While the farm work has not been pressing John Dankliff has with the assistance of his neighbors been plac ing a concrete floor in the new barn which he recently built. The Elmwood football squad with their coach were over to Peru last Friday for a game with the Peru team and say they had a good game and all enjoyed the trip but we are not going to say anything about the score. Myron Boyd, who has been in. the west for the past month, where he has been assisting in the potato har vest, returned home last Saturday night and reports many potatoes grown there, but he was glad to be home again. Uncle Richard Tolhurst who has been so poorly of late still remains in delicate health. His sen, Harry who makes his home at Raymond was a visitor at home to see the fath er on Monday of this week, remain ing over night. Roll Miller who with some parties from Lincoln were out in Colorado where they went to hunt pheasant returned last Saturday and reports a very fine time out there where there was many of the pheasants to shoot and as well much other game. Some one hundred and fifty peo ple last week gathered at the Fath ers and Daughters banquet which wa3 sponsored by the Christian church and a most enjoyable time was had. Addresses were made by the local ministersand some from Bethany. Rev. Ernest Baker presid ed as toastmaster. At the Albert Dankliff home avery fine block corn crib has been con structed. Preparations were made last spring and as the materials were on the ground and there was plenty of work obtainable the crib had as well be constructed and ready for good crops will surely come to Cass county with another year. Messrs. Watson Jones and Howard Capwell were out securing pledges for the making of the budget for the caring for the expenses of the Methodist church of Elmwood and while they had to drive over a good deal of territory, and see many peo ple they were rewarded with many pledges for the coming year. Both gentlemen are very earnest workers in the church. Ludwig Bornemcicr and Milo Fris by were over to Lincoln on last Sat urday where they were attending the football game between Iowa and Nebraska and they say it was a great game. Byron Hauptman, coach and superintendent of the Elmwood schools. Spencer Ledger were there with a large number of the students of the Elmwood high school who all enjoyed the game Immensely. This Is a Good Idea. The Fairview school which is lo cated two miles south and two miles east of Elwood, while it may look like a corrall or a barricade is to our thinking a very fine idea as they have & Saturday MKtNWf 1 7 on the side next to the highway built a high solid board fence so that the scholars will not inadvertedly run into the highway for a ball or other things and thus be maimed or crippled thereby. Just recently there has been many accounts in papers of little ones getting killed or maim ed by autos on the highway. Will Hold Community Sale. J. W. Crays and a brother, both of Lincoln, came to Elmwood and on the vacant lot in the rear of the Ty son building built stock pens and yards for the carrying on of a com munity sale they receiving livestock and implements and what not from the farming community, and as well from the town which they will sell there sale days which in this in stance will be held on Saturday. This will afford an avenue whereby alJ can when they have something for which they have no further use, dis pose of it and when it can go into the hands of someone who wants it and can use the same. Spending Winter in East. Grandmother Ferguson who has been staying with her son, Charles, 13 now visiting with a daughter at Dixon, Illinois, where she will make her home for the winter. She depart ed last week and word from there tells of her arriving all right and feeling pretty well altho slightly tired from her long trip. Return from the Rockies. Messrs. and Mesdames Emil Rose now and Harry Green who were spending a week in Denver and the adjacent Rocky mountains where they had a cottage in the foothills and where they enjoyed a week of solid pleasure, returned home last Saturday night well pleased with their trip. Visited at Havelock. Twenty-four of the members ol the Ladies' Aid of the Elmwood Methodist church were over to Have lock on last Tuesday where they were meeting with Mrs. C. C. Jackman of that place who was for a number of years a member of the aid here, but who some time ago with the husband moved to Havelock to live. All en joyed the visit very much and as well Mrs. Jackson to get to see all her old time friends again. Democrats Organize. One evening last week the demo crats representing four precincts. Stove Creek, Greenwood and Tipton, met at Elmwood. The district is tc include Elmwood, whic his Mur dock and Wabash but there were no one present so the territory wa3 or ganized anyway with the election of George F. Wilson as chairman. El mer J. Hallstrom who wa3 present, acted as the secretary, Mr. Hallstrom being chairman of the democratic county central committee. They ar ranged for meeting as follows: One for Elmwood on October 20th at 7 o'clock when it is expected that all candidates of the democratic party will be present and participate in the meeting. Another meeting will be at held at Eagle on the 27th, this one however will be at 2:00 in the afternoon and will be like the Elni- wood meeting where all the candi dates will be present and speakers from the state speaking force -will be present and make addresses. Let every democratic voter be out tc these meetings. Many Attend Convention. There were many in attendance at the fireman's convention which is being held in Omaha this week. Among some who attended on last Tuesday were Henry Mullens, George F. Wilson, Jacob Sterner, Lyle Par ish, George Brinton and Lester Brin ton, leaving enough at home in case ot fire to care for the protection of the property. Visited Rock Bluffs Sunday. Albert Blende and wife and La vern Nickels a,nd wife;, with the dawning of a very fine day last Sun day turned the prow of their auto towards the east and continued un til they got to the Misouri rivei where the work is being done on the river and also visited the ancient city of Rock Bluffs, also visiting King Hill and Queen Hill, this be ing their first visit in that section. J. R. Reeder Visits Town. J. R. Reeder, teacher in the Plattsmouth schools and as well a candidate for the office of county superintendent of schools, was a visi tor in Elmwood last Monday and was meeting his many friends. Makes Good Choice of Car. L. L. Caygill. living just on the east edge of Elmwood and still a farmer, was over to Lincoln last week and while there made the purchase of a very fine new auto, this time taking the selection of a four door Plymouth. Mr. Caygill and family are liking this new car very much. Does It Mean Work Soon? A party of state surveyors from Lincoln were working on the O street road from the end of the pavement east, where rumor says there is tc be some four miles of pavement laid this fall. The surveying re-inforced the rumor and inspired the hopes of the people that the work will soon begin. Whether there is any foundation to the rumor or not the people are hoping that the work will get under way soon. ATTEND CONVENTION From Wednesday's Dally A large number of the members of the Plattsmouth Volunteer Fire department were at Omaha last even ing and today to attend the state convention of the Nebraska Volun teer firemen. The meetings and head quarters are at the Rome hotel and attended by 1,000 out state firemen. The Omaha fire department has ar ranged a fine exhibition of the work of their department in honor of the visitors and which will demonstrate the latest of fire fighting equipment. Many social features have been ar ranged to entertain the visiting fire men by the Omaha people and which have added to the pleasures of the big state meeting. The 1935 convention will be held at Hastings, it was voted at the Tuesday night session. IN SERIOUS CONDITION Jay Larson, Louisville man, whe was so seriously burned at the Ly-man-Richey sand pits at Meadow a few weeks ago, is reported as being in very serious condition. Mr. Lar son was injured when he fell on a two line 33,000 voltage electric line and but for a safety device on the line would have been instantly kill ed. He was hurried to the hospitrl and has been under constant care since that time and in the last few days has grown very much worse.
