Friday from Sioux City, Iowa, where
she has been visiting her brother,

Mr. and Mrs. Martin Streich and
Mr. and Mrs. Hill Streich and son
Dale were Sunday dinner guests at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Albert
Streich.
Mr. and Mj-s. Simeon Sawyer and
small daughter of Hastings came
Tuesday to spend a few days with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. II. II.
Lawton.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hammond of
Davenport, Iowa, were visitors at
the II. II. Lawton home Monday.
Mrs. Hammond and Mr. Lawton are
sister and brother.
William Rikli and family motor

Berniee, Holland and Marcus had
their troublesome tonsils removed.
The family returned home Satur
day evening.
The poem, "Prayer of the Farm
belt," by Miss Minnie D. Klemme,
appeared in the September 5th Rural
Life issue of the Evangelical Cru
sader, the denominational weekly
youth magazine.
Jean and Junior Tool, formerly of
Murdock, arrived from Denver Satur
day of last week for a couple of days
visit with friends before entering
the University of Nebraska the fore
part of this week.
Herman F. Schweppe, who recent
ly had his limb injured while re
pairing a binder, is recovering nice
ly. He is now able to walk about,
with the help of a cane, and to do
some of his fall work.
Harold Knosp was in Murdock
Friday evening visiting his sister
and family, Mrs. August Wilkin, be
fore returning on Saturday to re
sume his studies at Western Union
college at Le Mars, Iowa.
Alfred Wilkin, who has been help
ing II. F. Schweppe cn the farm
this summer, returned to LeMars,
Iowa, on Saturday, where he will
be a Junior in Western Union col
lege, which begins next week.

was born to Mr. and Mrs. Herman
Luetchens Monday, August Cist.
Mrs. Ernest Schroeder of Clay Cen
ter, Nebraska, is attending her
daughter Ruth and baby boy.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kupke and
familv drove to Omaha Friday of
last week, being accompanied by
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kupke. While
in the city, they visited with Mr.
and Mrs. Hartin Bohlscn and fam
ily. Miss Ruth Schlapbof, the second
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dan
Schlapbof, recently underwent a
tonsilectomy. She will enter the
Dryan Memorial hospital in Lincoln
shortly for a course in nurse's train
ing. Mrs. A. J. Neitzel left last Thurs
day for California, accompanying
Mrs. Clyde Crawford, who has been
here about six weeks visiting her
mother in Lincoln. Mrs. Neitzel is
going to visit her sister, who makes
her home with her son.

when an implement building caught
fire and burned to the ground. The
fire had advanced to far when help
arrived that the building could not
be saved.
Alvin Bornemeier. who had his
right arm and two ribs fractured in
an accident August 29th, came home
from the hospital Wednesday even
ing. He is showing a fine improve
ment now, but finds that the days
and nights are very uncomfortable
and long while he is waiting for the
fractures to heal.
Ashland Won Tournament
The final results of the soft ball
tournament played last week on the
Murdock lighted field were determin
ed Friday night when Ashland de
feated Louisville in a hotly contest
ed game, 4 to 3, winning the sea
son's tournament. The Murdock Fire
men's team defeated South Bend by
a score of 15 to 1 in a five inning
camp, eivinsr the Firemen second
place.
Enjoying a Vacation
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Amgwert are
spending a few days with friends in
Denver, Colo., after a very busy sea
son in the Murdock Mercantile store.
They expect to return home on Fri
day of this week. George Kruse and
August Wilkin are caring for the
store during their absence. Their
son Jackie is staying with Grand
ma Riekman.
Faculty Meets
The 1936-1037 faculty of the Mur
dock schools had an important meet
ing at the school house Saturday
morning with Superintendent Olson.
Miss Blanche Anderson returned to
Murdock on Friday to prepare for
the opening of school Monday. Miss
Eloise Pool and Miss Violet John
son came back late Friday evening.
Had Pleasant Meeting
Fifty young people attended a
fine gathering of Murdock Christian
Endeavorers at the home of Marie
and Martha Schweppe Friday even
ing. After the close of the busi
ness session, the large crowd engaged
in building a present day newspaper
with its many departments. Every
one enjoyed the occasion immensely.
Delicious refreshments were served
by the amiable hostess.
Plan Evangelistic Meetings
The special appointed committees
on Evangelism for the Elm wood, Cal
lahan, Murdock and Louisville Evan
gelical churches, met at the Murdock
church yesterday (Sunday) afternoon
to plan tor a union evangelistic ser
ies of meetings, beginning Septem
ber 20th and continuing until Oc
tober 4th. The meeting is to be con
ducted in the Callahan church this
year, with the pastors of the churches
as the evening messengers through
out the season.
Schools Opened Monday
School opened Monday with a full
force of teachers and a good enroll
ment of pupils. The teaching corps
is composed of Supt. Olson, Coach
Miller, Miss Van Berg, music, and
Miss Pool, in the high school; Miss
Anderson, 7th and 8th grades; Miss
Johnson, 5th and 6 th grades; Miss
Krall, 3rd and 4th grades, and Miss
Kroh, 1st and 2nd grades.
Here from Wisconsin
Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Larseu and
their daughters, Camilla and Kath
leen, of Madison, Wisconsin, were
guests at the Kev. P. C. Krey home
during the past fortnight. Miss Clara
Larsen accompanied her brother and
family to Nebraska. Mr. Larsen and
Mrs. Larsen are brother and sister
of Mrs. Krey.
Last Sunday, another sister and
family, Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Holland,
of Blair, were dinner guests at the
Krey home. "
The Larsens departed on Wednes
day for their home in Wisconsin.
Splendid "Prayer Conference"
L. Neitzel reports a glorious,. day
last Wednesday at Havelock at the
Christian and Missionary Alliance
tabernacle, where he was the speak
er in the afternoon. His topic was:
"The Effectual .Fervent Prayer" and
in the evening he spoke again on
"The Joyful Christian." About five
hours were spent in prayer during
the day. The power of God was
manifest in a remarkable way while
the church waited on God. These
"prayer conferences" are a source
of great power for the church, in
stimulating a deeper work of grace
and fuller consecration to the King
dom of Christ.
The attendance was good through
out the day.
. Achievement Day
The Rin and Stitch It club held
their achievement day last Friday
and gave a fine program to their

