Weeping Water
Hart Robinson was locking after
some business matters in Lincoln on
Tuesday of this week.
Anton Jourgeson has been In very
poor health for some time past and
for a time he was kept to his bed,
but Is able to be about again.
Mrs. Earl Oldham has not been
enjoying the hay fever which she has
been having for the past two weeks
but Is now rapidly getting over the
malady.
Dorothy Shrader who was working
at the cafe of her aunt, Miss Mayme
Killman, has retuned to her home
In the country where she is assist
ing with the work there.
The new house that is being built
for John Cole is going forward very
rapidly and it is expected that the
building will be primed on the out
side by the end of this week.
Mrs. A. E. Lake of Lincoln was a
visitor for the day on last Sunday
at the home of County Commission
er Fred H. Gorder and wife, where
all enjoyed the visit very much.
Lloyd Lowthers was painting and
decorating the interior of the beauty
shop and millinery store of Mrs.
Agnes Rough and adding to the al
ready beautiful place of business.
Robert Hoffman, son of O. L. Hoff
man and wife, has been quite 111 for
some time with a fever. He is being
looked after by the family doctor and
Is reported as getting along nicely
now.
Mr. and Mrs. John Bolz were in
Lincoln last Monday looking after
some business matters for a short
time and where Mrs. Bolz was secur
ing some supplies for her beauty
shop.
The quarry of "Weeping "Water is
going on very nicely and with the
large number of people working and
the number which are soon to be put
to work will make a very nice pay
roll every week.
V. C. Wallick of the First Na
tional bank of "Weeping "Water is
spending this week with his mother
who is manager of the telephone
station at Fullerton where she has
been for some time.
Mr. and Mrs. L. C. "Wolcptt and the
family who have been spending some
three weeks at Lake Okobojl in
northwest Iowa and where they have
been vacationing and fishing return
ed home last Sunday evening.

Sandley. a daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
J. J. Meier who is teaching in Chi
cago, were guests at the Meier home
for the evening last Monday.
G. R. Dinger and Sam Baker, the
carpenter and contractor, were called
to Lincoln Tuesday of this week
where they had some business mat
ters to look after, the going to the
big town in the car of Mr. Binger.
"While George Metcalf was going
to town a neighbor dog bit one oi
his ankles to the degree that the
foot had to be cauterized and dress
ed. The bite is getting along nicely
at this time and it is hoped it will
soon be well again.
Mr. and Mrs. Lester Shrader who
have been spending some week to
ten days in the west which included
western Nebraska and the Black
Hills, returned home last Saturday
well pleased with the west and the
vacation they had enjoyed.
Otto Colchor and wife and Mr. and
Mrs. Joe Abrams who were visiting
and taking a vacation near Alns
worth for the past week or more, re
turned home last Sunday evening and
report fishing excellent and that they
had a wonderful time while away.
Ross Shields the cleaner has been
selected as the cleaned for the CCC
camp and with 180 men there now
and the amount when the camp is
completed will contain near three
hundred, the work which must neces
sarily be done will be quite consider
able. Fred Allen and the family were
over to Omaha last Saunday where
they went to visit with friends and
when they were returning sought a
place to eat their dinner In a park
but finding none they stopped and
drove Into a school yard where theyj
sat in the car and enjoyed their din
ner before coming on home.
E. A. Jamison has the contract for
rebuilding the concrete walk in front
of the Handy Service station and
Which did not conform to the pav
ing which the Btation had installed
when the station was established. The
pavement has become in very poor
condition and it is desired that it be
placed in better condition in order
that it can be Bafely used.
Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Sealock of Om
aha, the latter a daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. W. P. SItzman who have been
taking a vacation for the past ten
days returned and were visiting for
a short time at the home of Mrs. Sea
lock's parents. "While they were away
they were spending the time in Illi
nois and Missouri, visiting with
friends in Chicago a portion of the
time.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Allen were In
Lincoln last Tuesday evening to at
tending a wedding at the First Chris
tian church of that place, and which
joined in holy wedlock Miss May
Grees and Ralph Ttaymond Hoffman.
Following the ceremony, which oc
curred at 7:30 p. m., there was a
reception at the church parlors,
v.Iiore congratulations, .were .tendered
and well wishes expressed.
