No one was able to say just where the meteor fell but the force of the impact was claimed to have shook the town of Alvo a3 those by an earth upheaval. W. R. Holmes, Rock Island tele graph operator at Alvo, was sitting by the depot window writing a letter when the sky lighted up as bright as day. Holmes described It as "big as house" and bluish white, in color As it sped, it left a trail of blue came, a second later, wnen it ap parently crashed to earth, there was a terrific blast. Will Mitchell, brakeman, working in the yards outside also saw the meteor and told Holmes it "nearly scared me to death." Both men said it appeared to be about one hundred feet high. R. I. Monroe, operator at South Dend for the railroad and Ity. J, Krone, of Lincoln, heard the explo sion but did not see the meteor, they told Holmes over the railroad's tele graph line.
