Dr. and Mrs. L. D. Lee drove to

Mr. and Mrs. Henry A. Tool were
guests at the home of their son,
Kenneth Tool and wife, of Wahoo,
Christmas day.
Little Dona Rae Thom-, who has
been quite sick the past week, is
reported much improved and able to
be about again.
Merideth Weddell, who is employ
ed in Lincoln, was enjoying Christ
mas day at the home of his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Weddell.
Sheriff Homer Sylvester and his
brother, Cass, who is deputy, were
in Murdock the fore part of last
weelr, looking after business mat
ters.
Henry Amgwert, wife and son
were in Omaha Christmas day, be
ing guests at the home of a sister
of Mr. Amgwert, Mrs. L. A. Watson
and husband.
Mrs. Alvin Bornemeier and young
son Don were visiting for the past
week at the home of the parents of
Mrs. Bornemeier, Mr. and Mrs. Seik
jost, of Eustis.
Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Jones, of
near South Bend, were' guests ovr
Christmas at the home of Mrs. Jones'

ey, where all enjoyed a splendid
Christmas dinner.
Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Tool and their
pen. Prof. Douglas Tool, who is home
fron- his school work at Atlanta,
spent Christmas day in Omaha at the
borne of their daughter and husband.

Dr. C. J. Farmanack, the new:
physician who succeeds Dr. L. D. Lee.
in order to keep in touch with the
march of events, has arranged to
have the Plattsmouth Journal visit'
his office twice weekly during the i
coming year.
That jovial old bird, the stork,
has been making frequent trips to
this vicinity of late, his last visit
being at the home of A. C. Ilinkle,
where he left a very fine little baby
girl, weighing b pounds. Mothei
and daughter doing nicely.
Mrs. Dan Panska spent several
days in Lincoln as a guest of two
of l.er aunts, who reside there. On
her return, she was accompanied by
her daughter, who is attending the
University of Nebraska, but comes
home for the Christmas vacation.
Mr. and Mrs. William Rikli, who
have been married twenty-five years,
enjoyed an anniversary dinner at
their home Sunday. December 27.
Their son. Albert, who is employed
in Enid, Oklahoma, arrived the lat
ter part of the week and was able
to be present at this anniversary
celebration.
Reported Improving
Mrs. O. II. Robson, daughter of
Edward Gannaway, who was serious
ly ill and was forced to undergo an
operation at a Lincoln hospital re
cently, is now reported as being on
the road to recovery.
Murdock Wins at Basket Rail
In a double game which was stag
ed last Tuesday evening between the
basketball teams of Murdock and
Greenwood, at the Murodck gym. the
local team won over the visitors by
a score of 19 to 11 and the Mur
dock Reserves won their game by
a score of 15 to S.
Enjoyed Christmas Together
Mrs. Hannah McDonald and Mr.
and Mrs. W. J. McDonald entertain
ed at their home in Murdock on
Christmas day, when they were Lost
and hostess to the other members of
the family, who were gathered to
celebrate the occasion. A sumptuous
dinner was served. Among those who
were present besides Mrs. Hannah
McDonald and the family of Mr. and
Mrs. W. J. McDonald, the host and
hostesses, were Lacey McDonald and
family, of Murdock; C.ayle McDon
ald and family of Hampton; Harry
Gillespie and wife of North Loup;
Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Thimgan and
son Larry and Mr. and Mrs. Lester
Thimgan, of Plattsmouth.
Entertained the Family
Mr.-and Mrs. Charles Kupke enter
tained at their home for'the day and
dinner last Sunday, having as their
guests for the occasion the entire
family, consisting of Mr. and Mrs.
Martin Bohlson and kiddies, of Om
aha; Carl Kupke and family of near
Greenwood and Albert Kupke and
Gust Kupke and families who live in
the country.
Home from Hospital
Mrs. Henry Timm. Jr., who ha3
been at the hospital in Lincoln for

