Occupying New Home Miss Pcarlc Burning, who has had a new homo built during the -past s-unimcr, has the edifice entirely com pleted and moved into the new home during the early portion of this week. She has a very line modern home and one which will make her an excellent place of abode. She has accepted an offer from two cf the teachers to make her home with them. Mrs. Allison Slightly Improved Mrs. Mary B. Allison, who has been ill for so many weeks, but of late ha3 been showing some improvement, is now improved to a point where her daughter, Mrs. John R. Among those from Union who were present were Mesdames I'. F. Rihn, Jesse Dysart and Clifford Garrison. George Hastings Very Poorly Uncle George Hastings, who has at tained a goodly number of years, has been in very poor health for some time past and is unable to get about as has been his usual custom, and his friends are fearful that he lias suf fered a stroke and apprehensive as to his condition improving very rapidly. All are hoping that he may show a change for the better at any time. Mr. Hastings is a very likeable gen tleman and has the sympathy anl well wishes of a host of friends. Kitten Ball Popular In three games of kittenball played between the high school team and a team composed of business men of Union, the lads were able to win all thtpe contests. This does not mean the merchants cannot play the game, but it is evidence of the tact that the boys are skillful at it. Providing Entertainment The Union Woman's club, ever on the lookout for something that will amuse and instruct the people of the community, are planning on a series of entertainments during the fall and winter and have secured Miss Marie Kaufmann, of Plattsmouth, who a few years ago made a tour of Europe and tor.k moving pictures of all points of interest she visited, to come here and show the same on Friday night of this week, as well as give an interest ing talk on the places shown. Stramm. They are all old acquaintances and their visit here was much enjoyed. Solve Housing Problem Jewell Cooper, an employee of the storie quarries near Union, and wife, have been building a house for them r.elvcs with the aid of Joe Bauer, only this house, instead of resting on a foundation of stone or brick, is built c.n the chassi.; of a car and has a set of pneumatic tired wheels under it, so it can be readily moved from place to place as occasion demands. It is very nicely arranged, has carpet on the floor and built-in furniture and is wired for electric lights, insuring the greatest of convenience. The new house has just been completed and is being moved to a point near the home of Jesse Dysart, where it will he num bered among the inhabited residences of Union until such time as the own ers decide to locate elsewhere. Walter Mansfield i3 another who is solving the housing problem in this Why Liquid Laxatives are Back in Favor The public is fast returning to the use of liquid laxatives. People have learned that the right dose of a properly prepared liquid laxative will bring a more natural movement with out any discomfort at the time, or after. The dose of a liquid laxative can be varied to suit the needs of the in dividual. The action can thus be regulated. A child is easily given the right dose. And mild liquid laxatives do not irritate the kidneys. Doctors are generally agreed that senna is a natural laxative. It does not drain the system like the cathar tics that leave you so thirsty. Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin is a liquid laxative which relies on senna for its laxative action. It gently helps the average person's constipated bowels until nature restores their regularity. You can always get Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin at any drug store, ready for use. ingenious manner, having a house car built at the Union lumber yard. It is along the lines of that built by Mr. Cooper and will prove very convenient for the family as Mr. Mansfield's employment is shifted from one site to another. Looks like this is a good way to beat the depression for those who do not have a home of their own and are scarcely able to find desirable rental properties without paying a high rate of rent for some. Will Take Fence Posts Along Mr. and Mrs. William Spiitt who have been here for the past couple of weeks from their home at Imperial, will leave in a few days for home and expect to take with them a truck load of fence posts for use on the farm there. They say crops in that part of the country were no better than hero a;ul the farmers are facing a problem this year in getting enough feed to winter their stock. A lot of the stock there has been sold to "the government on this account and the coming year will find many short cf stock, which is always a source of seme revenue on the farms. Eetter Get Your Apples W. B. Banning, whose large apple r rchard near town is always a scene of bury activity at this time of the year, has started picking and grading this year's crop. He states that the supply of apples is very short this year all over the middle west, and his orchard, like others, is yielding a greatly reduced crop, but of very good quality. Those who are wont to buy their apple supply at Mr. Banning's orchard each year, are urged to come early this year, as the supply will not be sufficient to meet the demand. He is grading them carefully and will be able to give his customers the usual high quality as long as they last, but says it will have to be a case of "First come, first served." Better get them now ! Buy now ALL the things you need. Prices are going higher, so don't wait longer. Ladies Toggery "The Shop of Personal Service" Woman's Club Hears Discussion of the Movies Miss Helen Farley Leader ox Meet ing Fine Program Given in Movie Studies. Bast evening the Plattsmouth Woman's club held a very interesting meeting at the home of Mrs. J. C. Peterson, Jr. who was assisted by Mrs. Edgar Glaze, Mrs, Thorn?.; Walling, Mrs. Fred Lugsch, Mrs. Wm. Swatek. Mrs. W. V. Ryan. Mrs. L. W. Egt nbcrger led the de votions, using St. Mathew chapter 11. verses 2S, 29 and 30. Two letters were reat: expressing appreciation for the part the Wom an's club took in the Korn Karnival. Mrs. Christine Kirkpatr'.ck, v.hc will be the leader of the next meet ing on Oct. 15, reported she had ar ranged for Mrs. Archer of the Archer Travel Bureau of Omaha to bo here to show pictures of Alaska. These pictures will be shown at tin? pub lic library. Each member is urged to be present and bring a guest with her. The topic for last evening was "Know Your Movies." Miss Helen Farley gave a very interesting and instructive report on this topic. She stressed the importance of the re action of children in seeing the dif fent types of pictures. The reactions of the adult are very different than that of the child. Therefore, it is well to be informed as to the type of picture your child is going to see. Informing the local manager of your appreciation for the many good pic tures he brings here would be a very good habit to form. An interesting program had been planned for the evening which con sisted of piano solos by Ruth West over and Edna Mae Peterson and a group of readings by John Kenneth Bc-stor. These were very much appre ciated as the ladies always enjoy hearing from this group of young folks. Mrs. Hayes, th parliamentarian was present and und'-r her leader ship the club discussid various changes to be made in the Constitu tion and by-laws. The guests for the evening were Mrs. V. E. McFarland of Lexington, Nebraska, and two high school girls, Miss Mary Linder.ian, senior cla;s representative, and Miss Aimee Jane Thomas, of the junior class. At the close of the evening very delicious refreshments wciv served by the hostesses whi -h was a very fit ting dose of the fine program of the evening.
