Elmwood News
Miss Lucile Bulsing, clerk at the
Farmers Union store, was called to
Lincoln last Tuesday to look after
some business matters.
Louis Bornemeier, manager of the
Farmers Union Produce company, was
called to Lincoln Tuesday to look af
ter some business for the company.
Miss Hilda Schmidt, who is em
ployed in Lincoln, was a visitor for a
short time at the home of her sister,
Mrs. William Winkler, of Elmwood,
Lee Coatman has accepted a posi
tion as mechanic at the store of John
Elliott, of Alvo, where he is over
hauling tractors and putting them in
the best of condition.
Charles F. Woods, who has been
serving on the federal jury at Lin
coln, has completed his work for the
present, and was able to return home
early this week.
George T. Wilson was a business
visitor in Lincoln last Monday, where
he was looking after some business
matters, a3 well as attending a ses
sion of the legislature.
Mr. and Mrs. Emil Meyers and the
children of Lincoln were over to Elm
wood, where they visited for the day
at the home of Mrs. Meyers' parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gillet, of thi3
place. A fine time was had.
Little Jean Adair Bothwell, who
suffered a fractured arm last week
while at play at school, is getting
along very nicely and although hav
ing to carry her arm in a sling, is able
, to continue with her studies.
The living room and dining room
at the telephone office building are
being painted and redecorated, adding
much to the appearance of the place
and making things tidy and clean.
Fred Wilkins is doing the work.
Paul Marshall was a visitor in
Plattsmouth last Monday, where he
wa3 attending the meeting of the pre
cinct assessors which was held at the
court house in Plattsmouth, where
they adopted a schedule of values for
farm animals, grain, farm tools and
products in general.
R. J. Miller and wife received some
300 baby chicks last week, which
"have been placed in a brooder and
will be given splendid care to the end
of raising a large percentage of them
into early spring fries and laying
pullets. The capacity cf the brooder
is just that number.
Baby Boy Erings Kappines3.
A fine little son arrived at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Knaupe, tho
latter being a daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. F. L. Fitch, bringing joy to both
the parents and grandparents.
Senior Class Have Pictures
On Tuesday, the Senior class of the
Elmwood high school went to Lin
coln where they had their pictures
taken in anticipation of the gradua
tion cf the members this spring, after
which they will be scattered no one
knows where. The pictures will pro
vide the members of the class with
pleasant memories of their school
days.
51st Wedding Anniversary
Last Sunday at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. L. A. Tyson, ia Elmwood,
there was celebrated tho passing of
their 51st wedding anniversary, the
event being attended by their child
ren and families as well as other rel
atives. The following day they were
guest3 of their son Dr. R. W. Tyson
and wife on a trip to Omaha, where
all attended the flower show.
Starting Wcrk on the Paving
A crew of workmen was placed on
the section of the O street road that
i3 to be paved last Monday. They are
removing the gravel from the high
way and spreading it on the road that
will be used as a detour route dur
ing the time the grading and paving
work is in progress. The plan i3 to
route the detour road four miles east
of Elmwood, thence north to the
Elmwocd-Weeping Water road, which
is already graveled. The east and
west stretch cf this route is ready for
tho gravel, but considerable grading
will be required to place the north
and south stretch i:i condition for
graveling and until that i3 done the
temporary detour route will run east
to the Cascade school, two miles south
of Weeping Water, and thnce south
to the Weeping Water corner on the
O street road. It is expected the grad
ing will be completed in a short time
thus providing an all weather detour.
The new paving will extend east
from the Elmwood corner a distance
of four miles, and it is expected
further contract will be made thi3
spring providing for the paving of
some of the additional gap, begin
ning at the east end of the present
paving perhaps to include all of it
thus providing a paved road straight
through from the Union corner to
Lincoln.

rire Causes Excitement
Last Monday the produce station of
the Beatrice Creamery company was
found to be on fire. There was prompt
response on the part of those in the
immediate vicinity, even before the
alarm was sounded, and as a result
the blaze was promptly extinguished.
The fire boys were on the scene in a
few moments, however, and had their
kozo laid ready for use, had it been
necessary. The fire occurred about
S o'clock in. the morning, when the
business men and their clerks were
down town. The damage to the build
ing was slight, the roof being re
paired the same day.
Able to Eeturn Home
Ralph Linn and Alfred Alford, who
were injured in a head-on collision
with another car at the north out
skirts of Plattsmouth Sunday even
ing, being taken to a hospital in Om
aha after the accident, were able to
return to their homes here Monday
afternoon.
The injuries cf Mr. Alford proved
to be but slight, while those sustain
ed by Mr. Linn were more serious.
However, since arriving heme, he has
been getting along very nicely. He
was brought home by Bert Clements,
who was accompanied on the trip to
Cmaha by J. I Cobb. The car was
badly demolished as a result cf the
crash.
