L. Gayer of Platts
mouth, and a close friend, Harry
Morris of Blair were pall bearers.
Interment was in Lincoln.
Mrs. Humpe was born in 1S57 in
Butler county. Ohio. While a small
child, the family moved to Richmond,
Ind., where she grew to womanhood.
She was married in 1884 to J. II.
Humpe and the couple came to Ne
braska to settle at Lincoln.
Mrs. Humpe was active in organ
ization of the Y.W.C.A. organization
in Lincoln. Her name followed her
husband's as the first charter mem
bers of the Grach Lutheran church
of Lincoln. She also devoted a great
deal of time to her P.E.O. and Eastern
Star chapters.
Bedfast for fourteen montli3, death
came, as a kindly relief from suffer
ing. She leaves her two daughters.
Mrs. H. L. Gayer of Plattsmouth and
Mrs. Hiltner of Lincoln and seven
grandchildren, John, Billy, Mary and
Betty Gayer of Plattsmouth and Rob
ert, John Henry, and Rosemary Hilt
ner of Lincoln. One sister also sur
vives, Mrs. O. P. Gaar of Richmond.
