KANSAS GUSHES. RUNS HIGH
McPherson, Kas. The Derby Oil
company's new gusher on the Ack
ley farm at Burrton, near here, tank
ed 7.488 barrels in a twenty-four
hour period ending at 9 o'clock Tues
day morning, establishing itself, in
the opinion of some oil observers,
as the greatest Kansas producer
since the Eldarado boom fifteen years
ago. The producer is on the farm
of Paul Ackley. and his mother, Mrs.
Mary Ackley. Because of their un
familiarity in dealing with lease buy
ers, the Ackleys found they had sold
all their royalty privileges before the
oil was struck and will not profit
further from the production. It was I
not their Intention, they said, to dis
pose of the entire royalty rights.
WAR DEBTS TOPIC CUT OUT
London. Prime Minister MacDon
ald and Neville Chamberlain, chan
cellor of the exchequer, between
them placed an effective quietus on
any efforts to bring the war debts
Juestion up for reconsideration.
After MacDonald told the house of
commons he planned to call no new
conference to deal with the matter,
the lanky chancellor declared the;
whole question of international debts
was in abeyance at the present
moment.

CUTTING BET INS HIS LEAD

ties which have not yet completed a
canvass issued 471 absentee ballots,
but in other counties only a small

San Francisco. A move to con
vert California's two-house legisla
ture Into a single chamber body was
started by Walter McGovern, San
Prnncisnn state senator-elect. He
said he would introduce a constitu
tional amendment for the change
when the legislature convenes in
January. He is following the lead
of Senator Norrls.
New York. The American said it
wa3 reported on reliable authority
that Postmaster General Farley will
be a candidate for governor in 193C.
There are two possible obstacles to
Farley's candidacy, the paper said.
One is that the president may desire
him to continue as chairman of the
democratic national committee and
the second 13 that Governor Lehman,
re-elected last week, may seek a third
term. Farley has frequently been re
ported as a possible gubernatorial
candidate.

the bonus army addressed an open
letter to Secretary Dern in which
they assailed Gen. Douglas Mac
Arthur, chief of the staff of the
army, and opposed his reappointment
to hi3 present post.
MacArthur, the letter said, "on