Enjoyed Wonderful Trip. . '
Miss Harriett SItzman, who is a
teacher In the schools of Omaha, and
where she has been for a number of
years, concluded ehe would like to
take a vacation and a trip and so in
vited her two brothers, "Wm. P. SItz
man of Weeping Water and Frank
SItzman of south of Plattsmouth and
with their auto departed for an ex
tended trip which included a portion
of Missouri and Illinois where they
visited at the home of an aunt, In
dianapolis, Indiana, and also spent
some time at the home of relatives in
Illinois, and a number of days in
Chicago. On their return trip they
drove through Indiana, crossing the
Ohio river, entered Kentucky and
visiting at Mammouth cave near Bol
ing Green, Kentucky, and returned
home, having been away for the past
nearly two weekB.
Twenty-eight Years Predominate.
The Nebraska State Journal had
an account of the wedding of Mr.
G. R. Binger and wife which occur
red twenty-eight years ago and which
happened on August 28th. Mr. and
Mrs. Binger celebrated the passing
of the occasion and had a number of
their friends with them who extend
ed congratulations and well wishes
for many more years of wedded life.
Have Abundance of Water Now.
The city or Weeping Water which
has been rather short of water and
have had fears of a water shortage,
is at ease now as the well which was
sunk last year east across the road
from the pumping station has been
tapped and the water is being pump
ed into the reservoir on the hill north
of the cemetery. The water is excel
lent and abundant at this time.
School Open Coming Week,
The -Weeping Water schools will
open on the coming Tuesday, the day
following Labor day and the school
has been placed in the best of con
dition and will be under the charge
of A. J. Ambler who is the care
taker of the place.

Trouble With a Civit Cat.
A large civit cat, better known as
a skunk or pole cat, caused some dis
agreeable atmosphere early this week
when it was startled by a dog who
chased the aaimal across the street
and a man named JIaifwen who-lived
by himself came out of the house,
leaving the door open, and attempted
to head off the rapidly fleeing cat
ship, and gave it a kick, when the
animal darted Into his house and
would not be dislodged, and no one
even the frisky dog was desirous of
entering the highly perfumed home.
A gun. was obtained and the animal
shot and removed and buried, but at J
the home a very strong odor per-J
sists, remaining as a reminder of
the troublesome and unwelcome visi
tor. Was it bad luck or ill manage
ment or what which Has turned this
man's home into such an unsavory
place?
Modern Innocence Abroad.
Not the story which Mark Twain
wrote but one in some instances JuBt
as exciting was featured when
George Towle and wife went to Cali
fornia last June. He had taken the
mother to Plalnview before going, as
she was not desirous of making a
trip to California and in his trip to
the north portion of the state he was
water bound as there was plenty of
water at that time. However when
the mother learned that another son
was to marry on the west coast she
went by train.
Mr. Towle made a long trip cover
ing more than 7,000 miles before he
returned. He attempted to get across
the Republican river when it was on
its first rampage, but had to go clear
out to Colorado Springs before he
could get across and then on to Los
Angeles which amounted to about
two thousand miles, and after that he
went up to Seattle and to Eugene,
Oregon, where he and another car got
together with bad results, while for
tunately no one was Hurt, his car and
that of the other driver were more
or less damaged and the other owner
did not have any Insurance and had
bought the car on payments and thus
had nothing to reimburse M. Towle
for the damage. However Mr. Towle
had insurance on his car to protect
the other fellow but not hia loss. So
he traded the car and received a new
one in its stead.
While Mr. Towle was mingling
with the friendly westerners a light
fingered gent extracted his roll then
amounting to $45.20 from his trous
ers pocket and left him to replenish
his purse before he could come home.
However they arrived safely on last
Sunday night and glad to see good
old Weeping Water.
Will Hot Maintain a Home.
With the passing of his lifelong
companion Wm. Coatman is to have
a sale of his household effects and has
rented his home to one of the offi;
cers of the CCC camp and will make
his home with the children and for
the present will live with his daugh
ter, Mrs. M. L. Gallaher of Grand Island.
Pleasantly Surprised.
Rev. and Mrs. E. S. Pangborn were
somewhat surprise when a number of
cars of their former parishioners ar
rived from Hooper and one car from
Nebraska City who had formerly re
sided at Hooper, came with well fill
ed baskets and attended services at
the church listening to their former
pastor preach. After the services
were over the basement of the church
was turned into a banquet room and
with about thirty of the guests en
joyed a very fine dinner and an ex
cellent visit, returning to their home
in the late afternoon, after extend
ing the wish for a very prosperous
sojourn In Weeping Water.
Will Establish liquor Store.
A. L. Fisher of Stelnhouer was in
Weeping Water and rented the room
which has been used for a pleasure
parlor by Nissley S. Marshall which
has been changed to suit the peculiar
business which it is desired for and
which In case the city ccuncil of
Weeping Water shall give a permit
will be used for a liquor store.