making it difficult for the judges to
decide. These girls are from S to
12 years old and their work looked
like it was done by much older per
sons. Mrs. Ward and Mrs. Rase,
leaders of the club, can be given
much credit for the girls' results.
They will send their work to the
county fair at Weeping Water this
week.
A delicious lunch prepared by the
iris was served to everyone present.

SOCIAL WORKERS FLOWER CLUB
The Social Workers Flower club
met at the home of Mrs. J. L. Stamp
with Mrs. James Warga and Mrs.
Sam Gilmour assistant hostesses.
After the usual business meeting
program was given. Mrs. John
Schutz favored the ladies with one of
hef beautiful solos. Mrs. Fred Spang-
ler and Mrs. Mike Kaffenberger also
gave two duet numbers. They were
accompanied at the piano by Mrs.
George Mumm. A bird and quilt con
test was also enjoyed by. all. The
committee that was selected by the
club to work at the stand at the
Rock Bluff picnic, Mrs. Mike Kaffen
berger, Mrs . Waller Martin, Mrs.
George Mumm, Mrs. W. A. Wheeler
and Miss Helen Johnson, were honor
ed by being escorted into the dining
room by the hostesses where five
places at the head of the table were
awaiting them, with favors at each
plate as a token of appreciation for
their work. A response of thanks
was given by Mrs. Mike Kaffenberger
in behalf of the committee. The
tables had been beautifully decor
ated by Mrs. George Pugsley and Miss
Helen Gilmour who also assisted the
hostesses in serving.
A delicious two course luncheon
was served at the close of a most
pleasant afternoon.
A number of visitors were present.

The next meeting will be Oct.
14th at the home of Mrs. Ray Wiles

"Milton D. Polk, former Boiso
newspaper man, who iater was editor
of the Idaho Free Press, Nampa, for
many years, is in the Mercy Hos
pital, for medical treatment. Mr.
Polk suffered a severe heart attack
Wednesday at his, home. His son-in-law
and daugnter, Mr. and Mrs.
Frank A. Banks, arrived in Nampa
Friday to be with him."
Mr. Polk, older residents of the
city will recall, was editor of the
Plattsmouth News in the early part
of this century.
ATTEND FUNERAL SERVICES
From Saturday's Dally
County Attorney W. G. Kieck was
in Springfield today where he was
called to attend the funeral of N. J.
Christianson, a friend of many years
standing. Mr. Christianson was an
old time resident of Springfield and
a member of the Masopic lodge there.
The funeral was held this afternoon
from the Methodist church at 2
o'clock.
HOUSE BURNED
Mr. and Mrs. William Knaup of
Murdock received a letter last week
from their daughter Verna, (Mrs.
Robert Chestnut) of Red Rock, Okla
homa, telling of a storm they had in
which the lightning struck their
home and burned it to the ground.
Although they were very luck as the
lightning came in through their bed
room window and struck within four
inches of their heads, it was said
that the feather pillows were what
saved their lives. The mattress upon
which they were sleeping caught fire
but they succeeded in getting It out
but the fire seemed to be between the
walls. They were able to save a lot
of their furniture and clothing. Their
biggest loss was their bedding and
kitchen supplies. They said it seemed
a shame to put the things out in the
rain but seemed to be the way of
saving what they did. They said the
water was about ankle deep. Verna

