A Lesson to Thieves The quick and brave action of Lee Stewart Saturday morning when a thief was stealing tires from the Stewart car may cause thieves to be more cautious in the future. Many places in this vicinity have been mo lested by thieves during the past few months, valuable property being lost in quite a few of the cases, while in others the intruders were scared away before getting what they had sought. It is very evident that hard working farmers will not stand back while law breakers run off with a portion of their labor-earned prop erty. And that was exactly what happened at the Stewart garage when Frank Harnier was shot and wound ed while attempting to steal tires from the Stewart car. Thieves, beware! You will find a warm reception awaiting you in this vicinity. One year old Thursday, April 30th, and the Resettlement Administration has advanced aid to 55 farm families in Cass county, it was announced by Jean Spangler, Resettlement rep resentative. Mr. Spangler has been actively en gaged in field work for the Resettle ment Administration in this district for the past 7 months, although the agency was created by executive or der of the president one year ago. Setting up of an adequate national, regional and state staff took several months so that actual field operations in this district date back to Septem ber 15, 1935, Mr. Spangler said. "Farmers and businessmen alike have received great benefits from the Resettlement Administration," said Mr. Spangler. "The program Is so designed that it deals with needs of the individual case. If it had not been for emergency grants during the severe winter months thousands of farm families would have lacked the necessities of life. The ability of Resettlement to meet this need re veals an efficient working organiz ation." Lack of available funds made it impossible to extend the standard farm plan to all those desiring loans, the Resettlement representa tive pointed out, but in his district he said that 23 farmers were now operating under budgeted loans. This part of the program, he said ,is prov ing very successful. "Since Resettlement offices were opened more than $22,000.00 has been disbursed in either grants or loans." Advice to farmers on modern cropping methods is one of the fea tures of toe standard farm plan, ac cording to Mr. Spangler.