some time, where she underwent an
operation for the removal of gall
stones, was able to return home last
week. Walter Thimgan went over
and with the husband brought Mrs.
Timm home. It is hoped she will con
tinue to improve and be able to re
sume her usual activities soon.
For Benefit of Fire Department
The Murdock Volunteer Fire de
partment is composed of a group of
citizens who are ready and willing to
answer fire calls and do everything
possible night or day to save property
that may be in danger of destruc
tion. Not only; does their service in
clude the town, but the adjoining
countryside as well and they have
special equipment for fighting fires
where water service is not available.
They hope to further increase their
equipment and to this end are giving
a benefit dance this coming New
Year's eve and will use the money
derived therefrom to buy supplies.
The boys are deserving of every
success and we trust the public will
turn out en mass.? at this dance to
aid the cause and incidentally enjoy
a good time themselves.
Tots Give Interesting: Program
The scholars of the first and sec
ond grades gave a very fine program
last Wednesday afternoon to mark the
close of school for the Chrjstmas
holidays. Following the program,
there was an exchange of gifts, with
the teachers included among those
who received remembrances. Treats
of candy were also provided for the
little ones. Chester Elseman acted
as substitute for Santa Claus and
gave out the present and treats.
With the closing of school until
Monday, January 4th, the teachers
also received from Santa Claus their
pay checks and were thus able to
start out for their respective homos
with an abundance of funds to help
make this a merry Christmas.
The program was well rendered
and a most pleasant time was had
by all.
A Delayed Celebration
The home of Mr. and Mrs. Albert
Straich was the scene of a very mer
ry gathering Saturday night, when
a postponed Christmas celebration
was held. The entire family was
able to be present upon this occasion,
consisting of Martin Straich and
funnily, Gustav Straich and family
William Straich and family and Joy
Miller and family, the latter from
near Elmwood.
Bought Their Supplies at Home
The local committees of the Mur
dock and Louisville churches in
their preparation for the evening's
programs held on Christmas eve,
purchased their candy and other
treats from local merchants, which
was a very proper thing to do.
Held Annual Christmas Party
The church known as the Louis
ville Evangelical church and located
east of town on the section road,
held its annual Christmas party at
the beautiful country home of Mr.
and Mrs. Herman F. Schweppe. Gifts
were exchanged and an excellent
program was rendered.
Mrs. August Panska Entertained
Mrs. August Panska entertained at
her home in Murdock on Christmas
day, having as a guest her son,
Daniel Panska and family of near
Murdock, and the family of R. L.
Panska of near Elmwood. A boun
teous Christmas dinner was served,
and the spirit of the season was very
much in evidence as the children and
their families came home to enjey
the holidays with the mother and
grandmother.
Have a Surprise.
Last Thursday evening after the
Christmas program given by the Cal
lahan young people, Rev. F. C. Weber
and Mrs. Weber were invited to the
basement of the church where the
congregation had arranged a surprise
for them. Good things were piled all
around them by the men, and to top
it all out the ladies presented Mrs.
Weber with a moat beautiful quilt
with all the names of the ladies
stitched into it by loving hands. It
only shows the love and devotion of
a congregation which can never be
described in words.
TRUCKERS GET RAISE
Chicago. Two trucking unions
reached an agreement with the Cart
hage Exchange of Chicago for a
$1 500,000 boost in the annual wages
of about 10,000 drivers, beginning
Jan. 1.
COUNTY JXUB NEWS
Murray Home Study Club
"Why I Read the Bible" was the
lesson at the meeting of the Murray
Home Study club last week. Mrs.
Faris and Mrs. Gilmore presented the
lerson. The Christmas story of the
birth of Christ was also read from the
Bible by Mrs. Faris. Mrs. Margaret
Todd led the singing of Christmas
carols.
During the afternoon a gift ex
change was held. Mrs. Brendel and
Mrs. Shubert were present for the
first time this club year. Mrs. Bren
de! has been making her home in
Lincoln during the school year and
Mrs. Shubert is teaching.
The ladies also filled several bas
kets to be presented to the les3 for
tunate. A basket of fruit was also
sent to Mrs. Albert Young, a mem
ber of the club who is ill.
Twenty members and three guests
were present. Hostesses were Mrs.
C. D. Spangler and Mrs. Margaret
Todd. A covered dish luncheon was
served at noon. A small Christmas
tree was used as tiie centerpiece and
tall red tapers were near the ends.
Extension Clubs
Members of the Social Circle club
held an all-day meeting at the home
of Mrs. Tony Klimm with a covered
dish luncheon at noon. The meeting
was opened with the repetition of the
Lord's Traycr. Gifts from the cap
sule friends were opened. Mrs. Klimm
also presented gifts to each. The
project leaders presented the lesson
of the month.
Tuesday, December 15, the club
held an old fashioned taffy pull at the
community center. Corn was popped,
games played, and a general good
time enjoyed.
Mrs. George P.ornemier was hos
tess to the Elmv. ood Morning Glory
club at the December meeting.
Answers to roll call told when the
members first discovered there was
no Sunta Claus. The project leaders
presented the lesson o the month.
Assistant hostesses were Miss Rose
mary John and Mrs. John Hay. Plans
were made for the Family night the
loth of January.
Twenty-four attended the club's
Christmas party December 4. Mrs.
Joe Kunz opened the program with
a solo. Readings were given by Mrs.
John Hay and Mrs. Harry Ducks
worth. Mrs. Ed Hall interpreted
"The Night Before Christmas" while
Santa filled the stockings with home
made candy and presents. Lois Turn
er led games. The party was held at
the home of Mrs. Emil Bornemeier
with Mrs. Ed Hall and Mrs. Harry
Duckworth assisting.
JUDGE CHAPPEL HOLDS COURT
District Judge E. B. Chappel of the
Lancaster district court was here
Tuesday to hold a short session of
court.
There were a number of matters
to be taken up in clearing the docket
a far as possible and the court will
be here again on Thursday, Decem
ber 31 to hold court.
The court disposed of the follow
ing cases:

