Bitten by a Dog A large dog, which has been con sidered as being peaceable, last week bit the hand of Mrs. C. E. McCarthey so severely that it was necessary for the doctor to take some thirteen stitches to close the wound inflicted by the canine. Her hand is now get ting along very well, but the extreme hot weather makes this kind of a wound very dangerous. Close watch is being kept of the same in order to check any possible infection that may show up and prevent the contracting of blcod poiscn or other complica tions. Water Shortage Compels Action Like other places in this area, there is not any too much water coming from the wells, and the Union water works is having difficulty in keeping a reserve supply cn hand adequate to meet the demands of an emergency, such as a fire. However, with an eco nomical use of the water by all, it is expected there will be enough to meet the ordinary demands of house hold use and for culinary purposes. but certainly none for irrigation and lawn sprinkling purposes in this time of threatened shortage. ' At a meeting held seme time ago, the village council decided every ef fort should be put forth to conserve the water supply and issued a request that all consumers use only such amounts as necessary. Still some per sited in the watering of lawns and flowers. So the council has passed a resolution to the effect that during the present emergency no water be wasted or consumed for other than household purposes. Numerous people, including mem bers of the town board, have hauled water in milk cans for watering their flowers and shrubs, but a few others simply wculd not desist from using the water to sprinkle their dawns and flower gardens and so the officials have been forced to take action and shut off the water of such indifferent users: Everything is going along in fine shape now, and a goodly surplus is being maintained in the supply tank for emergency.
