Ralph Dorr was a visitor in I'latts r.iouth on Monday of last week, be ing a member of the jury in district court there and after the jury bad rendered their verdict were excused until recalled for further jury duty. Virginia Iawton Very Sick Mrs. Virginia Lawton, . who fcr L;ia.y years has made her home 'in Wabash, has been sick at her homo here for some time post and has been cared for by her son, Homer II. Law ton, of Murdoch, who came ever and tared for the mother until the ar rival of a daughter, Mrs. Edith Greene, cf Aurora, who arrived last Tuesday evening to assist in the tare of the mother. Met with Serious Accident Last Sunday evening while Ralph and Lylo Boutcu, accompanied by I. II. Clarke, were driving west on Highway Xo. 1, they passed up the turn and continued on west over the Rock Island tracks. As they were traveling at a good rate of speed and the crossing is considerably higher than the read level, when they came to the tracks the wheels of their car struck the rails with a rebound that caused the car to somersault. The re sult was that the doors were broken off and the occupants spilled cut on the ground, being dazed and bruised from the fall. The car was pretty much ci a wreck, but the occupants are recovering from their experience without serious result. Injured Three Years Ago Three years ago, Lester Roth well v.ts injured and while he has been slow in his recovery, he has ever been optimistic and hopeful cf finally regaining his health and strength., Oa last Wednesday he was able to engage in work for the first time since he was injured and was glad to again be able to earn something, a? he has been cut of commission for a long time. . Little One Dies at Hospital The little ten months old child of Mr. and Mrs. John Coleman, who has been ill from double pneumonia, and who was taken to the hospital in Lin coln, where it might receive the best of care and attention, passed away on last Friday night and the funeral was held cn Sunday, with interment in the Alvo cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Coleman have the sympathy of their host of friends here in the loss of their little one. Loose Gravel Caused Spill ; While Mrs. Herman L. Bornemeier was driving their auto from their home near Alvo to Lincoln, she came to a place where the road had been newly graveled and one wheel of the car caught in a ridge of loose gravel, jerking the steering wheel out of her hand and although she grasped it again very firmly, the was not able tc keep the car from leaving the read. After skidding along in the loose gravel, the car turned ever, but no serious damage was done, Mrs. Borne meier escaping with only minor cuts and bruises. Even the car was not damaged nearly as badly as one might expect. Loose gravel is hard to 'ne gotiate at any time, especially if the car is traveling at any speed, and when one conies upon it suddenly while bowling along at a good rate of speed it is doubly dangerous. DIES AT LOS AiscrElES From Saturday's Daily The message was received here last evening by Mrs. Frances Scot ten of the death cf her only brother, John R. Sexton, which occurred Fri day at Los Angeles as he and Mrs. Sexton were preparing to return to their home at La Junta, Colorado, after the winter .spent in California. The deceased was far a number of years a resident of ITattsmouth where he was engaged in the Bur lington shops and later removed to the west where he was for many years connected with the Santa Fe, being one of the leading officials cf the Colorado division. lie was retired from active service a number cf years ago and had since made his home at LaJunta where he v. as one of the most active civic lead1 rs. The body is being brought to Lincoln where the family resided for s:ome time after leaving Plattsmouth and whore the funeral services will held. FILES FOE STJEVEY0P. County Surveyor Robert D. Fitch, Wednesday filed for re-election to the office that he has held for the pa:;t two years and will be a candidate for the democratic nomination at the primary election in August. Mr. Fitch was elected in November 1932, to fill the vacancy occasioned by the death of Fred Patterson, and has proved very efficient in the office to which he was called.
