Nehawka
D. C. West was called to Omaha
last Monday to look after some busi
ness matters and drove over to the
big town in his auto.
Miss Lanna McReynolds, postmis
tress of Nehawka, was called to Om
aha last Monday to look after some
business matters for a short time.
Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Troop were
over to Plattsmouth last Monday
visiting with friends and as well
looking after some business matters.
Miss Doris Gregg, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Roy Gregg, departed for
Denver last Monday morning where
she will visit her sister for about a
month.
Cass Sylvester was looking after
some official business in Nehawka
last Monday morning and was col
lecting a number of slot machines
which have been operating contrary
to the law.
Miss Susanne Buskirk and brother,
Vincent, were out to the farm home
of Frank Reicke last Sunday where
they visited for the day and also
where Vincent enjoyed hunting squir
rels and was successful in bagging
three.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Geade of Una
dilla, Mr. Lawrence Kruger and fam
ily of Avoca, Harry Bucholtz and fam
ily of Avoca, George Bucholds and
wife of Nehawka, were guests at the
home of Mrs. Lyle Kruger for dinner
on Sunday.
Turns Corn Well.
Roy Gregg who had some corn the
past year, has kept it until last Satur
day and it being white corn and of
a very fair quality, he disposed of
It to the Norfolk Packing company
of Plattsmouth, shelling and deliver
ing it last Saturday, for which he
was able to receive $1.26. At the
same time he sent the boys out to
pick corn and on fourteen acres he
was able to get about fifteen bushels
of corn, not very good at that.
Mrs. Walters Doing Nicely.
The people of Nehawka, all friends
of Mrs. Henry W. Walters, wife of
Dr. Walters, are greatly rejoiced over
the return of Mrs. Walters from the
hospital and the hope which they en
tertain for her ultimate entire re
covery. Mrs. Walters has been very
sick for some time and has been at
a Lincoln hospital. She returned
home late last week.
Business Changes Hands.

disposed of his business, the amuse
ment parlor and beer tavern, the
work having been very exacting on
both of them. Mr. Anderson accepted
the proffer from Marius Nelson of
Avoca and the trade was made and
the business turned over to Mr. Nel
son last Monday.
Sowing Fifty Acres Wheat.
Nelson Berger who has heretofore
not grown much if any wheat, is this
year putting some fifty acres in win
ter wheat and believes it a good
proposition. As generally now wheat
sticks, and if it did not then the
ground could bo used for corn in
the spring and be in good condition
at that.
Enjoying Picking Potatoes.
Lyle Kruger and the crew of potato
pickers who are working near Idaho
Falls, Idaho, where they are harvest
ing potatoes, are still at the work
and ' are averaging some hundred
sacks per day for which the yre
ccive 6c per sack. They are ex
pecting to have about another week's
work which will end the harvest.
Visited in the Country.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Engelkemeier
entertained on last Sunday at their
country home northeast of Nehawka
and had as their guests for the occa
sion Mr. and Mrs. Albert Anderson
and son, Carl Meisinger and family,
Dan Anderson and family. The oc
casion combined a celebration of
birfhday and wedding anniversaries
and a joyous time was had by all.
Rev. Huitt and Wife Visit.
The Rev. Con Huitt, formerly min
ister of the United Brethren church
in Nehawka, but who has been away
for some time and was last year at
McCool Junction, but who was transr
ferred to Coatsfield, with the wife
were visiting in Nehawka, being
guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
A. G. Murdoch for the day. They
enjoyed the visit very much, seeing
many of the old time friends. Rev.
Huitt and wife were Just presented
with a new auto from the members
of the church which he serves.
Tobin Quarry Reopens.
Tho Tobin quarry, located on the
Rose farm which has been closed 'for
the past two weeks opened again on
Monday of this week, thus giving a
number of work again, which is hail
ed with pleasure.

