THURSDAY, OCTOBER 11, 1934. PAGE FOUR PLATTSMOUTH SEMI - WEEKLY JOUENAL Nehawka Clyde Flciscnman was looking; af ter some business matters in Omaha Monday of this week, driving over in liis car. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Trotter and children were in Syracuse last Sun day. where they were visiting with his mother for the day. Miss Laverna Ingwersen was look ing after some business matters in riattsmouth for a time last Monday. driving over in her car. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Gregg were out to Callaway where they were at tending the convention of the church for over the week end. Frank Lemon and wife were visit ing with friends in Nebraska City on last Sunday and as well purchased some apples while there for their win ter storage. Miss Frances Hanson, daughter ot Mr. and Mrs. John Hanson who is attending the University of Nebras ka, was home for over the week end visiting with the parents. Mesdames Earl Troop and E. E Leach were over to Peru on last Friday where they visited Miss Har riet Leach and also brought her home for the wee'.c end visit. Miss Virginia Pollard, who is em ployed in Omaha, was a visitor at home for over the week end, coming to visit with her mother who had been away for the past three weeks. J. J. Pollard, the implement man, was a visitor in Omaha last Monday, where he went to secure some repairs for the patrons of his business, and was looking after some other matters of business as well. Olc Olsen, of Weeping Water, the stone magnate of Cass county, was in Nehawka last Saturday and looked after the crushing of six cars of stone to be shipped to Lincoln for use by a contracting firm there. C. L. Pitman and family, of Platts mouth, were guests last Sunday at the home of his sister, Mrs. Laura Fleischman, where they spent the day and also visited for a short time with Mr. and Mrs. Thomas S. Pitman, par ents of "Cordie" and his sister. George Trunkenbolz, of Eagle, was in Nehawka looking after some busi ness matters relative to his oil inter ests here, but had to stop until after the ball game was over between the Tigers and the Cardinals. However, be did get the business concluded in time to get home by evening. Sells Good Insurance. T. M. Patterson, the insurance man from Plattsmouth, was a business vis itor in Nehawka last Monday. Tom is a rustler when it comes to getting out after business, nor does his interest lag after he has sold a policy, for he is always alert to serve the best in terest of his customers, even when it involves making extra trips and oth erwise aiding them in getting the best value out of their policies. Have Parade and Program There was a parade and program ji Nehawka last Saturday afternoon to lend moral encouragement to the effcient Bible schools and Bible school teachers of the community and arouse interest in the Bible school rally day planned for the following day. The parade was organized by the L'nited Brethren schools of Nehawka and Ot terbein and the Methodist Bible school here. After the parade, which traversed the principal streets, the floats and parader3 pulled up at the Nehawka auditorium, where addresses were made by the Rev. Lewis Wilson of the Weeping Water Congregation al church and C. A. Rawls, of the Plattsmouth Presbyterian church. A great deal of interest was manifested in the demonstration and which was reflected in increased attendance at all of the local Sunday schools the fol lowing day. Few realize the amount of work and personal sacrifice requir ed of those who are teachers in the Sunday schools and put in their time week after week, in preparation of the lesson and direction of the class study period and they are certainly entitled to a rising vote of thanks as well as greater interest and better at tendance at Bible school on the part cf the general public. The lives of the youth of our land can be moulded along right channels i;i the Bible school and it behooves the parents of boys and girls to at least see that the children attend, or better still that the entire family go. Meeting with Brotherhood The Methodist church at Weeping Water has organized a Men's Brother hood comprising some eighty mem bers, whose aim is to assist with the church work and such things as make for a better community and all are striving earnestly to that end. These men hold monthly meetings during the coder portions cf the year and held one of these interesting and help ful get-togethers at the Methodist church in Weeping Water last Mon- day night. By Invitation of the pas tor of the two churches, here and at Weeping Water, a number of the members and active workers of the Nehawka church and Bible school at tended the meeting and enjoyed a most pleasant evening with their co workers at Weeping Water. Among those from here who accepted the in vitation were Albeit Anderson, Silas Munn. George Sheldon nad Prof. C. E. Stimbert. It goes without saying that they had a most excellent time. Let us hope that such an organization will be effected in Nehawka, compos