PLATTSMOUTH SEMI - WEEKLY JOURNAL PAGE FIVE r Graduates Who Have Gone Forth from High School List cl Graduates of Plattsmouth High Scliool from. 1882 Includ ing 1934, Totals 1,499. One of the most interesting and historical collection of names as far as Plattsmouth is concerned is that of the list of Plattsmouth high school graduates from 1882-1934 compiled In the principal's office three years ago in connection with the publica tion cf a history of this city. The compilation begins with 1S82 as this is the first class to receive diplomas, prior to that only "promotional ex ercises" were held. Residents of Plattsmouth will find a host of retro spective memories in musing upon these names and the associations they have with days gone by. These graduates now total 1,499 thru the record class of 1934. That the residents of the city vLo wish may preserve this important record for their use, th Journal has secured this list which will be pub lished in the paper. Quenches the thirst of the trav eler on his way To his destination in some for eign field, To sow the seeds of fortune which he hopes will yield. The life springs of joy often seem to be dry, Though streams of cold water may be flowing hard by. Like Hagar in the desert is ob livious of a well, With plenty of cold water her thirst to dispel. Hot, still hotter from the sands of the south We are reminded of the Sahara and the blighty drouth. That has swept from the fields a bountiful crop. And no water to drink, though scarcely a drop. O; for a cup of cold water for the birds to drink, The leaves of the trees are be ginning to shrink, The dandelions now have ceased to bloom. Withered and brown they are an object of gloom. The lawns are all bare and the fields are gray, Need sprinkling with dew but needless to say, A draught from a well, a spring or a fount, Would quench the thirst of a man and his mount. That cold spring from the rock at the foot of the hill. Flows into the brook and gives you a thrill. You drink from the chalice and it sparkles bright. As the last drop disappears com pletely out of sight. Forget now -our thirst since the dew drops fall. And scatter their blessings up on one and all. Though the sun spots may send a blighting ray. We know that Divine Mind gov erns throughout the day. J. R. Tremble. ENJOY CAMP DESPITE HEAT Although this has been a summer of extreme hot weather, local Boy Scout3 have been enjoying frequent over-night and two-day trips to the Sccut cabin at Camp Wheeler, where additional conveniences are being provided from time to time. With the pasture entirely dried up. the pleasures of a trek about the ad joining farm land is greatly dimin ished, but the boy3 find recreation in the creek, although It too has suffer ed greatly from the drouth and is the lowest it has ever been. A 'neck-deep' swimming hole has been located near the camp. The low water has made the Scout committee reticent about darning the creek to force water into Its swimming pool in the north bend cf the creek, now eliminated by cut ting the channel straight through, a3 the time required to accumulate a head of water in the swimming hole would leave the creek bed dry further down stream and cause sulTering cf cattle and horse3 in pasture there fcr want of water.