Bedford Harvey has made the pur
chase of a 1929 Ford coupe.
Herbert Rush has treated himself
to a new Ford coupe, which he Is well
saisfied with.
O. G. Hillman and Harvey Rich
have purchased 1932 coupes of the
Anderson Chevrolet company.
Messrs. G. R. Binger and S. D. Let
ton were over to Lincoln last Tuesday
where they were called to look after
some business matters for a' short
time.
Wm. Patterson of Murray was visit
ing with his two brothers, A. J. Pat
terson and family and David Patter
son and family from last Sunday un
til Tuesday.
Miss Thelma Leesley of near
Greenwood was a visitor in Weeping
Water last Friday visiting with
friends and while here purchased a
1934 Chevrolet coupe.
Mr. and Mrs. W. O. Johnson were
over to Friend for the week end
where they visited C. W. Johnson and
wife and enjoyed the trip and visit
very much, arriving home Monday
evening.
Teter Miller, better known as Pete
has accepted a position with the Mis
souri Pacific railway and is working
on the tracks of the company, as are
also a number of others, who were
pleased to accept.
Dennis Oldham was in Omaha with
a load of cattle last Tuesday and
when he returned home was required
to unload a car load of Home Com
fort stoves which an agent has been
selling through the county.
Miss Donna Lee Baker, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Baker who is
the teacher of the Factoryville school
southwest of Union, was spending the
week end with her parents in Weep
ing Water. Miss Baker is meeting
with excellent success in her teach
ing. Holding Prayer Conference.
The third prayer conference of
the churches in Cass county is being
held at the Menonite church Wednes
day which was engaged in by
all the churches of the county. The
first was held some time ago at the
United Brethren church of Nehawka
and was made possible by the efforts
of the former minister of that church,
Rev. Otto Engebretson and the
churches have been pushing the mat
ter forward.' Two of. the principal
speakers of the conference are Rev.
Paul Bird of the Havelock taber
nacle and Rev. R. E. Stresler of the
Central tabernacle of Lincoln. There
was also a number of other speakers,

Hold Democratic Rally.
Last evening at the American Le
gion hall in Weeping Water a large
crowd of enthusiastic democrats was
present to do what was possible for
the ticket and the preservation of
the government for the people. Fred
Carsten, candidate for the legislature
was one of the speakers.
One Amusement Gone.
Last Monday the sheriff and de
puty were in Weeping Water as well
as other places in the county and ac
quired the slot machines which have
been operating. They had almost a
truck load of them. Three places in
Weeping Water, thought to have some
when searched none were found. One
kind was not taken on the first visit,
but the day following another visit
was made and these also had to go
along.
Visited Brother at Tekamah.
Stuart Rough of Nehawka came to
Weeping Water and taking with him
his sister, Miss Agnes Rough and Art
Rough and family, drove to Tekamah
last Sunday, where they visited at
the home of another brother, John
Rough, enjoying a nice visit and an
excellent dinner.
Visited at Ackley, Iowa.
Mrs. Fred Gorder was invited to
Ackley, Iowa, where as a girl she at
tended school and where she has an
aunt, Mrs. Leah Tool residing, so ac
cepted the invitation to a reunion of
the alumni of the school there as
well as taking advantage of the occa
sion to visit the aunt.
Enjoyed Visit Here.
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Ludwick, who
recenly moved here from Lorretta
was pleasantly surprised when his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Ludwick
and D. O. Dodge, parents of Mrs. Lud
wick arrived last Saturday and visit
ed over the week end, where all en
joyed the fine visit. They returned
to their home last Monday.
Truck Burns on 0 Street.
On Tuesday morning about
o'clock while George Hart of Lin

street and the road leading to Avoca,
an explosion occurred in the gas tank
and set the truck on fire. Mr. Hart
as soon as possible turned the truck
to the side of the road in an effort to
stop it and clear the highway, but
the ditch was deeper than he expect
ed and te truck upset. He had to
break the glass in the cab to get out.
He immediately hastened to the home
of Carl Tefft, notwithstanding he was
quite badly burned, to give the alarm.
In a short time a large crowd was at
the scene, but nothing could be done
with no means of lighting the fire.
The truck was loaded with paints.

