A. Lingbloom, of Elsie, Nebraska, is quite sick in a hospital near that place. At last reports, she was some better. Grant Durlin returned home Sat urday after a week's visit with rela tives at Sedalia and Trenton, Mis souri. His son John remained as he has secured employment there. Mrs. W. A. White received the sad news last Wednesday of the death of her cousin, Ole Shamp, of Lincoln. A sudden heart attack while at his work was the cause of his death. Mr. and Mrs. Jess Brown of Mur dock were gue3ts of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Elheredge for Sunday dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Kyles and daugh ter Alta were shopping in Lincoln Saturday. Largely Attended Keetin? The O. E. S. Kensington was pleas antly entertained by Mrs. Ralph Clymer at her home last Wednesday atternoon, December 11. There was an unusually large crowd present. The business meeting was conducted by the president and the business of the year was completed at this time, and the following officers were elect ed for next year: Mrs. Minnie Strad ley, president; Mrs. Mabel Lambert, vice president; Mrs. Myrtle Cole man, secretary and Miss Roxanna Allen, treasurer. Numbers were drawn on the quilt and Mrs. Ben Howard was found to have the lurky number. An exchange of gifts around a beautifully decorated Christmas tree caused much pleasure to all. The rest of the time was spent visiting and with fancy work. A most appetizing lunch was served by the hostess. Eebekahs Have All-Day Meeting The ladies of the Greenwood Re bekah ledge No. 24G held an all day meeting last Thursday, December 12, at the home of Mrs. Beo Peters. A total of sixteen members and one visitor were present. At noon a most delicious covered dish luncheon was served cafeteria style, and greatly enjoyed by all. The time was spent quilting on their quilt, which they are selling numbers on. During the afternoon an exchange of Christmas gift3 was enjoyed around a beauti fully decorated Christmas tree. A nice lot of work was accomplish ed cn the quilt. Freshmen Enjoy Party On last Wednesday evening, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Malchow entertained the members of the Freshmen class of the High school at a Christmas party at their home. Mr. Malchow is sponsor of this class. Each mem ber cf the class dressed to represent some movie actor or actress, each playing their part very well and causing much merriment. Following the program came an exchange of Christmas gifts. Gerald Hamilton on behalf of the class pre sented Mr. Malchow with a gift. Lcliwlcus refreshments were served at the close of the evening and all de parted at a late hour declaring Mr. and Mrs. Malchow royal entertainers. Bazaar Well Patronized The bazaar and supper which was given by the ladies of the Methodist church last Saturday, December 7, at the church basement, was well patronized. A splendid supper was served to the large crowd. All the articles in the fancy work, candy, toys and the men's booths were dis posed of at a good figure. As a result of their effort, the la dies realized about $05 clear. The ladies of the Guild wish to thank everyone for their donations and help in making the bazaar the suc cess it proved to be. Community Social Last Friday night the patrons of the Charlie Martin school district held a get-together community social at the school house. Miss Delia Neben is the teacher. There was a good crowd present. A very fine program was given, which was greatly enjoyed by all. Numbers were sold on a oose and Mr. Friend held the lucky number. A very delicious lunch was served at the close of the evening. Project Club Entertained The Jolly Fairlanders project club was pleasantly entertained on Friday afternoon by Mrs. Wilber Paulus at her home. There was a good crowd present. The lesson was "The Home maker Entertains." This was in the nature of a Christmas party and the table was beautifully decorated in keeping with the Yuletide spirit. A hnori Liinsimas program was pre sented by some of the members, be ing greatly enjoyed by all who were present. Delicious refreshments were serv ed as a fitting climax to the after noon. The next meeting will be held cn January 23rd, with Mrs. Feme Mansfield as hostess. Played Five Hundred The L. C. C. Kensington ladies held their regular party Friday evening, December 6. at the American Legion hall, with Mrs. Earl Stradley. Mrs. E. A. Landon and Mrs. Ralph Cly mer as hostesses. A beautifully deco rated Christmas tree formed the cen terpiece of the room. There were eight tables of players present and the evening was spent playing five hundred. Mrs. E. O. Miller won the royal prize for the ladies and Everett Cope the royal prize for the men. A very delicious luncheon was served at the close of the evening. X. E. Church Notes Sunday school at 10 a. m. The Men's Brotherhood will hold their meeting Thursday evening, De cember 19, at the church basement. A good program is assured. Afternoon Covered Dish Luncheon The Dorcas Society cf the Chris tian church held their regular meet ing Friday afternoon, December G, at their church, with an afternoon covered dish luncheon. There was an unusually large crowd present and the business of the year was finished up at this time. The following officers were elect ed for the coming year: Mrs. N. O. Coleman, president; Mrs. William Armstrong, vice president; Mrs. Everett Cope, secretary, and Mrs. E. A. Landon, treasurer. The news re porter for ,the organization will be announced later. Following the business meeting and election, the time was spent socially. The next meeting will be in the form of a hard time meeting. Each member is to come dressed appropri ate to the occasion and a prize will be given for the best costume. Mrs. Joe Kyles will be the hostess and the time will be announced later. Shower for Bride On last Sunday afternoon a num ber of relatives and friends gathered at the hall in Manley at which time a shower was given in honor of Mrs. W. F. Keekler. American Legion Entertains The Greenwood American Legion post No. 17.1 was host to the school board and Greenwood business men at an entertainment and feed last Thuisday evening at the Legion rooms. There were 50 present. John Downing, commander of the Greenwood post, made the introduc tory address of welcome. Several songs, including "America," were sung by the group. The Greenwood high school boys' quartette sang two songs and Rex Gribble played a piano solo. Rev. Anderson made a fine talk on "Pacificism," which was well receiv ed. Carl I). Ganz, of Alvo, gave a talk on the communistic trend of the present times, presenting the case in a fitting way. Following the program, the com mittee of Legionnaires dished out a line oyster stew that just hit the spot and proved most refreshing. Everyone expressed appreciation of the hospitable manner they had been treated by the Legionnaires. The Greenwood post is planning on Holding a regular meetincr each v.onth, with a program of some kind at each meeting. PUSHING W0EK The workmen on the South Sixth street are pushing the relaying of the box sewer along the east side of the street and have made excellent progress with the floor and sides of the enlarged sewer this week. There will be several intakes placed on the west side of the street, with small arriers to take the water across the street under the new pavement into the large sewer, but work on these has not been commenced as yet. The rebuilding of the sewer is taking a large amount of the brick that was in the old pavement, it be ing estimated that between ISO, 000 aud 200,000 brick will be required to complete the extensions provided for in the plans. This will take the en- arged sewers some 50 feet past the alleys, both to the south and north of Main street, from which points they are to be continued to the out lying intersections, using the 30-inch tile that formerly started at the Main street property line and extended back little more than a third of the block in each direction.