ARTICLES OF INCORPORATION
We, the undersigned, hereby as
sociate ourselves together for the
purpose of forming a banking cor
poration as provided by the laws of
the State of Nebraska, and do adopt
the following Articles of Incorpora
tion: Article I The name of this cor
poration shall be UNION STATE
BANK.
Article II The principal place of
business of this corporation shall be
at Greenwood, County of Cass, State
of Nebraska.
Article III The object for which
this corporation is formed is to carry
on a commercial banking business a3
provided by the Laws of Nebraska.
Article IV The authorized capi
tal stock of this corporation shall be
$25,000.00, of which at least $10,
000.00 shall have been paid in at
the time of commencement of busi
ness, which shall be issued in shares
of the par value of One Hundred
(100) Dollars each. No transfer of
the stock of this corporation shall
be operative until entered on the
books of the corporation.
Article V The indebtedness of
this corporation shall at no time ex
ceed the amount of its paid-in cap
ital and surplus except for deposits.
Article VI This corporation shall
begin business on the 1st day of July,
1936, or as soon thereafter as auth
orized by the Department of Bank
ing of the State of Nebraska, and
shall terminate on the 1st day of
July, 1966.
Article VIII The affairs of this
corporation shall be under the con
trol and management of a board of
directors consisting of not less than
three nor more than five share
holders, whose term of office shall be
for a period of one year, or until
their successors are elected and
qualified, not less than a majority of
whom shall be residents of the coun
ty in which the bank is located or
counties immediately adjacent there
to. It shall be the duty of the board
of directors to elect from their num
ber a president and secretary, and
select a vice president and cashier,
and they may also select an assist
ant cashier and such other clerks and
assistants as the business of the
corporation may require. The term
of office of the officers of this cor
poration shall be one year, or until
their successors are elected and
qualified. The board of directors may
adopt such by-laws for the regula
tion and management of the affairs
and business of the corporation a3
it may deem proper.
Article VIII The regular annual
meeting of the stockholders of this
corporation shall be held on the first
Tuesday of January each year, at
which meeting the board of directors
above provided for shall be elected.
A majority of the shares of stock or
the corporation at any regular or
special meeting shall constitute a
quorum for the transaction of busi
ness.
Article IX Until the regular
meeting of the stockholders of the
corporation, the following named
persons shall constitute the board
of directors: L J. Dunn, B. M. Han
son, E. A. Landon.
Article X Each stockholder shall
at any regular or special meeting be
entitled to one vote, either in person
or by proxy, for each share of stock
held.
Article XI These articles of in

Mildred N. Morgan, deceased, for
license to sell Lots 11 and 12 in
Block 3 7 in the City of Plattsmouth,
Nebraska, subject to the homestead
right of Fred G. Morgan therein, and
also the North half of Lots 11 and
12 in Block 54 in the City of Platts
mouth, Nebraska, for the purpose of
paying debts and costs of administra
tion of said estate; and it appearing
that there is not sufficient personal
property in the hands of the adminis
trator to pay the debts and costs of
said administration, and it further
appearing that there is no personal
property in the hands of said ad
ministrator; that the claims allowed
in said estate amount to the sum of
$S02.99, and that the costs of ad
ministration will amount to approxi
mately $250.00; that an order should
be entered directing all persons in
terestcd in said estate to appear and
show cause why a license should not
be granted to said Administrator to
sell said real estate.
It is therefore Ordered that all
persons interested in the estate of
Mildred N. Morgan, deceased, appear
before the Judge of the District
Court within and for the County of
Cass. Nebraska, on the 6th day of
October. 1936, at 10 o'clock a. m., at
chambers in the court house in the
City of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, to
show cause, if any, why a license
should not be granted to Fred G
Morgan. Administrator of the estate
of Mildred N. Morgan, deceased, to
sell Lots 11 and 12 in Block 37 in
the City of Plattsmouth, Nebraska,