ed of all men of this community who are interested in doing good. Home from the West Mrs. R. C. Pollard, who has for the past few weeks been visiting at the home of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Lottie Shotwell, of Seattle, Washington, a sister of Mr. Pollard, returned home late last week and was accompanied by Mrs. Shotwell, who will visit here for some time. Visiting at Des Moines Mrs. J. W. Miller, wife of Dr. Mil ler, who is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wessell, has been visiting in Des Moines for some time with her brother, Arno Wessell and family. She will return to Nehawka in a short time. Doctor Miller is on duty with the naval forces in Cuban waters at the present time, but expects to re turn to their home in the west before winter sets in, when Mrs. Miller will return to San Diego, where they make their home, she having been visiting here during the greater portion of the summer, while Dr. Miller went with the Pacific fleet to Atlantic waters for annual maneuvers. Slipped One Over Mrs. John O. Yeiser, of Omaha, ac companied by her two boys and a pal of theirs. Master Meade Applegast, came down Saturday, Mrs. Yeiser re turning home and leaving the boys here. Early Monday morning, she drove down after them, expecting to get them back to Omaha in time for school, but when she got here she could not locate the boys and was unable to find them until about noon, when it was too late for school and they were all to go up the following day in time for school The boys had gone on a walnuting expedition and you know what joy that is to the heart of a boy. Whether they got back Tuesday morning in time for school we do not know. No Bark on the Trees One of the members of the town board cf Nehawka and withal a very progressive business man, he and his two children concluded they would make a trip to a not far distant town, which they did, and there enjoyed a very fine visit. A little after the noon hour they decided they would return home and as the weather was clear and the roads good they thought they would have no trouble getting back, as the aforesaid business man had traveled the same road many times before. But as they journeyed along chatting and looking at the very poor crops, they found themselves sur rounded by strange landscape and a discussion arose as to where they were. The more they talked the more perplexed they were and finally they decided to ask advice at one of the farm houses along the road and were told that they were many miles south of Union, whereas their original des tination had been southwest of Ne hawka. Well, they reached home all right, considerably later than they had anticipated and so had to tell the Joke on themselves. Better luck, next time. Gave Entertainment. A gospel team from York college, accompanied by the president of the college were at the Otterbein and Nehawka churches on last Sunday and Sunday evening where they gave a very interesting program at each place. Nehawka Club Meets. The Nehawka Woman's club held the first meeting of the new year at the beautiful country home of Miss Evelyn Wolph on Friday afternoon, Oct. 5. The meeting was called to order by the president, Mrs. Nelson Berger. Flag saluate was given Members were glad to receive their new year books and to find out what their roll call for the year was. Min utes and correspondence were read by the secretary, Mrs. Sumner. A report of the Nehawka library fund was given by Mrs. Isadorc Tucker and motions were made and carried whereby the debt on the building might be cleared. Several made donations to this worthy cause and new books will be placed therein immediately. The program was under the direc tion of Mrs. August who had as her subject "Edgar Guest." Edgar Guest, the famous "newspaper poet" was born in England. The program was Office Phone 17 Jtes. Phone 2432 Dr. H. C. NICHOLS Tonsil Specialist Prices $10 - $12.50 - $15 Call or Write For Information Office & Hospital Grand Island 41 h and IMne St. Nebraska interspersed with Mrs. Julian Pollard reading some of his oest known verses, such as "They Aro Waiting for Us Over There," "Life's Can vas" and "A Heap of Livin.' " Mrs. Hall Pollard read a paper, "Edgar Guest Before the Microphone." Mrs. Stimbert a paper on "Edgar Guest's Wife," Mrs. Eugene Nutzman a poem "Her Awful Brother." "Home, Sweet Home" was sung. As a fitting tribute to Guest's life as he always thinks so much of his home and family. Report of county convention at Avoca was given by Mrs. Henry Ross. There were 31 members present and 18 guests. Among the guests were Mrs. Fred Gorder of Weeping Wa ter, Mrs. R. E. Foster of Union, and Mrs. Harmon of Avoca, who gave short talks. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostess. Several assisted Miss Evelyn with the serving. The November meeting will be at the Mrs. Frank Sheldon and Mrs. Marion Tucker home. The program will be "Tropical Fruits," with Mrs. Gertrude Pollard leader. MRS. IVAN BALFOUR, Club Reporter. United Brethren in Christ. Rev.