sumed. Dr. J. W. Brendel gave treat
ment to the burns of Mr. Hart.
Home from Trip to Sea.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Keckler and
Bobbie who departed some time ago
and who went through Missouri, Illi
nois, Indiana, Kentucky, over into
Florida where they enjoyed the ocean,
driving along the east coast of Flor
ida through Georgia, South and North
Carolina and Virginia and up into
Pennsylvania, and enjoying every
foot of the trip. They have covered
most of the states of the union in
the past few years. Mr. Keckler no
tices that in most of the southern
states every station was for sale. But
not so in the north, although busi
ness was not extra good.
Visiting in California.
Tommy Dixon who has been em
ployed here with the railroad took a
vacation for thirty days and went to
California where he is spending the
month in Los Angeles with friends
and will remain until in November.
Water Bonds Lose.
In the election which was staged
last week in which it was desired to
issue bonds for the enlargement and
improvement of the city water sys
tem, a very closely contested canvass
was made and after the smoke had all
cleared away it was found that it re
quired more votes tomiake the neces
sary sixty percent of the votes cast,
and therefore the proposition was
lost. V
Will Address Brotherhood.
The committee having in hand the
program for the coming meeting of
the Methodist Brotherhood which will
be held at the basement of the church
the coming monday evening, with a
banquet, have been fortunate in se
curing Senator Fred L. Carsten to
make the principal address.

sociate ourselves together for the
purpose of forming a banking cor
poration as provided by the laws of
the State of Nebraska, and do adopt
the following Articles of Incorpora
tion: Article I The name of this cor
poration shall be UNION STATE
BANK.
Article II The principal place of
business of this corporation shall be
at Greenwood, County cf Cass, State
of Nebraska.
Article III The object for which
this corporation is formed is to carry
on a commercial banking business as
provided by the Laws of Nebraska.
Article IV The authorized capi
tal stock of this corporation shall be
$25,000.00, of which at least $10,
000.00 shall have been paid in at
the time of commencement of busi
ness, which shall be issued in shares
of .the par value of One Hundred
(100) Dollars each. No transfer of
the stock of this corporation shall
be operative until entered on the
books of the corporation.
Article V The indebtedness of
this corporation shall at no time ex
ceed the amount of its paid-in cap
ital and surplus except for deposits.
Article VI This corporation shall
begin business on the 1st day of July,
1936, or as soon thereafter as auth
orized by the Department of Bank
ing of the State of Nebraska, and
shall terminate on the 1st day of
July, 1966.
Article VIII The affairs of this
corporation shall be under the con
trol and management of a board of
directors consisting of not less than
three nor more than five share
holders, whose term of office shall be
for a period of one year, or until
their successors are elected and
qualified, not les3 than a majority of
whom shall be residents of the coun
ty in which the bank is located or
counties immediately adjacent there
to. It shall be the duty of the board
of directors to elect from their num
ber a president and secretary, and
select a vice president and cashier,
and they may also select an assist
ant cashier and such other clerks and
assistants as the business of the
corporation may require. The term
of office of the officers of this cor
poration shall be one year, or until
their successors are elected and
qualified. The board of directors may
adopt such by-laws for the regula
tion and management of the affairs
and business of the corporation as
it may deem proper.
Article VIII The regular annual
meeting of the stockholders of this
corporation shall be held on the first
Tuesday of January each year, at
which meeting the board of directors
above provided for shall be elected.
A majority of the shares of stock of
the corporation at any regular or
special meeting shall constitute a
quorum for the transaction of busi
ness. Article IX Until the regular
meeting of the stockholders of the
corporation, the following named
persons shall constitute the board
of directors: L J. Dunn, B. M. Han
son, E. A. Landon.
Article X Each stockholder shall
at any regular or special meeting be
entitled to one vote, either in person
or by proxy, for each share of stock
held.
Article XI These articles of in