divorce. Dismissed without prejudice.
Minnie McCrary vs. 1'. A. McCrary,

CALLED ON SAD MISSION
Former Mayor John P. Sattler,
John Lutz and Mrs. Katie Hild de
parted Thursday for Peoria, Illinois,
where they were called by the death
of Mrs. Sophia Heroic!, which took
place late Wednesday.
Mrs. Hild was a sister of the late
Tilrs. Sattler and Mrs. Lutz and an
aunt of Mrs. Hild. She spent her
lifetime in the vicinity of Pekin and
Peoria.
Mrs. Herold has been here a num
ber of times on visits during the
residence here of her son, Peter
Ilerold and family, making many
friends who will regret to learn of
her passing.
Peter Herold and sister, Mrs. Hart
ley, both of Omaha, have been with
the mother for several days, she hav
ing suffered a stroke a week ago and
has been gradually growing weaker
until death came.

FUNERAL OF MRS. WEBER
The funeral services for Mrs.
Veronica Weber were held on Thurs
day morning from the St. Mary's
Catholic church at Bellevue, where a
large group of the friends from this
city and Bellevue had gathered to
pay their last tributes.
The requiem high mass was cele
brated by Father O'Moran, of the St.
Columbians mission.
During the services John J. Cloidt
of this city gave two numbers,
"Mother Dearest Mother Fairest,"
and "Softly and Tenderly Jesus Is
Calling," Mrs. Cloidt being the ac
companist. The pall bearers were selected
from among the members of the fam
ily, the son, sons-in-law and grand
sons of Mrs. Weber, Frank A. Schiele,
Omaha; S. W. Stefan, Bellevue; W.
V. Weber, Aurora, Illinois; Henry
Stark John, Plattsmouth; Karl Stefan,
B?llevue; William Stark john, Platts
mouth. The interment was in the family
plot in Oak Hill cemetery beside the
husband and son who had preceded
Mrs. Weber in death.

A. E. EDGERTON HOME
A. E. Edgerton, head of the local
re-employment office, has returned
home from the hospital at Omaha
where he has been taking treatment
for some weeks. Mr. Edgerton is
still In very serious condition and
while at home is under constant care
and not receiving visitors. The many
friends of Mr. Edgerton will regret
very much to learn of his condition
and hope that he may be able to rally
and to once more resume his work.
